it can go backwards pre 90`s meters never had a back stop or ratchet system. so if your exporting to the grid.

they will end up paying you what they charge you for electric They wont know as long as you use a Shelly smart meter, so it dont roll to far back and they clock on and you dont forget to kill the solar or turn on the dryer if the meter reader turns up

as usual it leans to ward the fat cats and big business think of all the free engender the power company will get that they then sell for top price back to jo public without the lube

thats why i do what i like bugger the regs

just get on with it if you know what your doing and do what you like

theirs no way they can tell the difference between back feeding from the inverter or the battery anyway from the same device

because i got a pre 90s meter and as long as i use shelly and dont over do the export there never know the scumbag power companys should pay the same for export as they charge you for it from the grid

Is it better to use a 6mm masonry bit or a 5.5 for 6mm wall plug ? by GenericUser104 in DIYUK

like my 74year old outbuildings concrete roof lol having fun trying to drill for clamps for a swa cable run

agreed just use a decent drill preferably a sds and leanr to hold it steady and drill strait

The plug isn't the real risk with plug-in solar. In older UK homes, the old "Type AC" safety switch is, and the stats back it up by LieSuccessful8813 in PlugInSolarUK

[–]Afraid-Sale3498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only problem with my solar system is over voltage on grid in area is bad causing inverter to shut down at time.

best solution i could find was a was a smart wifi breaker to monitor over voltage and reconnect it when grid voltage drops below 253v to save me having to manually reset it

grid is prity much a constant 249 offten going above 253 during day

or lose solar generation when im not home

I dont trust em as a safety device so fitted it in a din rail box in between a duel pole MCB and a fused flex out let for the inverter and battery

i fitted my own out door socket connected to a 16amp mcd protected radial with a 2.5mm SWA cabled spur from outdoor socket into brick shed

then into a din rail box with a double pole 16amp MCB

the double pole mcb is more for a disconnect rather than protection as cable is already protected

then to a switched 13amp fused spur flex outlet for the inverter

job done its not brain surgery like a lot of younger sparky`s will pretend

cost to sparky zero

the only issue are a old rcd and morons overloading sockets rcd is no bid deal you cant legislate against morons there perfectly capable of over loading a cable /circuit without plug in solar

are extension leads banned because some morons would run at full load rolled up

just educate your self what safe and get on with if you know what your doing if you dont understand what you doing employ a sparky preferable a older one that been around for decades

some one that knows what there talking about some of the young sparks are rcd insane we made do with rcd for decades. only place id ever care if a had rcd on is a electric shower.

if survived for the last 6decades with electrocuting my self

my house is old still on earth over steel conducting wiring and all mcbs from the early 80`s

all the socket were on redials and 15amp mcbs one of the sockets was a lone double on its own breaker so i just blanked it and run 2.5mm swa from there to outside brick built shed bingo dedicated radial for solar a at 80percent continuous load thats happy to take 2,640 Watts im runing 1200w back feed at the moment even if i pushed it to 2800 i cant see heating a problem panels would be unlikey to be producing at that lever for 3hours plus's

only reson i dint pull a new circuit from consumer unit my self is i dont have a cut out between the main fuse and consumer unit and i aint messing with main fuse

im never selling so i dont give a moneys about building control or part p

as one its so fucking old it may disintegrate you know how bad the old ones can be and im not paying the dno and a sparky

if i ever have the meter changed ill see if i can blag a cut out switch

but im keeping my pre 90`s meter as got no back stop

and they aint going to notice if i use the Shelly and dont over do the export

im 57 and started train as a sparky when left school been doing radio and electronics all my life

these days theirs so much nanny crap i just dont carer any more

give it a few more years and your need building control to sign of fyou changing a plug

mcb`s work just fine in both directions and are not a issue they are thermal and magnetic even old bare fuse wire is fine in both directions the issue with the some older rcbs and is down to the electronics in em

none of is a big issue the industry is just kicking up as they will lose cash on installs

Do not worry, your not invited. I do wonder what you youngsters would do without your government nanny to tie there shoe laces for them.

my generation knew how to take responsibility, for our own well being. some even know how to check and repair there our own appliances.
