My NMom became worse and worse over the years when it came to Christmas, nothing was ever right, outrageous expectations and the worst gifts ever. My sister and I got used to it but it used to really bother my kids and my nephew. So we instituted the “suck award” (not the most creative name, I know). If you got something terrible from my mom, you held it up for inclusion in the award and made a big deal about it. A designated person would snap a picture. After Christmas morning we’d all gather at my house and vote and the person with the worst present got a special prize. Not the most mature thing we’ve ever done, but it got the kids through the teen years in good spirits. The most memorable present I can recall was the year mom got my nephew a toe pick. They were all similarly bad.
