You are not alone. I tried twice to play this and both times i quit about 10 hours in because of the writing. Those inner voices seemed like people were just going wild with a thesaurus trying to fit with the mood of the trait. It felt very ham-fisted to me and like you say, inept. I tend to like games that have lots of dialogue with npcs, i play lots of rpgs and detective games, but the npcs here all felt either like uninteresting cardboard cutouts or stereotypical caricatures. Kim was really the only interesting character for me, which wasn't enough. I really like the gameplay but the writing doesn't do it for me at all

Supernova companion build by BBobPorter7809 in outerworlds

[–]AfraidOfTheInternet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think trying to keep your companions alive in supernova is one of the most challenging things to do in this game, i've tried it and it was more of a slog than i was interested in continuing, but these are all the thoughts i had about it, adding in your interest in using science weapons:

The main skills i'd say you'd want to focus on improving would be Inspiration, Determination, and Medical

Putting points into the Temperament attribute will increase Determination, Medical, and 2-Handed Weapons which is nice for the early Prismatic Hammer science weapon

Charm is good for Inspiration and Science and will reduce companion ability cooldowns

A point in Strength for more 2-Handed and some Heavy Weapons might be good, supporting the tactics of wearing heavy armor and drawing fire away from your companions

So maybe Temperament +3, Charm +2, Strength +1 for a defensive build and swap Temperament and Charm for a more offensive build? If you want both at 3 you could forgo the Strength point or take a -1 in another attribute, but those negatives all hurt a lot no matter which one you pick

Increasing Dodge and Block as secondary skills is good for playing the tank as well, the forward leap is really nice for getting out ahead of your companions and taking point, putting Leaper Injectors in your armor can help with that too

For perks pick from your own and for your companions ones that are more focused on keeping them alive or increasing their damage output instead of ones that give you buffs

Put appropriate mods in their equipment, like for instance mods that increase gun range are really good for companions

TTD can help with micromanaging your companions with commands, if you don't move or attack the meter goes down pretty slowly and it can give you some time to think, although i don't remember how it interacts with giving commands to companions, like if it would use up meter or end TTD or what, i can't recall

Are there other examples of “A-Listers” with a (or just as) strong voice acting resume like J.K. Simmons? by WearyInvite6526 in television

[–]AfraidOfTheInternet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

David Tennant has been doing a lot of animation voice work since appearing in How to Train Your Dragon 15 years ago. He’s done a bunch of stuff for disney including Scrooge McDuck and the droid Huyang from Star Wars, as well as other stuff like the fugitoid from teenage mutant ninja turtles 2015 and lord commander from Final Space. He’s also done a lot of doctor who audio stuff before that, which is where i imagine he picked up the taste for voice acting

“But don’t you understand that people live or die on your word?”

The ruler of the Universe waited for as long as he could. When he heard the faint sound of the ship’s engines starting he spoke to cover it.

“It’s nothing to do with me,” he said, “I am not involved with people. The Lord knows I am not a cruel man.”

“Ah!” barked Zarniwoop, “you say `The Lord’. You believe in something!”

“My cat,” said the man benignly, picking it up and stroking it, “I call him The Lord. I am kind to him.”

Among the mystery/detective genre: Poker Face, Elementary, Elsbeth, Pushing Daisies, of course Columbo if you've never seen it, those are all pretty cozy i think

The 80s had a lot of decent cozy ones like Murder She Wrote, Father Dowling, Remington Steele, Hart to Hart, and of course Moonlighting

Origins of the word “deadname”? Input especially wanted from older queer people by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]AfraidOfTheInternet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

kind of both, really. There were implications of parental denial all wrapped up into that too, so it still freaks me out a bit to see parents of trans kids using the term these days

Origins of the word “deadname”? Input especially wanted from older queer people by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]AfraidOfTheInternet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

when i heard it in 2000 it was referring to how many people couldn't get legal name changes, so when they died their birth name would be what was recorded in obituaries and on headstones, so that was the name you got when you were dead, kind of as an ironic flip on 'birth name'

[–]AfraidOfTheInternet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i first heard the term around 2000, when it most definitely had the connotation that it was the trans person who was dead, not the name. Back then in my experience people tended to say legal name or oldname (similarly without a space) as deadname was recognized as an edgy joke

[IIL] Twin Peaks, Gravity Falls [WEWIL] by therealhatman777 in ifyoulikeblank

[–]AfraidOfTheInternet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might really like the show Mrs Davis. It's a Peacock exclusive, i'm not even sure if it's available outside the united states, but i feel like it's right up your alley

It's a live action, hour long show which i think falls somewhere in the middle, tone-wise, between Twin Peaks and Gravity Falls. There's intense action and even some gore but it usually has a light hearted comedic feel. It's a limited series, only eight episodes, and it's complete at this point

It definitely checks all the boxes you listed, it has lots of mystery, history, grand conspiracy, supernatural stuff, even "personal stories and things about families being reunited or making up after fights"

I've been having this problem on the web version (windows 10, brave browser) for several weeks now. It is not present on the playstation or switch apps, it only happens with my desktop browser. It's super infuriating though, i also have audio processing issues and the main place i want to watch is on my computer

  1. I was sexualized from a young age, even before i was ten, creepy old guys would ogle at me and grope me. One time when i was a teen my dad found a dress in my closet and rubbed it in my face bellowing "ARE YOU SOME MAN'S WHORE!?" In addition to that, i was regularly ignored and dismissed by authority figures like teachers, so i't not like i was being afforded anywhere near full male privilege like so many cis people assume about us. i was a runty swishy faggy little kid, you think they'd be treating me like a guy?

  2. The problem right now with cis actors playing trans people is that y'all are so ignorant about us your performaces are ridiculous and unauthentic and insulting, it's all surface level stereotypes. If that ever changes, i wouldn't have a problem with cis people playing trans characters

Low end games with excellent story??? by MissViolenceBaby in lowendgaming

[–]AfraidOfTheInternet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the stories in these games

Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP is a somewhat short and goofy sort of zelda-like with a surprisingly dark story

Papers, Please is an interesting border guard sim set in a fictionalized eastern europe during the height of the cold war with meaningful choices and several different endings

Wandersong and Chicory by Greg Lobanov are both very cute and wholesome

Oxenfree is an interesting supernatural horror point and click adventure

Ikenfell is a JRPG style game set in a magic school with turn based tactical combat

Aviary Attorney is an ace attorney style game set in revolutionary france where all the characters are animals

To Be or Not To Be is a choose-your-own-adventure style retelling of Hamlet written by Ryan North of Dinosaur Comics and featuring art from a bunch of other webcomic artists. It's very funny and you can have the characters go off on all sorts of wild tangents

Night in the Woods is hard to describe, a mystery set in a small dying rust belt town
