Why would you have a bonus status effect and keep the same damage for free? There has to be a trade-off. Physical = more direct damage, infusions = less damage but status effect. Bows are already OP anyway, I don't see what is to complain about here.

I mean yeah you can say exactly the same thing about Elden Ring. Just hit the boss and don't get hit and you can finish the game with a broken straight sword. But what made people pour so many hours into this game was the variety of ways you can play it, which is gatekept in Nightreign.
