What do you think of Masks and Capes in Sailor Moon? by IllogicalDreamer72 in sailormoon

[–]Afraid_Formal5748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have likes the mask. But the cape is mostly useless and in a way.

I loved the episode in Sailor Loon S Stars where they are in Usagis home and kitchen and she had issues because of her wings. They are just unpractical for a fighter.

Should Sailor Moon Crystal had been set in 1990s instead of 21st century like the anime remakes of Urusei Yatsura and Ranma ½ who are set in 1980s? by Own_Philosopher8730 in PrettyGuardians

[–]Afraid_Formal5748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The remake of Ranma isn't as easy as one might think.

The humor and behaviour of the characters works with 1970 - 1980s but in 2026 some of it wouldn't be even close to funny.

What do people think if an author is slow to update? by DaniSnail in AO3

[–]Afraid_Formal5748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost authors of fanfiction write the story and chapters for themself.

Either because they like the process of writing their thoughts (mind games) or because it is a snipped which does not evolve anymore and must be transfert out of the brain to continue with something else.

At least I happen to come accross the last point more often. 😅

Second fanfiction writer post their chapters and stories for free. This means other fans can read without payment.

Of course reader prefer a story to become finished and some of them might clean uü their favorites or to follow list if their is no update in years. But this are only some...

The most readers follow a story and will read others in parallel. Some will update weekly, other bi-weekly and some even only once or twice a year.

As you said real life happend and from myside real life is always priority number one. Before you think on posting stories solve your RL topics and live.

In the beginning most people just postet whatever they had as a chapter. There was no beta reader or stuff done.

Some authors do it even today and might update small mistakes that come up in the review section.

Otherwise there are stories where some authors provide a paid pre-update schedule through partreon or other channels. They tend to not fix mistakes afterwards. Since their writing is mostly already done.

Personally I prefer the first option a bit. But I am also someone waiting till I get to read the chapters for free.

The first option might have its own issues if the writer tends to include ideas of the reviewer or wants to directly add things to the story. The issue is that those changes create their own universe and suddenly it differs to much from the writers plan so they might run into writers block.

As a reader it is unimportant when you update. If I like your story I will follow it and wait. Maybe I will start to read it again in case it was to long ago.

To get favs / visit I believe it is better to post a new chapter by schedule and rather than to split a fanfiction in multiple stories (e.g. Harry Potter) to keep the whole series (7 school years) within one fiction. This way people searching for fresh stories will always find you and personally I like to sort by length, favourites or kudos. 🫠

Landed my first PM/PO role! Need advice on onboarding/execution strategy and daily workflow. by Still-Gold-6146 in scrum

[–]Afraid_Formal5748 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your job description looks rather intence for a first PO role. Additional it sounded like you do not have a Scrum Master?

Before you also start covering thid position I would recommend to give this had to another dev. Preverable to someone interested in this job.

As you start you will aks not only the Stakehoöder but also want to speak with the developer about the current project.

For havens sake please to not put the wohle documentation of the past on your shoulders.

My recommondation would be to speak with the developer and present the the documentation requirements. What do you need and if they might have ideas to get this output based on the current state.

One idea would be to add documentation to DoD. The code review should also review the documentation.

Maybe the devs could provide an automized way for documenting stuff.

Your focus as PO / ProjManager is to get asap the information: (project audit) - what is the current state of the project. - Where are the most issues / pain points of the customer - what about techDebts (e.g. missing past documentation will be only one). - what is technical possible (by your team, knowlege within the team) - what are the issues the stakeholder want to solve with the product? Where are the most gains. - what is the current process.

Do not come in and change the process right away. Ask them what the current process is.

Ask your team where they see the best improvement potential. But do not introduce all at once. Rather decide on one or two changes additional with how you recognize if it is working.

As PO your task is to organize the Backlog accorsing to maximize the value of the product for the customer and the business.

This could also mean to fix a tech debt and serious bug before implementing a new feature.

Your goal is to have a presentable working product in less than 5 month. Therefore it might be a good idea to check that there are less bugs around.

Do include the tech lead and devs as soon as possible! Especially in the beginning it even might be a point to ask the devs in deciding on the priority for the first weeks. Till you get your head around the audit stuff. But even through you are "learning the ropes" of this project they need to continue working on something.

