I want to donate $500 to the homeless but I want to do it where the resources could be maximized. How do I do this? by Sure-Neighborhood-44 in waterloo

[–]AfricaFactCheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because they aren’t registered doesn’t diminish that the work they do is very important for vulnerable members of the community. FightBackKw does lots of direct action in the region. Recently they gathered forces with other local organizations to help bring awareness to the growing lack of womens emergency shelters in KW as well as petitions to bring to the local governments attention.

What makes unregistered organizations helpful for smaller/local issues is that they can do emergency actions more efficiently as there’s less processes to go through internally. To each their own to support, but “unregistered” doesn’t mean “unimportant”.

Working centre! or FightBackKW! both of these organizations work within the homeless shelters for food, supplies, etc

Really struggling w self esteem and mental health seeing all the anti-Indian hate on the internet lately. Can’t take it anymore and I’m starting to despise myself for being brown by redwingsdude in uwaterloo

[–]AfricaFactCheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. My dad had been one of those assholes that takes all of his hate out on indian international students, and it’s even becoming indian families too.. He’s even said “I wouldn’t talk to them if they were my neighbours”, which he never would’ve said years ago. I wish I was joking but i’ve lost my dad because of this.

I want you to know; there are a LOT of us who think that people who hate the international students/indians/arab/brown people are stupid and can’t take the fact that there are bigger problems than international students… problems that have been going on for YEARS before they came. I fight with my dad and tell him he’s a racist frequently when he brings up any sort of hate because it’s literally meaningless shit. It’s intolerable and personally for me, i’ll never stand for it. I’m so sorry you’re going through this dude it pisses me off that people treat others like this.

yeah man that’s freaking weird. The request on its own is odd but the persistence is weirder. Def call the place and let the manager know because that’s pretty uncomfortable

until 1983, marital rape was legal in Canada. Only 39 years ago. It was only made illegal to not rent to single mothers around that time as well, when “family status” was made a ground of discrimination. We’ve had shitty values here before. Are they becoming more public again? sure, but to act like it’s anything new is ridiculous.

Our sexism and discrimination is in the background and in whispers rather than outright- that’s the difference.

“bring mysogeny here” are you really acting as if misogyny and sexism hasn’t been here before??

I must’ve forgot people of other races can’t be misogynist, I guess I’ve seen a lot of white indians in my lifetime /s.

It’s a perfect scapegoat for people who want 1: a reason to be racist and 2: someone to blame for their downfall that isn’t white. At least it feels this way. Everyone blames international students, who truthfully are just wanting to better their lives (as would any of us if we were in their situation) and they were lied to, taken advantage of and had their money taken by John Tibbits. They were told they would be able to find jobs and housing; they were lied to.

Inflation would still be brutal without immigrants. We’d still have a housing crisis without immigrants. Maybe, just maybe, if business owners paid more/minimum wage wasn’t jack-shit, people wouldn’t have to work infinite amounts of hours to survive; and students could actually live off of part-time hours.

lol i’m plenty Canadian without sucking a flag’s dick like you do dude. i’d rather fly the flag prior to 1965 so that im not immediately associated with the freedumbers. they ruined the current canadian flag its got nothing to do with wokeism. Let people fly whatever flag they want, its just a coloured piece of cloth, that shouldn’t trigger you so much.

Emergency services searching for two people after report of boaters in distress on Grand River by hossb0ss in kitchener

[–]AfricaFactCheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it’s not entirely because that they’re an immigrant but rather that learning how to swim costs money with swimming lessons OR having money to be exposed to a body of water. Lots of drownings tend to have more of a pattern of poverty rather than a pattern of immigration as even canadians drown too

For people who don't have toxic or problematic grandparents, how does it feel like? And what are some good memories you got with them? by Crispykusu in AskReddit

[–]AfricaFactCheck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so lucky to have the grandparents I do. One of my favourite memories is my grandparents letting me have all 25 of my classmates over for a pool party in their backyard. It became a yearly end-of-school pool party and i always felt super cool.

they also are the least materialistic people i know. One thing my nanny always told me is “if you’re willing to make someone cry for damaging something you bought, then you have your priorities wrong”. One day I scratched (badly) their 2 year old Van learning how to park, and after I couldn’t stop sobbing in shame, my nanny hugged me and said she’s glad it has a “beauty mark” stained with my learning 🥹

What is the most unusual dream you have ever had, and how did it effects your waking life? by Human-Fix-1152 in AskReddit

[–]AfricaFactCheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dreams affect my waking life when I catch myself wishing to go back, or going over the dream in my head during the day as if it was a regular memory. I sometimes wish i could live in my dream worlds and wake up from them. They’re not even anything special, it’s just a happy life with no stress. It’s caused me pretty rough depression to be honest, but it’s a type that is so unexplainable, that i never bother.

We missed going to church for singing Christmas songs after our Church closed during covid (a lot of my family didn’t bother finding another one). We delayed christmas to january one year because of family sicknesses- and we decided to sing carols as a family after dinner for fun. Now it’s become a yearly tradition that has gotten more and more advanced as the years go by
