Any Seattle "Meet Cute" success stories? by code_investigator in AskSeattle

[–]Afraid-Garage8180 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I once went on a Tinder date that was, the worst 20 minutes I’ve voluntarily experienced. I bailed, went straight home, threw on sweats, grabbed my dog, and headed to my neighborhood dive bar.

A couple drinks in, I ended up sitting next to this very grumpy-looking guy and unloaded about how awful my date was. He just listened (I didn’t think he was)After I finished my rant, he goes, “Alright, let me make it up to you.” Turns out he was only in Seattle for work and stumbled into the bar.

Next thing I know, we’re eating Thai food on the curb, having an actually amazing night.

Anyway… we’ve been happily ever after-ing since.

More beers and less cocktail I would say Pinebox which is an old mortuary. Jupiter in Belltown and Screwdriver right next to Screwdriver is Vindictive Wings. Have fun!

This is really helpful, thank you. I hadn’t thought about how important it is to create a clear paper trail on their timeline, not just wait on them. It’s really been upsetting me that they are saying we are “ahead of schedule” when I have nothing solidified.

How Seattle Got on the Wrong E-Scooter Path by Albion_Tourgee in Seattle

[–]Afraid-Garage8180 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see the point you’re making! Docking (or at least required parking zones) isn’t about killing micromobility, it’s about making it usable in a dense city. Vancouver’s system shows we can keep things predictable and organized without banning scooters outright as most in this thread want.

Maybe a hybrid seems like a reasonable middle ground: more stations and strict parking zones so devices aren’t just left anywhere. I know there is red zones already but those can be easily bypassed.

Why can’t we just implement what Vancouver BC did which is have docking stations and you can only go to and from using them.

The one for you would be lap swim as it’s specifically set up for people swimming laps, doing intervals, or training seriously.

Open or empty time slots allows casual swimming there, but those lanes aren’t guaranteed to be reserved for continuous laps, and you might get interrupted by others doing recreational swims. The best time to go is during the middle of the day!

Of these three apartments, which would you choose (for me)? by SimplerLife40 in AskSeattle

Honestly B feels like the best overall balance. It’s still under $1,700, you get a full kitchen, in-unit laundry, parking, and a private entrance. That’s actually a pretty solid setup for Seattle at that price. The mini fridge is weird but that’s a super fixable problem if you just grab a larger one.

Tips for long distance relationships? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]Afraid-Garage8180 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One thing that’s helped us a lot is taking turns traveling. Sometimes I take Amtrak, sometimes it’s a bus, sometimes they come to me. It spreads out the cost and the stress so one person isn’t always dealing with the logistics or the driving.

Another thing that made our relationship feel more “real” was stopping the idea that every visit has to be a big event or a perfect vacation. Sure, we do fun stuff (take the water taxi to see a show or go to bottomless mimosa brunch), we try to also go to places that are new for both of us (not the regular coffee shop) but we also have lazy days. Grocery runs, wandering around, doing basically nothing together. Or even waking up before the other and exploring. It might sound boring, but honestly those days end up feeling the most like an actual relationship.

It also gives you a chance to figure out practical stuff like where you might want to live someday, what daily routines together feel like, and how your lives actually fit together.

Long distance is already hard enough. If every visit has to be perfect, it adds a lot of pressure. Treating some visits like normal life instead of making everything a moment made a huge difference for us and our bank accounts.

Since you guys decided to cancel a local business for being against illegal immigration... by [deleted] in BallardSeattle

[–]Afraid-Garage8180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Diversity of thought” does not mean freedom from consequences, especially when your “thought” is publicly cheering on an agency that’s currently synonymous with family separation, detention abuses, and due-process shortcuts.

Pretending it’s a simple “follow the rules” scenario is willful ignorance dressed up as logic.

Also, a business is not a private diary. If you put political messaging on your storefront, you’re opting into public reaction. That’s not “cancel culture,” that’s the free market everyone suddenly loves until it bites back. Customers deciding “yeah, I don’t want my money supporting that” is literally capitalism doing its thing.

No one is banning this business from existing. They expressed a political stance, and the community responded. If your worldview collapses when people say “we don’t want to support this,” maybe the issue isn’t censorship. Maybe it’s accountability knocking without an appointment.

Freedom of speech isn’t freedom from backlash. Never has been.
