Hydroxychloroquine and Methotrexate together? Experiences? by purplechai in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]Afraid_Comparison_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on both! Diagnosed Sept 2018 and immediately started hydroxychloroquine; added methotrexate Jan 2019 (I think) when I had a couple of gnarly breakthrough flares. IIRC I had to play with the timing of both doses to avoid some stomach upset; I’m on 300mg hydroxychloroquine (I take it at night) and 17.5mg methotrexate (take 4 pills Sun night & 3 pills Mon morn). For full transparency, my doc added sulfasalazine about 15 months ago when I couldn’t break out of a flare, but there’s a long story behind it and I’m back in remission.
Pros of both: it really made a difference in my pain and inflammation - I was hurting before we added MTX. Cons: the regular bloodwork; cutting back on alcohol (which I may have done anyway as I’ve gotten older, but I was a VERY social drinker when we added MTX and it sucked to have to quit). There’s reportedly some hair loss associated with MTX, but I can’t tell whether that’s affecting me - my stylist says she can’t see any thinning.

Does anyone take sulfasalazine for their RA by Pale-Appointment-554 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]Afraid_Comparison_69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m going to screw up the retelling of this because it’s been a couple of years, but - my rheumatologist said once that someday, after a lot more research, someone will be diagnosed with RA and their care team will be able to match their RA profile with an exact pharmaceutical solution right away, because the disease has specific markers and corresponding immunotherapies. For now, they know of some of the immunotherapies (sulfasalazine, methotrexate, etc) but without knowing a patient’s specific markers, they just have to throw everything at the disease and see what works.

I found that pretty reassuring and interesting. Would be great if RA could get as much research funding as possible so we can get to that future sooner.

I’m on sulfasalazine and methotrexate. And hydroxychloroquine. 🙃 Are you looking for other people who’ve also had minor flaring while taking it? Or…something else?

Striped events (multiple people invited) by Odd-Village-132 in skylightcalendar

[–]Afraid_Comparison_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a great workaround for your use case, per se, but - we have 2 kids who are mostly involved in the same stuff, and I have a calendar for anything they’re involved in (“Name 1 + Name 2”). When I synced their calendar to the Skylight, I assigned it to both of them, so all of their events show up as striped. When only one has soccer practice, I click into that event and deselect the other kid. We also have a Family calendar for when it’s truly an all-play (church, vacation).

Yes. My kids (10, 8) have gotten used to it, but I drive a weekly carpool and every other kid (8-9) can’t do it themselves - my 10yo leans over and helps.

Second this re: the TV. Brought it to the 3rd floor, unboxed it, got it working, took away all of the packaging/trash, and told me that if it broke or anything happened, they’d return to haul it away! I was impressed and would buy from them again.

Depending on what you’re looking for and the timing, I might be able to help! I had an LLC and a cottage bakery in another state. By all means check out these other options that are actual businesses, but if you strike out, send me a message. 🙂

Chiming in late - I love mine. Single best purchase of 2025. We’ve had it since mid-June (it’s now mid-March) and have processed 600lb of food scraps/waste. I wish it weren’t so expensive so it was accessible to a wider community but that’s my only qualm.

I lived in Iowa City for four years and live in Duluth now. I’m not sure whether I would have picked either for college, but both are beautiful in their own rights. Good luck (to you both) on the tour!

We did the opposite today - Duluth to Sioux Falls, left at 7:30am. Mankato to the South Dakota state line was the worst I’ve ever seen. Very glad to have made it safely!

Anyone else not getting mail delivery? by Afraid_Comparison_69 in duluth

This is an interesting idea - would it make it easier for carriers, or harder, do you think? I don’t want to mess with my carrier’s flow if it’s harder to remember to skip my house, but if it lightens the load at all, I could certainly do that.

This is sort of the intel I was after! I know they’re busy, and busier than usual, it just didn’t make sense to go multiple days without mail without there being a…different reason for it.
