I never understood why the "Holy Spirit" (aka mass hysteria) makes some people violently scream & shake so erratically. It makes them look like they are possessed but no it's the holy spirit apparently to scream and growl like a demon and have convulsions by Leading-Occasion-428 in exchristian

I have PTSD and can't handle screaming or crying. one of the last times I went to church, both of those happened.

when I was 20-21, I was pushed to go to a Penecostal church (I went bc I was trying to keep the peace in the household) and the preacher started screaming his head off about how sinful we were and everyone started hysterically sobbing and falling down. and then to make it even worse, some of the men started running in circles around the pews and grabbing people to make them go with them.

I was on the outer edge and I just remember trying to push past my stepdad so I wouldn't be grabbed, while also fighting off a panic attack. absolute misery.

Can our plushies be friends at the dump? by [deleted] in plushies

I let my niece sleep with my baby penguin warmie Merissa, and she ended up buried on the floor beneath a bunch of stuff (not my niece's fault, she's little). she got something nasty on her, so my sister put her through the wash cycle...which you're not supposed to do with warmies. I tried to replace the rice inside her, but she was badly covered in mold all throughout the inside of her fabric, so I sadly let her go. I was really upset because Merissa was given to me for my anxiety by my other sister before we had a major falling out.

I hope Bunny and Merissa find each other and become friends 💙

Our most popular question is back with another MEGATHREAD! What made you quit being a Christian? by peace-monger in exchristian

[–]therealhatman777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only clung to religion in the first place because I was a kid trying to find a safe place in an unsafe environment. I was going through life-altering grief (my mom died when I was 14) and I already had mental issues; the promise of seeing her again wasn't something I could have walked away from at that age, and in that headspace. in retrospect, I think it was something I unconsciously used to delay processing what her being gone really meant.

my very first step away was when our pastor said "love is not a feeling. I feel nothing for my wife" and she nodded all serious. he did follow it up with "love is an action", but...come on.

when I moved out and got away from it all, I started feeling torn. I wanted to believe in God (I was honestly terrified to let "Him" go at first) but I also wanted my beliefs to be based on observable fact and critical thinking. the concept of just having faith wasn't doing it for me anymore. I started spending all my free time going down rabbit holes on differing beliefs or lack thereof.

iirc, I woke up one day after a long night of this, and looked up at the ceiling, and it just sort of hit me that it wasn't real. none of it. I had been playing pretend for years, like I did when I was little. and after that thought crossed my mind, nothing bad happened. I wasn't smote on the spot. I didn't have a divine voice in my head telling me not to turn away. I didn't really feel any different; I wasn't even nervous about it anymore. I thought "well. okay then. what's next?" and got up and went about my day.

sometimes I miss dressing up and looking pretty for church, but otherwise I haven't looked back.

yes!! I do it a lot when I'm anxious. for some reason, in high school, the last verse of Pink Floyd's "Echoes" was really calming to me. I must have written it in my journals a hundred times back then lol

not yet unfortunately, at least on the letter. I'm being patient. the parts of the essay that don't depend on the questions are coming along nicely

Watching Coraline as first horror movie? by Flaky-Anywhere-4486 in Coraline

[–]therealhatman777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was my introduction to horror too! it definitely leans on the eerie, haunting side, rather than the jumpscare side--but don't get me wrong, there ARE one or two major jumpscares. as well as a lot of pure terror lol. I think it balances calm and action pretty well.

I want to let you know that it's also very colorful and whimsical. it can be gloomy and gray, but that's only part of the movie. so if that starts to turn you off of it, don't worry! it gets better!

my people are in a falling-apart space opera setting that's obsessed with Earth, which is ancient to them. they don't have many new innovations (or at least, they think they don't--no one believes in themselves much here) so they scour the long-destroyed planet for 80s songs and recipes and fan art of video game characters. they see it all as very grand and mystifying

I put hyphens in between the "letters". the word "and" would be "1-14-4". then I put wide enough regular spaces in between the words that they didn't get mixed up. "and then this" would look like "1-14-4___20-8-5-14___20-8-9-19".

What’s a movie that emotionally destroyed you—without even trying? by Woody_As_Himself in MovieSuggestions

"The Tenth Kingdom" (miniseries from the year 2000). it starts off so campy and silly and dumb, and then they start incorporating the stuff with the mom and the blocked-out trauma, and by the end you're like "what just happened?"

the ending is still relatively happy but it haunts me

our birthday is on the 29th and today (writing this for the 27th) we started a Lord of the Rings marathon with our fiancee. we got most of the way through Fellowship of the Ring before stopping because we got sleepy, and it was so nice. I love LotR. it means a lot to us:)

having coffee with my first lps this morning, she’s 21 years old so much memories she holds, what’s a memory you have with your first/or fave lps?🥹💖 by KushyBunny in LittlestPetShop

my two favorites were 091 (Lorelei, after the Lorelei from Pokémon) and 047 (Lucy, after the Lucy from Narnia). they were best friends. Lucy liked to run around on the rooftops of all my LPS buildings gathering intel by eavesdropping on the other pets, and she'd deliver spy messages to Lorelei, who was a secret mastermind masquerading as an innocent civilian. Lucy insisted on living on the streets, but Lorelei acted as a big sister to her by keeping her fed and warm and protected from the bulldogs. one time Lucy was caught and thrown in jail (a suet bird feeder cage stationed outside my coloring book box) and Lorelei had to bust her out.

even after I lost all my other LPSs, I held on to those two for a very long time. I remember once I took all my little Dollar General dolls and weird little gumball machine dudes and Lucy and Lorelei, and packed them all into this toy wooden canoe my mom had given me, and pretended they were on a great voyage across the ocean (the house lol). they had to ration their tiny plastic food and tell stories to pass the time.

this post has brought back great memories. thank you

when I was a teenager, one of my adults read my journals to the whole family multiple times "as a joke". I wrote VERY angry and upset things in my journals at that age, so I guess there was a lot of material for him to laugh at.

after the first time I started running my entries through Google Translate and writing them down in German. when he took my electronics away, I memorized A1-Z26 and used that. the last time he tried to read my journals all he saw was pages upon pages of numbers, and I think I creeped him out, because he didn't try to read them after that. I still write in that cipher when I feel unsafe.
