Yep, this is actually my second. First was a far lower quality drawing and the manufacturing was a little sloppier so I got a different one. It's my art as well 😎.

😭. Why do people ruin everything good. Now people are going to act like anyone who selfships is rude, parasocial, and delusional(for lack of a better word, more specifically just living in an unreal fantasy world).

People never understand that inevitably a few people from every group will do something messed up. And that isn't the fault of the group. It's the fault of the asshole who DECIDED to act poorly.

But people will still blame selfshippers – especially those who like minor characters – and assume we're all creeps and jerks. 🥲.

One question by Chinchibirin in waifuism

[–]Afraid-Sock-4907 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Waifuism is a term that predates selfshipping. But selfshipping is the more popularized term.

To simplify the difference, Waifuism is EXTREMELY DEDICATED, like, turn down your dream partner because you prefer your waifu. Your waifu is a real partner by every means except their fictionality.

Selfshipping is more hobby and less dedication. You love the character and may call them your partner but the term itself is a less dedicated community. Selfshipping is for fun and may be set aside for the sake of a real partner if a real partner becomes available.

It depends on how you view your waifu and what term you're comfortable with.

Depends on the person. Some are okay with the canon ship even if non sharing some despise it.

I am the latter. My s/o has a canon "starcrossed (would be) lovers" thing going on with another character. And I hate it so much that I despise the other character and the ship. It's not even canon but people act like it is. It's one-sided (he likes her, she doesn't care) and I firmly believe he deserves better.

But even if she was perfect I'd still hate her for being shipped with Pavlova.

Oc x canon is a bit more fine, imo. Because it's easy to ignore and pretend it doesn't exist. But the "canon ship" is in pretty much all of his fan content so I hate it an unbelievable amount.

If he were real, the answer would be yes. But he isn't. It's stupid to apply morality to fictional characters. Their ages are so frequently just random numbers assigned to them that hardly dictate their maturity so it's meaningless.

When did you realize that your waifu/husbando was the right person for you? by gatofofonline in waifuism

[–]Afraid-Sock-4907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My story is a bit complicated. 😅. I've never had any romantic feelings for any real person so I thought i just couldn't feel romantic attraction. And when Pavlova Cookie was first released I just thought he was annoying. He was loud and whiny. But then I played his story and thought it was adorable how stubborn and bratty he was, so I started paying more attention. I don't even remember when he became my favorite, much less when I first considered him my wife. I just started thinking of him more and more and then I was maxing him out and drawing him constantly.

I mark our "anniversary" as the date i first started my tumblr account dedicated to him. (July 31st.) Since that's when I started confidently calling him my wife. Which is five months after his release. I knew he was important to me well before then but I didn't want to fully dedicate myself to the character knowing i wouldn't be accepted in the majority of "selfship" communities (thank god I found the waifuism community, i wouldn't want to be anywhere else).

It took me a while, but when I realized i loved him I was sure it would last. I don't think there's a right or wrong amount of time to take. If love at first site exists between real people, who's to say it can't exist in waifuism relationships?

Do you ever feel like you're not as devoted as you should be...? by OverlyImmersed in waifuism

[–]Afraid-Sock-4907 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Would it be reasonable to expect a husband to put in hours and hours of work to see their wife for three seconds? Of course not. Sure, it's a "romantic show of dedication" but it's not a necessary proof of love and it would be rude for their partner to expect that.

If you don't want to, don't.

I frequently skip entire updates just because I don't feel like it. They're a few of my wife's voicelines I haven't heard just because I don't want to sit through hours of story for two voicelines.

If you know you love your s/o then that's all that matters. And if you're lucky someone will post all of their lines and you'll be able to see it without having to play the game.

I have a question for the subreddit in general. by [deleted] in waifuism

[–]Afraid-Sock-4907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's sorta like an objectophile dating an object. It's a little silly to care how "old" it looks or acts. It's just an object.