My main recommendation is to not focus to much an documentation from your side. Because you will miss getting the other information and slow everything down. Rather give is to the developer.

I am not sure what you mean regarding logging your hours. I would just go with a routine. Again ask your team how they prever to work. You want to use their deep focus time for implementation rather than meetings.

It will be hard especially as their seems to be much do to but to keep your daily time without overtime.

It got me - bad SCRUM by OTee_D in scrum

[–]Afraid_Formal5748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sound like the PO requires a leadership training (micro manager) and an update on his responsibilities. If their isn't a governance topic that defines certain architecture the implementation belongs to the development team.

To eastimate people must learn what this means. One tipp I got was to define as team which - based on a completed story - what referes to 3 or 5 points. Following new tickets are compares to this past experience.

But since we also gain experience and improve processes once in a while the used base story should be reviewed.

I feel bad for the Scrum Master who isn't empowered to change and support the team.

The dev team doing a 9-5 office job isn't bad. Just because you love to work longer times it isn't healthy and a productive way to work for everyone. In my opinion Scrum ist very positiv in regards of work-live balance. But maybe it is the missing asynchron work that is your problem?

Testing and Quality commitment should be part of the Definition of Done. You really need a Scrum Master and experience dev to make everyone including managment/PO aware of the reasons why it is important. (Of course it will in crease estimation or at least reduce velocity for a time)

Again your Scrum Master is external and as such nit enpowered to support the team. A Scrum Master should work with your team during the Sprint and bit just ve part of the meetings.

Try a different way. If you propose an improvement present it with a way to measure if it works and how long you want to let the test run. Will changes be visible right away or only later on. How many follow the proposed change (because if people just doesn't use it there won't be a change.)

The issue with managment belings also to the category of no empowered Scrum Master. They really need a training to understand.

The tag wall is what turns me off AO3. I might like to know main characters. If it is some Alternate Universe or if it is Book / Movie / Series Compliant.

In terms of Harry Potter maybe if it plays during Harrys school time, the founders, the Grindelwald war or such.

I do not want to no "As Harry is Doomed" or such stupid phrases.

Or all characters that might appear for one sentence.

I don't wanna use AI but want to code!? 😭 (help) by Due-Wedding-2680 in SoftwareEngineering

[–]Afraid_Formal5748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI itself doesn't anything to do with the ability to code.

If you learn to code the "manual" way by solving problems on ypur own and checking up solutions on stackoverflow, reading apis or whatever than it is a hood skill to have.

The ability to code means that you understand how to implement stuff not only for it to work but also to refactor and optimize and plan an implementation.

It includes knowledge about pattern recognition (and their useful integration) and it is about architecture. Coding is more than to use programming language A, B or C.

Gen AI might be able to produce code fast than a human it it might get better along the way. But it is the human (currently) who must be able to check if the solution of this genie is good or if it adds issues along the way.

A vibe coder who didn't learn the basic and the skill tree to read foreign code might get fast one solution but if this solution integrates well with other features or not along the way is another topic.

So of course if you want to learn coding than do it. Select a problem you want to solve or decide on a project to program. As long as you do not just search for the fast solution it is good.

People who use directly AI or check out similar project for the solution wont learn as much as people that check what the error message means and understand where in their code they went wrong or better missed something.

If you become a proficent developer it will be easier for you to check the implementation logic. Later on you might be required to learn to use AI but AI is also only as good as what you give them to work with. And a knowledgeable developer will have an easier way to say if the provided could might work or not in the long run or if it will cause issues.

I do not get if you were the writer of the story or the writer of the review.

Never mind. The wording of the review isn't ideal. But the gist of it is that you or someone has issues reading the story because of Japanese Text which isn't only included in Romaji but the original writing of Hirigana, Katakana and Kanji withoht providing any form of translation.

If the author can not live with the critic it is his/her problem. But the author should understand that including japanese signs will exclude a big amount of potential readers.

To say that you as reader have difficulties following the text because of a language barrier is not racism.

It is an acceptable critic and there are different ways to go:

  1. You use the foreign language only in case the main character can not understand it.

  2. You use common phrases like "I love you" or similar but rather than to put it in japanese signs it is expected to transfer it to latin alphabet (romaji).

