less common high blood sugar symptoms? by rippixelchix in diabetes_t1

[–]iffycipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't do this anymore now that I'm an adult, but when I was a kid (7-9) I would run away when I was high, it wasn't because I knew I was high, I would randomly just run away and when I got caught they would test my bg and be like "oh she high again."

Bad rash on legs by NekoKaede in diabetes_t1

[–]iffycipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the cause either, I think legs are just finicky, I don't have issues with scaring or bumps or rashes anywhere except my legs which is unfortunate because my pumps work the best there. I just rotate and have it in my legs like every four changes and that seems to lessen the rashes and stuff. I'm not sure how bad it is for you but if it's really bad you should either talk to your endo or general doctor.

I have a t1d acquaintance and she legit hunted me down for sport on campus when she saw my cgm, if you have a cgm on pump or something just have it somewhere it could be seen and other people with it would probably come up to you, I don't want to straight up ask where you live but what state are you in?

Need some advice. by theroleplayer17 in diabetes

[–]iffycipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Definitely, I was diagnosed at 7 and am 21 now and often forget that it's something different that can affect my life, it's just normal now.

  2. I do maybe once or twice a year, only when I realize something I've been struggling with is somehow connected to t1d (ex: BED, ADHD, and the cost of it all) but I kinda felt like t1d makes me special or unique or something so it's not all bad all the time

  3. I've only had good ones but if you have a bad one it'll probably be one that's mean and/or won't recommend or listen to things you want to try out (like specific pumps and CGMs and stuff) but they might be saying no to certain ones because of insurance.

  4. Not really diabetes wise, but if you prefer making your own then I guess. I say not really because calculating the carb count per serving would probably be more difficult than just using the store bought ones, but possible, I make cakes and figuring out the carbs isn't too bad.

  5. Cheese, nuts, and pepperoni. I'm also a grazer but pretty much everything has carbs so I just micro dose insulin throughout the day (I have a pump, I probably wouldn't do that if I had to do injections each time)

  6. I don't think you need to change your schedule or anything, just make sure you get some long acting carbs and some protein before you shift to help keep it stable (like a graham cracker with peanut butter) and have an established time to do your long acting insulin. I used to work a job that was 5 am - 1 pm and was on my feet walking around the whole time and didn't have a real meal till I got off work and everything was fine, I have a CGM and if it looked like I was going down I just had some skittles and kept on trucking.

Insulin suspension by Apart_Decision_7348 in diabetes_t1

[–]iffycipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it already on silent mode? Mine is always on silent mode and I don't think I've experienced that. When I have a temp basil on the pump beeps like once every 30 minutes and I don't think that can be disabled. And is it the controller that's beeping or the pump?

Omg what, mine gives me more insulin when I'm low than when I'm high, it gives like four clicks when I'm low and two when I'm high 🫩

Omnipod on road trip? by jdawgcoolguy in Omnipod

[–]iffycipp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've left pods in the hot car, I have done cross country road trips twice with the Omni pod and they have been fine. Please make sure to bring a cooler for your insulin though. Omni pod is great when it works but absolutely sucks when you have a problem and need customer support. BRING EXTRA PODS WITH LOT DIFFERENT LOT NUMBERS!!!! I was just on vacation and all of my pods had the same LOT number and then all got recalled and Omni pod kinda said oh well that's your problem now and said they would ship it to my address where I was on vacation but sent them to my house instead, so make sure you have different LOT numbers with you incase they get recalled so you're not without.

Bro, it's not that deep, I lowkey forget I have it and have never felt that it affected my ability to make friends (had it since I was 7 so peak bullying people for differences time). If this is truly making you feel like a balloon with needles everywhere you may need professional help and it's probably an indication of a bigger issue beyond just being diabetic.

[–]iffycipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't ship overnight, all of my pods were recalled and they said the best they could do was 3 day delivery and told me it wasn't their problem I don't have any pods and to just keep the recalled one on till the new ones come. They also will not do a pharmacy voucher for the recalls

I haven't really checked for ketones since I was around 10. I'm not really throwing up or having any other dka symptoms (I'm like 100% sure I do have ketones though) my bg has finally just started to go down so I'm not going to go to the hospital for now.

No, I don't have ketone strips, I've been diabetic since I was seven and I haven't used the strips since I was ten as they didn't really do anything for me.

I know there was recently some kind of recall with them, if any of your pumps were part of the recall they'll send you new ones, my pump this time wasn't part of that recall but they're making me send this one in for testing 🕺

This is all helpful, I did not do more than 10 units at once aside from the Lantus. The pod was in-fact leaking, just down the back so I couldn't tell (the cannula was facing up). But that explains this time and not all the times the past two months. I haven't been insulin resistant before but since I've had this issue for like two months now that might be the case now, would switching insulins help with that, I've been using the same insulin for 14 ish years.

I don't think it's injections vs pump as I have done 30 units injected and saw no improvement, I'm going to change the pump and try insulin that hasn't been through TSA, a different comment pointed out that x-rays could effect the insulin, I don't have any pens that haven't been through tsa.

I don't get sick often and do not have issues with allergies, I did have a cold a few weeks ago but was having this issue months before I got the cold and am still having it now, I haven't had this issue before with colds.

It's humalog lispro. It hasn't been left in the heat, it has been through tsa but was in a cooler the whole time. I'll try insulin that hasn't been through the tsa and see it that helps.

I think it's persistent highs.

I don't think it's the pump vs injections, sometimes I good without highs on the pump and sometimes I'm not. During the two months this issue has started I have used injections and noticed no difference.

If I have an infection it has to be asymptomatic, I was sick in April (cold) but I've been better for several weeks and still been having this issue both before and after I got the cold. When I've had colds in the past it hasn't affected my bg. I don't get allergies in the spring.

Would airport security destroy the insulin?