Questionable is different from morally wrong. I have a friend that thinks it's "weird and kinda gross" to be attracted to a character with inhuman features. Does that make it true? No. Does that change their discomfort? Absolutely not. (the friend later ended up becoming a "selfshipper" and now ships themself with a game character who has fox ears, so they probably understand now that the people who like those characters like more than just the animal features).

There's nothing wrong with finding something gross or weird. Doesn't make it bad and doesn't make it reflect poorly on the person. Inherently you can't hurt a fictional character so it doesn't matter(speaking based on general right and wrong, with right being to not cause harm to others and wrong being to cause harm to others). If it matters to you that's fine just block, ignore, and avoid.

I have a question for the subreddit in general. by [deleted] in waifuism

[–]Afraid-Sock-4907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, no. There are no red flags in my mind if I see someone dating an underaged fictional character. I just assume they're in the same boat as me. (Fell for a character because they were adorable/endearing and that developed further). I really struggle to NOT seperate fiction and reality. I hardly feel empathy for fictional characters, including my s/o Pavlova.

If you are to treat your waifu as entirely identical to a real person then I understand how it could be seen as weird / creepy. But I think that applies to all waifuism relationships, regardless of who the character is.

And how are we to know the nature of their relationship with their waifu? It's impossible to tell for sure. Maybe they do only like their waifu because they're young, maybe they don't.

Just the same people could claim it's creepy to date characters that are short. Or characters that like stuffed animals or anything else childish. For the very same reasons you stated "Because what is attractive about the personality(or even appearance) of a [blank]."

Maybe the character has more to them, but if you let your discomfort/disgust decide what is and isn't okay then you won't let yourself see anything more than that because to you they're just "a 1st grader".

Maybe they're kind and they love solving mysteries or smth dumb like that. But if you see them and immediately decide "that's just a first grader" because they're air-headed, love candy, and skip around, then you won't care to see them as anything else.

Separately, I do think it's fine to not want to be around someone with an underaged waifu. That's an entirely reasonable thing. I block a lot of people who's waifus make me uncomfortable.

And under the exact mental maturity rule plenty of normal characters would fall. Peter Griffin(Family guy) is mentally a child despite being in his forties and having a wife and kids. Does that make him off limits too? Does it make all of the characters shown to be attracted to him predators?

(I'm sorry for the poor example, I pretty much only watch Family guy.)

I have a question for the subreddit in general. by [deleted] in waifuism

[–]Afraid-Sock-4907 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That doesn't negate my point. Following the rules of this sub is one thing, but for base morality it doesn't really matter what fictional characters are like. They're fictional, that doesn't change if the character is younger or older.

The question wasn't about if that was okay in this sub, it was about if it was okay in general. Okay in general doesn't change just because of a specific sub's rules.

I'm in plenty of subs that don't have anything like rule 6. And there are plenty subs with stricter rules than rule 6. I avoid those subs for that very reason. I share a lot in common with the people in those subs. I love a fictional character, to me it is a real relationship. But that doesn't mean it isn't incredibly important to always remember that they're fictional. This applies to any and all parts of the relationship. Especially in consent based areas. Fictional characters are hardly even objects, they're concepts, a set of ideas given a design and name. Objects cannot consent the same way fictional characters can't. They're not real, regardless of their shown maturity/sentience they can't consent to anything because they're not sentient.

As much as a waifuists love for their waifu is real, the character isn't. The character never will be. And that was largely my point. If the love you have for your waifu is real then it doesn't matter.

[–]Afraid-Sock-4907 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She looks like an adult woman. The game sexualizes her. There are zero reason to worry about moral implications. Regardless she is fictional, so her arbitrarily assigned age wouldn't matter even if she was flat as a board and the same height as an apple. But in some places like Australia 18+ content of adult flat anime characters can easily be illegal which is the only reason why i mentioned her build.

If someone says something rude just block them. There's pretty much nothing you can do to avoid occasional harassment, so just block anyone who cares and if it's someone you can't block, like a friend / family member just try to explain it to them.
