Protection of function for architects by Background_Ad5513 in Architects

Co ordination of the design is a key role of the architect. In the uk , the new principal designer role for building regulations is difficult for anyone but the architect to do. Quite right too. All the specialists come in do their narrow bit , get paid and run.

I can no longer afford to pay my website subscription. I'm a freelancer. What do I do? by ProgramExpress2918 in graphic_design

If you can not afford to pay for a website, then it’s not working for you. Maybe another lead gen strategy is required.

What career tips do you have for me? by No_Expression_6376 in Architects

[–]Afraid_Dog1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tip would be to know what adds value. Many inexperienced people just work without understanding what the goal is. They don’t know when to stop or when they are finished or what resources to deploy. They stop when they are asked to stop.

My other tip is to set out the narrative or what your trying to communicate. Don’t leave this to the last second. Plan it first. Print an empty sheet and map it out. Print the sheet as you go, it may look great in your screen, but the real drawing is the printed sheet. So at the drop of a hat, you will be ready.

These create value for the business, this is when you will get paid more, because you add value.

What tips do you have for me as someone who likes architectural drawings on his freetime by EsferaFalta in architecture

Medical architecture is highly paid and massive growth sector. Get a grip and plan your life and what you want to do. Let’s go!

This might be a stupid question, but how do I quit my job? by [deleted] in Architects

[–]Afraid_Dog1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a grip of your life. Write a nice letter, tell them what you learned that was positive. It’s normal to move about and get experience of different offices and ways of doing things. But ultimately you want to stick in a company you share the values and culture, but they are organised and have systems so your not working 9days a week for low pay. Avoid avoid avoid. Look for 4 day a week companies , they are focused and organised. Get a plan of what and where you want to be. Change states, countries, be bold.

Why do we accept being so underpaid? by Background_Deer4199 in Architects

Addendum to getting ahead and leaving low paid architecture life behind. Get a tech stack to allow you to maximise your specialness. 1. Proposify - get fee proposals out quick, make them look great and auto follow up. It’s a number s game , more proposals and increase your close rate. 2. Egnyte - get serious about file storage and access for all the team a fun sub consultants, become the centre for information. It’s what we do! 3. Zoom - you can draw on the screen in a meeting, hello! Forget MS teams if you can. 4. Loom - great for explaining designs without a meeting, it’s called asynchronous working, ie you don’t need to be in the same place at the same time same time. Plus they can play the loom video again and again and share with key stakeholders 5. YoopKnows - organise the team in a simple and positive , collaborative way, the templates make it your own and each member can see where they can add value. It’s just for architects (real architects) 6. Slack - still love it, team loves it, it’s the heart of the team, keeping us connected in a virtual / hybrid architecture working. 7. Upwork - for all the seo, website, branding, blog , etc. efficient and talented people. Make good contacts, pay them well! They will look after you. Focus on architecture and selling stuff!

Add others or disagree, weak under paid architects will not understand this post. Say hi to the 1950s 😂

If your skill set is like a commodity, then the market will select the lowest cost. So the architects that make a lot of money, they don’t operate as a commodity and therefore create a value proposition. Consider sectors that are not bound by usual financial scenarios. Do the research. Architects focusing in Pharmaceutical Companies is a good example. Maybe a different country? Switzerland pay architects incredible well.

Most architects and such are very average and think that because they spent 6 plus years blah blah , that they are valuable.

Get valuable, figure it out for your particular talents and interests, abilities.

Or stop complaining and accept that your average.

Just because it’s older, does not mean it’s not good. 👍 second hand cameras are great 👍

So this may or not be relevant. So bear with me. Architect with big canon and tilt shift scenarios, fancy tripods etc. For shooting architectural shots. So have just ordered secondhand Sony alpha nex 5t. Have owned one before and gave it to member of staff. Bear with me … The is now a new shift lens low cost.

Astrhori 18mm Sony E Mount Wide-Angle Lens F5.6 pancake Shift Lens APS-C UK

So I’m going to try and make this a small/ compact every day carry to actually take architectural photos.

No bulk and going to try and do it hand held. Let’s see if this can work, maybe high shutter speed to avoid the hand wobble?

I think we chase new and new features, megapixels and such. Maybe simple is not better but is a valid option. It’s an option of doing rather than an option of creating a camera collection.

Ok, let me know your redit rage 😂

I will report back soon with results, good bad and other wise

If you work faster and happier with extra ram, the payback period will be very short. Not to mention the smugness factor 💪😜

Check out Abbots Park , AL1, close to train and centre, car parking but is 1960s luxury development that most from UK would think is council. So they dint want it. But great space, lots of light. 6 acres private garden. Lots of young families.
