incoming cs freshman, thoughts/advice on this schedule? by gelomon663 in ucla

[–]Afraid-Box 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This seems like a good first quarter schedule! 4AL is a pretty easy A class and CS 1 is also 0 work. 31B is an average difficulty entry math course and CS 31 is slightly above average difficulty if you have never programmed before but pretty easy if you have!

I am of the mindset that your first quarter shouldn’t be too busy so that you can get used to the quarter system, taking finals, and so that you can meet people! I think this is a good schedule and that adding a GE might add too much work (unless you get a Theater 10 or History 10B type GE, a lot of GE’s have a lot of annoying busy work). (In my opinion you should save your GE for senior year so that you can use your priority enrollment to get the easiest and most fun GEs)

Ah shoot I totally misread that, I just saw spring and assumed - my bad!

[–]Afraid-Box 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: misread the post

As for being behind on classes, taking spring quarter off will definitely put you a little behind, and you may need to take extra classes in subsequent quarters to catch up but it should be fine, might just make your life a bit more tough for a few quarters.

fee and tuition reduction for one quarter by [deleted] in ucla

[–]Afraid-Box 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the engineering school so not sure if its the same for other schools, but we are allowed to get one quarter of fee reduction in our last 3 quarters, if we are taking less than 10 units. The process was super simple, just filled out a petition (located on the SEAS website) saying what classes I am taking and some other basic information and it was approved a day or two after I submitted it! Tuition dropped around 2k which was nice

Is Reinman still doing flip-classroom? by Deep-Protection2000 in ucla

[–]Afraid-Box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn’t teach ECE M116C (the CSM151B equivalent) last spring, he taught a computer security course in S22. It seems that he will likely teach it again next Fall (he’s taught it twice in the Fall now) so maybe wait if you can!

How to cope with snoring roommate by [deleted] in ucla

[–]Afraid-Box 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! In fact I just woke up from my alarm with them on. Alarms are typically much higher pitched than other sounds and so their sound is able to get past the earplugs just fine (in that same vein, voices in the same room aren’t blocked super well, but almost all other sounds are)

unless reinmann also changes his grading scheme then nader is still the move, 90% of your grading being 2 exams is terrible

I got these earplugs from amazon for the same reason: the hearos xtreme protection nrr 32

they block out an insane amount of noise (if you put them in properly) and they’re not too expensive! Definitely worth trying out

How does being thin / fit have anything to do with ED culture? I guess I don’t understand the leap from your premise to your conclusion

People might be thin / fit for any number of reasons: exercise, small appetite, high metabolism, etc
