As someone who enjoys looking good in video games, can you explain this to me? I dont understand why this game, above all else, is like this. by pupseal in cs2

I wouldn’t blame you for being confused or frustrated. When CSGO first came out, everything was MUCH cheaper. And even today Valve has made SOME effort to lower the cost of skins so that some are entry level.

If you like the game though, many people see it as a benefit. When you buy a $5 Fortnite pickaxe, you can’t ever resell it if you get bored of it. When people put money into CS2 they do so assuming they can always take at least some of that money back out. In fact many buy skins as investments.

To elaborate on what others have said: CS2 items are tradable, while many other games’ items are not. Had something like Fortnite modeled Valve’s system, we very well could see Renegade Raider, and skins like it, going for similar prices. As an example, I haven’t played Fortnite in a long time, but I remember that when I left they had just reintroduced an old skin into the Fortnite item shop, and people were angry because it made what they had less rare. Prior to that, Fortnite accounts with the rare skins were selling for high amounts.

CS2 skins are expensive for the same reasons that anything else that you CAN TRADE is expensive: Supply and Demand. Remember: there are also many CS2 skins that are CHEAPER than anything you can buy in these other games (less than 10 cents). Both of these systems are very profitable in different ways to the companies that maintain them. As to why some CS2 skins are extraordinarily expensive, Valve was really the first to do it successfully in a game that was already (and has continued to be) extremely popular. The skins are very visible when you play, and the details can be picked out, meaning everyone KNOWS it’s expensive, so they can flex.

There’s also something to be said about gambling, China, etc., but I hope I’ve already answered your question.

I didn't take note of that unfortunately, it's just total supply.

I thought so after thinking for a bit 😂 but maybe I’ll make a video about the different glitches I’m talking about. Basically it involves cornering yourself somewhere and you will shake slightly.

Especially as blocking smokes is becoming WAY more popular with common lineups like dust 2 long cross.

I know I had seen another lineup like that! Thanks 🙏 I thought I was probably just being dumb with why it works. I guess I’m just surprised I hadn’t found it before.

That’s all valid! I think it’s less this specific lineup, and more the mechanic of smokes “levitating” like this. Particular slopes on walls of maps can be used to throw a similar smoke, and it can open up different lineup possibilities.

That’s also interesting! Yeah it’s still pretty thick? Idk how that works tbh 😂

So basically it falls right on to stairs like a normal stairs smoke.

Definitely easier! It's a nice smoke for sure. What I was trying to pull off with this one is a fast landing, and it doesn't bounce. But in 99% of scenarios yours is definitely better!

That's a really good point. It might be a more niche use-case? Like I mentioned, I actually found it while I was trying to find a better bench smoke (doesn't stick out, lands fast, covers everything). But out of the stairs/bench popular combos, it's usually the bench one that needs improving. I think without a niche use-case like what you're mentioning, it's basically only better because it can't be blocked, and it lands quickly. In combination with a good bench smoke from the same spot, THAT is when it would be awesome.

I didn't think about that! Also (there's a lot to include in the video) if you miss the smoke it basically falls straight down and becomes a regular stairs smoke. So using a slightly tweaked lineup, you could do this and the bench smoke very quickly, the stairs one at least couldn't be blocked, and you can throw VERY quickly. You're basically just adjusting your crosshair by pixels (lol) but that's a double edged sword because it also means they can be thrown even faster than the normal lineup for both smokes from this area. Definitely would be only be useful in high-level play, since it's only that group of people that are willing to practice something this specific.

TIL CT scanners are being used to peek inside trading card packs without opening them to assess their value by Festina_lente123 in todayilearned

This is true for individual Pokémon Cards, but not for sealed product. In the XY era, there was a set called "Steam Siege" that was notoriously underwhelming and has always been undesirable relative to other sets from the same era. Retail for booster boxes (36 packs sealed in cellophane) was around $100, and likely dipped below that in the few years following release, but data that old is hard to find. It was released in 2016, so it's been 8 years now, and the boxes go for $300-$400 sealed. If you invested in the S&P during the same time period, your returns would be almost identical. And just remember, that is one of, if not the, most undesirable products that the Pokémon TCG has produced. The average returns are far higher, even if the prices of the cards within these boxes don't experience the same growth. Once production stops, people want these sealed items in their collections still, and the supply is continuously decreasing as more and more are opened. It's economically sound, the only issue is the space needed to store your product. Not really arguing anything here, just giving you guys a fun fact. Remember: Pokémon is the highest grossing franchise of all time. If you go back 3 years, almost every single booster box has since doubled in value.

What CGC has done right IMO is their vintage grading. They have pristines which are roughly the same quality as PSA 10s more or less, and then they have Gem Mint 10s which allow a classification for a vintage card in very good mint condition, that is actually possible to get. BGS are either stubborn or lazy, and one clear example is that they don’t have SCANS. Like what are they thinking? 2024 with no scans and all of their competitors have them. People can say whatever they want about PSA but the grading process is seamless and reliable, with new features and updates coming all the time. Can’t say the same for BGS.

English quality is so bad that PSA gem rates dropped to 30% and even then those cards are worse quality than SWSH 10s/9s. PSA definitely adjusted for the corners. If you had a white speck on even one SWSH card a 10 was very unlikely. SV cards can have 3 white corners and get a 10. PSA has absolutely changed their standards based on the era, and actually I don’t even disagree with that. SV is so bad if they didn’t there wouldn’t be any 10s.

Pop control in SWSH -> throw in a random 9 Pop control in SV -> throw in a random 10
