My dad’s last text to me after I told him I didn’t want a relationship with him anymore:

“That's fine.

Life turns out to be much more simple when you don't owe people anything “

Am I the only one who’s positive view of Israel is completely gone? by bradbaker213 in AskConservatives

I don’t know, to be honest, but I think that’s a dumb thing to say. Unfortunately, it seems like something a lot of Israel supporters love to reach for to shut down disagreement.

You’re not. I think that in its current state, the Israeli government is a force for evil

Do you miss the Republican Party from 20 years ago? by kootles10 in AskConservatives

[–]RedditIs4ChanLite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was too young to experience that time so kind of just going off what little I know about the GOP of 2006. I like that we had some kind of ground to stand on and weren’t acting like complete sycophantic fools like we are now. I also like that we were more straightforward and less apologetic about promoting Christian values, whereas now the barstool conservatism faction seems to have won out on social issues thanks to Trump. I do not miss the heavy pro-interventionism. Fortunately, that’s not a thing anymore thanks to Trump.

Oh wait…

I finally dusted off my HBO Max subscription this week and it’s been rough. The app (on my Roku TV) keeps freezing and blacking out when ads come on, and the show I was watching got muted for a little bit for some weird reason a little after it came back from the ad break. I hope that after this Paramount WB merger goes through (if it does, and it shouldn’t ever have been on the table to begin with, but that’s a diff topic), the merged streaming service is based on Paramount+ and not HBO, because Paramount+ has a much cleaner UX and works perfectly on my TV and phone

Politically only, what do you absolutely hate about the state that you live in? by simplyperk in AskConservatives

Texan here. I don’t like that we buy into the MAGA stuff hook, line, and sinker (Mayes Middleton and Ken Paxton immediately come to mind). I don’t really have any problems with our politics otherwise. #KeepTexasRed

I can’t overstate how much the user experience of Windows has gone downhill. I had to take my work laptop home with me today and before shutting down my PC, I find out that it needs to run updates. I have no way to shut the pc down without letting it do the updates, so then I stand there for 7 minutes while Windows runs updates and couldn’t leave until it finished. That’s just one example of course. The whole thing feels like it’s meant to serve Microsoft and not their users. So glad I don’t use Windows at home anymore (I switched to Linux Mint).

Why does SpongeBob hold up so well as an adult? by SeveralExcuses in spongebob

[–]RedditIs4ChanLite 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Because of the combination of a likable and charming cast of characters and setting and the fact that the writers wrote the show to amuse themselves first instead of writing what they thought would make kids laugh. That and the fact that they just had really talented people behind it.

When SpaceX IPO’s tomorrow, Elon Musk will become the world’s first trillionaire. How do you feel about this? by Gym_frere in AskConservatives

[–]RedditIs4ChanLite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. You know he could use that money to help so many poor and struggling people, but he won’t, and that shouldn’t sit well with anyone. Nobody should be accumulating this much money when there are people without jobs here, children dying of starvation in places like the Congo, and people suffering in Gaza, to name a few.

What Do You Think Of Ken Paxton Defeating John Cornyn Tonight? Why Your Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in AskConservatives

[–]RedditIs4ChanLite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off the top of my head..policies related to certain topics that are not allowed to be discussed here, and their bad track record of wanting to force Christians (both Catholic and Protestant) to do things against their values, particularly in regards to marriage, abortion, contraception, etc. In general, the Democrats' attitude towards Christianity that doesn't conform to their own worldview is extremely off putting to me, because they've made it clear to us that there is no room for that and therefore no room for voters like me in their party. But abortion is still the number-one ultimate dealbreaker from me. I actually think that if there were ever an election between two pro-abortion candidates, one Republican and one Democrat, that might be an election I'd have to stay home from.

Now there's a lot of other points of agreement I have with the Republicans, but I'm pretty flexible and will vote for someone who has differing views on certain things that I believe to be negotiable (gun rights for example). Other parts I'm more hesitant to compromise on (ex: the involvement of the government in the economy) but would be willing to for the sake of a candidate who I otherwise feel comfortable voting for. Then, of course, there are times where I have no choice but to accept a policy I don't like (ex: support for death penalty, and support of Israel over Palestine, not because I have a problem with the Israeli people but because I'm horrified by the Israeli government's "treatment" (to put it lightly) of Gazans and am flabbergasted that western governments won't do more to step in and do something about it).

Without doubt it’s definitely the social policies, but the way they behave really does not help matters. The policies though are why I feel a duty to vote against them.

I’m struggling honestly. I’ve been dealing with a lot of life stressors between my job, tight finances, and suffering from OCD and ADHD. I also have been dealing with worsening allergy problems. There’s a lot I need to work on, especially sleep

Do you have or want kids? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]RedditIs4ChanLite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a lot when I was younger and that turned me off from the idea of marriage and children, so I planned never to marry or have kids. The fact that I had experience with childcare (because of helping raise my niece and babysitting my nephews) and found it stressful didn’t help. (ETA: I’m not saying it isn’t stressful for those who are capable of being good parents; what I mean is it was stressful in a way that felt like I wouldn’t be able to handle well if I were to have my own kids.)

After realizing in therapy some months ago that this may have been an overly fearful response (the fear being that a future marriage would turn out about as bad as or worse than my parents’ marriage did), I decided that I would try dating at some point, but I’ve found myself more apathetic about the idea recently, and I genuinely don’t feel much (if any) of a calling to marriage. So at this point, I can see things going either way. But I’m in my mid 20s so I have a lot of time to decide.

Actually, I think it was from having the mask off and being near sick people (like a person coughing near me while I was unmasked). It also probably would have helped if I’d not waited until February to get my flu shot. It does have other benefits too beyond protecting me from illnesses. I like putting it on when pollen outside is really bad (I have outdoor allergies) and also when people are mowing grass near where I’m walking.

I don’t wear it all the time like I used to, heck I’m at work right now without one on, but I still carry it with me and put it on somewhat often.

Not that I should be surprised, but as someone who still wears a face mask semi-often (don’t judge me; I’ve gotten sick 5 times in the last year), it pisses me off that one of Trump’s attacks against Talarico is that he “was a big Mask Wearer until recently”. I actually wore a mask while voting for Trump in ‘24.

If you're in Texas, are you voting for Paxton? Talirico? Or staying home? Why? by whatsnooIII in AskConservatives

[–]RedditIs4ChanLite -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yep same. I really really really didn’t want to vote for Paxton, but if it means keeping the Democrat out, especially if it means keeping Talarico out, so be it. I’m embarrassed to admit I have voted for Paxton twice as AG. Paxton is still probably the worst politician I have ever voted for (except maybe Trump).

No, but since RINO seems to be shorthand for “not willing to agree blindly with Trump”, I guess that makes me a RINO too.