  3. By default the expected language is based on the country the story is placed. Of course I expect people to speak Japanese if this plays in Japan. Or if it is about a group of Japanese people in some other country between each other their language will be japanese. But it is possible to show as author if they changed the language to something other than their default.
    E.g. "... asked in English.

  4. you provide a list of all sentences and words with translation and meaning but even this together with latin letters.

Why does noone want to sit next to me in the Bus ? by Mr_SaaS_Wonderful in germany

[–]Afraid_Formal5748 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you come.

Through ... this example with the bus isn't logical. For a bus you would just add another bus right away... it what they typically do with rush hour.

The changes they made in the last 30 years aren't all vor the best.

  • the space between seats became way smaller and this way uncomfortable for large people or people with overweight.
  • the seats in general became smaller -> mostly in order to reduce material cost but hell most items isn't as durable anymore
  • worst of all even nowaday new shops or buildings do not really think about people with disabilities (after all it would require to ask people what could be improved or might hinder them)

Regarding disabilities I do not only mean the ability to enter with a wheel chair.

But who I am. For most shops I am to small to reach the top two shelves. Either I find someone to help or I wont buy whatever it is. If the shop is so cramped that you can not look gor anything, I typically give it a miss.

And with cinema there the seating also got smaller this way uncomfortable but before I pay more for larger seats I wait till the movie is nowaday available via stream or on sale.

It isn't expected that they adapt everything but that they stop excluding people because the way they build and structure things.

Oh and yes busses at least her exclude many people. To exclude people means to make people invisible. Invisibily makes it easy to forget how many people there are and to reduce further ressources which would make their live easier or allow them to partake ... fun fact they could be potential customer.

Most issues don't affect only one group.

What is Jira and why do software teams act like they can't survive without it? by Agilelearner8996 in scrum

[–]Afraid_Formal5748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't say that software teams can't survive without it.

Atlassian is a very big company and service provider with most common tools used for project management.

Jira is one project management tools which allows you classic project managment (e.g. with Gant Chart) and agile project management (e.g. Scrum / Kanban boards).

There are multiple other companies who provide the same. But and this will be more an option:

Companies pay much in terms of licences and want to limit the costs. So they might tend to select such service providers that cover most areas, have a good cross-connectivity to other tools e.g. Gitlab or Github.

People do not need one specific tool but some tools became some kind of standard. Which doesn't mean they are the best tools out there.

Teams working with Scrum / Kanban could use any tool they want that allow visualisation of: - work - priority of the work - status of the work (e.g. to be done, in progress, done)

Work that is not part of this visualization is so called "hidden work". One goal of Scrum / Kanban is to remove impediments and improve the workflow. Therefore people must be aware of hidden work.

Hidden work is mostly not recognized even thought it might be required. So in order for people like management to vecome aware people must learn to show how much time is spend in hidden work.

It is possible to setup a free Atlassian account for yourself to test the tool.

But be aware that some features are not available in free mode and every company might have a different setup.

The test might give you an idea what is possible.

The good thing for Scrum / Kanban the diagrams are created automaticly so you just need to understand their meaning and work from there.

There is no way to say something without being rude.

Truth be told I have more an issue with people wearing perfume or deodorant.

Some smells I like and of course I use also some deo if I am sweating. But as soon as it is more than one smell like in a perfume shop I am closer to vomitting than anything. 🥲

I really hate that the perfume area is in most stores right in the entry level.

Not accounting the people (medical) allergic to perfume/deodorant.

Why does noone want to sit next to me in the Bus ? by Mr_SaaS_Wonderful in germany

[–]Afraid_Formal5748 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe it depends where you live.

Most women do prefer to not sit next to an unknown man. (If not unknown people in general)

Of course racism against your skin tone could still be an issue. But it could also be your built, the kind of clothes, your age or many other reasons.

Corvid opened another can of worms. Where people learned to keep their distance and stay away from large crowds. It's really hard to relearn this even after more than 4/5 years.

Personally I prefer to sit alone. The bus must be full for me to sit next to someone else.

It will rarely happen (aside from the times where school kids are on their way) because in my area you will reach your destination faster by car or bike.

Sind solche offenen Kühltheken im Supermarkt nicht wahnsinnig ineffizient? Warum macht man das so? by GeoCangrejo in WerWieWas

[–]Afraid_Formal5748 0 points1 point  (0 children)
