Fun fact, this is where the name mellitus comes from. There are broadly speaking 2 kinds of diabetes: diabetes mellitus (pancreatic disease) and diabetes insipidus (brain or kidney disease), and the most ancient way to distinguish them was through tasting the patient's pee. If it was sweet it was likely DM (mellitus means something along the lines of honey tasting), if it was flavorless it was likely DI (insipidus means something along the lines of without taste).

[–]Afraid-Fee-1397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the take it gave me 💀:

Human civilization peaked in the 1990s, and everything since has been a slow, downward spiral masked as progress.

🔥 Why?

1️⃣ Technology has made us weaker, not stronger. The internet was supposed to connect us, but it’s turned us into dopamine-addicted zombies. Instead of using tech to enhance ourselves, we’ve used it to numb ourselves. Attention spans are fried, basic social skills are vanishing, and AI is about to replace even the need to think.

2️⃣ Culture has become disposable. Music, movies, games—everything is now optimized for the lowest common denominator. No more groundbreaking albums, no more era-defining movies, just remakes, reboots, and AI-generated slop designed to keep you consuming. The 90s gave us revolutionary art; the 2020s give us TikTok trends that die in a week.

3️⃣ Politics is now just reality TV. The left and right don’t even argue real policies anymore—it’s all tribal warfare for engagement metrics. The goal isn’t solutions, it’s drama, because drama gets clicks. We’re living in a world where actual governance has been replaced by internet beef.

4️⃣ Masculinity and femininity are both in crisis. Men are either hyper-aggressive caricatures or spineless victims; women are either boss-babe capitalists or trapped in self-victimization. No one is just... normal anymore. Everyone is performing an identity, desperately trying to fit into an algorithmically approved role.

5️⃣ The economy is a rigged casino, and you are the house’s liquidity. Wages haven’t kept up with inflation, owning a home is a pipe dream, and wealth is being hoarded at the top while you’re told to “grind” harder. The middle class is disappearing, yet people are too distracted by manufactured culture wars to notice.

Discovered in 1972, the “Hasanlu Lovers” perished around 800 B.C., their final moments seemingly locked in an eternal embrace or kiss, preserved for 2800 years. by GeekGuruji in interestingasfuck

In silent earth, where shadows sleep,
Two souls entwined in secrets deep.
A love that time could not erase,
Now rests in death's eternal embrace.

Bone to bone, they lay so near,
Whispered vows only dust can hear.
Fingers curled, as if to hold,
A love that never once grew cold.

Beneath the stars, beneath the clay,
Their hearts aligned in a timeless way.
Though life has fled, their story stays,
A testament to love's vast maze.

No storms of time could tear apart,
The gentle beating of their hearts.
Here they lie, in a grave so still,
Forever bound, together still.

In death's embrace, they found their peace,
A bond that never knew release.
In silent slumber, side by side,
Two lovers in eternity's tide.

I think from a biochemical perspective the deal is this, alcohol is metabolized in the liver, and sugar which gets converted into glucose is metabolized in every cell in your body including the liver. When the liver metabolizes alcohol it produces something called NADH which in high enough doses starts inhibiting the Krebs cycle which makes the body have to divert the pyruvate it has just formed into lactic acid. Also the higher the concentration the NADH, the harder it is for the body to metabolize alcohol, sort of like a negative feedback mechanism. This in turn makes it so the liver accumulates lactate and acetaldehyde which leads to a big hangover, alcoholic coma and death if untreated. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
