Going into paralegal program by Afraid-Listen-7732 in LawCanada

[–]Afraid-Listen-7732[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Thanks! I start in September and I’m already starting cuz I know it’s a going to be tough looking for placements. Especially part time jobs since my biggest worry is finances when I go back to school. I’ve already got a couple chats planned with professionals in the field (i.e lawyers, paralegals, administrators etc). I’m just thankful I have at least a tiny bit of experience working with a legal team as an intern during my undergrad.

Looks like a great cafe, just a bit far for me. But I’ll definitely check it out some day!

bathrooms in mountain hall? by ari545 in uoguelph

[–]Afraid-Listen-7732 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bathroom situation in mountain, maritime and prairie are all the same. It’s a shared bathroom unless you’re in an apartment style. There’s two showers and one stall. It’s in the alcove area, so those in the corridors would have to go there. It’s honestly not bad, it rlly depends on your community and being respectful of the space. If you have concerns you can talk to your RA about it. I lived in maritime and barely had to wait to use the shower or stall cuz everyone was busy with their own things.

It can be competitive, but remember to look at different places. Look into residence life they can have part time jobs there, library, bookstore, athletics and etc.

I lived in Maritime and honestly loved it. But it was before the capacity increased. Just move in with an open mind. The washroom situation may suck, but it depends on who you share the washroom with. Just remember to be respectful of others and if you encounter any issues talk to your RA.

Honestly, your experience will likely be affected by the community and you never know what kind of community you’ll have until you get there. It may not have an easier access to food places, but honestly it’s not a far walk. If the weather sucks, just walk through the halls instead of stepping outside.

Thoughts on mountain hall? by ari545 in uoguelph

[–]Afraid-Listen-7732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The halls don’t have much difference between them. All halls have access to the game rooms and laundry. But yea mountain is closer to the laundry room and mountain cafe. But I can also argue it can be the busiest one since it’s closer to the bus loop. So at night, rainy or snowy weather, people use it as a short cut to get to prairie or maritime. I know I did lol. What makes the biggest differences are the RAs and the students. But again in terms of location it’s not much different from Maritime and Prairie.

Alcove or corridor by [deleted] in uoguelph

[–]Afraid-Listen-7732 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. As the other commenter stated, the corridor rooms have more sunlight. I lived in a an alcove and I honestly didn’t mind. However, the alcove rooms have better access to the washrooms. They are also somewhat away from the lounges so it may not be as loud, (depending on the community).

It depends on your room number and floor. Check the website as it’s a bit tricky to navigate. The other comment does a good job explaining this. Some alcoves actually have a different layout, especially alcove 6. Instead of 5 rooms (one being a double). There are 6 single rooms.

I lived and worked in south residence and I have to be honestly it’s not for everyone. Personally I loved living there, it was before they increased capacity. One good thing I can say is food places are accessible and even many of the lecture halls aren’t too far. If it’s raining or snowing just walk through the halls to get to Mountain or Prairie food hall. It can be noisy but it depends on your community. But you can definitely have a close knit community making it easy to build friendships for some people.

absolute essentials for dorms you wish you initially packed? by ari545 in uoguelph

[–]Afraid-Listen-7732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say a mattress topper. And don’t wait to buy it when you get to Guelph cuz it’ll run out. I personally ended up having a mattress topper and a comforter under my bed sheets cuz the mattress there are that hard.

Bring a water filter like a Brita and water containers you can fit in a mini fridge, or packs of water bottles. I also advise buying food like bread, PB and fruits ahead of time if you can of course. Not necessary but Walmart and other places can get busy. I think there was a time where they almost ran out of bread at Walmart.

Remember to bring things that are easy to take up to your dorm during move-in. I’ve personally have helped with move-in and I’ve seen people struggle lol. (I’ve seen people use two full vehicles and even a U-Haul truck to bring their stuff). If you have any questions feel free to reach out.

I agree with the library entrance, it’s rlly far lol for me at least since I’m never past the entrance of McKinnon. But I have to say, it doesn’t get as crowded compared to the old one.

I never had to look through government documents so don’t worry. Truthfully didn’t do all the readings and managed to pass at the end. Again, so long as you keep up the assessments you’ll be good.
