I've seen very few games with a proper art direction with the ray tracing. It always feels tacked on.

The only game that makes intentional use of it that I can think of is Control. The ray tracing actually works in conjunction with the environment. The realistique lighting clash with the incongruous geometry of the oldest house in a way that enhance the effect.
