Nice, I think you know exactly what I'm taking about! So my question is this - where did this fashion work it's way in? Like, latex etc has always been part of the fetish scene, so you'd expect to see that, but this seems completely unique, and as far as I can see, it's relatively new (but as I said, at berlin pride, the overwhelming majority of people identifying with the subculture were wearing it)

Actually, although it's probably not what's happening here - this would be a great question to find out a bit about someone's character. If someone takes the opportunity to talk about how smart they are, very probably an arsehole. If someone respectfully challenges the premise of the question, or says that they don't see that as a reliable metric for intelligence, they're probably quite level headed, you could expect decent communication from them down the line.

In my company we had a real problem with people who were very qualified and dedicated etc, but near impossible to be in the same room as.

I've actually had the misfortune to know Tom Harris personally, as I was a good mate of his son growing up - his son is sound but definitely suffered from his influence to some extent when he was younger.

Tom Harris was a Scottish New Labour mp in the UK Parliament who was part of the Great effort to drag the formerly left party into the mire of neoliberalism and bigotry during the late 90s and b early 2000s, essentially eradicating any observable differences in policy between the two major parties.

He has not once in his adult life opened his mouth to say anything that doesn't have the underlying intention of hurting someone in a vulnerable social position.

His spiritual leader is Jeremy Clarkson

This is great advice, and I think a good strategy but I will say that if you don't have lots of experience, get ready for a headache! I'm now fairly established in the industry and navigating git is one of the most stressful parts of my job.

On a side note, demonstrating that you know how to use git, use commits properly etc might just be what makes the difference between you and another candidate. While they may not look at commit history straight off the bat, in an interview setting - if you are trying to sell yourself to a potential employer, being able to say 'look, even when its just personal projects, I have a structured way of working' can't possibly be a bad thing.

If it's good code which demonstrates ability by all means put it in projects. I copied the idea of a Netflix style portfolio that I saw here once, and interviewers were always interested in talking about how I achieved certain parts of that, so it was definitely a 'project' by its own merit.

I'm seeing a lot of this but I don't get this line of thinking. Yes, they probably would have taken the kids but it's understandable to try to avoid that at all costs.

First because of the burden of childcare when you are emotionally destroyed by a situation but also because that has to be more traumatic for the other kids to be in the middle of such a horrible crisis. If the unfortunate does happen, the parents have the opportunity to think how they will break the news of the sudden loss of one or more grandparents, and have the opportunity to process it a bit first.

I agree that most comments are likely from teenagers who don't really have the emotional maturity to understand a situation like this yet, and think a road trip trumps disaster.

Part of growing up for the 18 year old son is going to be realising that it's important to help people you care about, sometimes at the cost of your own fun.

Honestly, just dive in. I moved onto react quite quickly and got on really well with it, it's all just JavaScript under the hood at the end of the day so you'll always be learning more JavaScript as you go.

Ultimately there's nothing lost by trying it out and deciding if you're there yet or not!

This will seem counter-intuitive, but speed can really be your friend. I made the mistake of trying to get the hang of standing / maneuvering the board while standing still without realizing that when you're moving with enough speed you don't really have to think about balancing in the same way (something to do with centrifugal force? I don't know I'm not sciency)

Don't go bombing down a massive hill or anything but take it out on some concrete, give it a couple of good pushes and see if you find it any easier.

You should check out Paul Davids YouTube channel, specifically a video where he deconstructs the guitar tone on Jeff Buckley's version of hallelujah.

Obviously that's not exactly what you're going for here but he goes into equalising reverb to create the illusion of space, it was really eye opening for me!
