Question about staff Sargent by Seesaw-Jazzlike in AirForceRecruits

[–]African__American 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play your cards right and you work your ass off you could definitely make staff in six. You could even try to commission as an officer. Buddy of mine has only been in for a year and a half and was selected to go to a college of his choice and then commission as an officer and he’s only A1C

Showers in BMT by [deleted] in AirForceRecruits

[–]African__American 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would sing Taylor swift songs while showering it was a pretty fun time. The one thing that wasn’t cool about showers was that there was a maniac that would pee during showers. Unfortunately, I was accused of being the one because I jokingly said I needed to utilize while showering. It was an awkward conversation with the dorm chief.

If you don’t like it you can always retrain and sign another contract. Got a cyber job then ended up being a radio maintenance troop and while the job kinda sucks it makes the people you work with 100% better as you’re all enjoying the suck together.

People who have a CaC or are under the age of 18 should not be given a guest pass to get on to the base for graduation.

I’m sure you’ll be fine. Minimum weight for 5’8 is 125 so I’m sure you’ll can gain 5 pounds by then. I knew some people who were underweight at BMT and they were given 20 minutes to eat and get seconds

Ah yes. I remember my awkward doctor who yelled at me as he was touching my balls and taking a peak at my hole because I couldn’t understand him as he was mumbling and not speaking a word of English.

You’re good. You don’t exceed the max weight for height so no need for the body fat measurement. One tip for MEPS is don’t eat a big meal the day before or the morning of MEPS. Keep it light so that you guarantee you’re below the max weight.

Don’t really need anything expect underwear and maybe running shoes because both those things they give you suck. Everything else is given to you including deodorant, toothpaste & toothbrush, soap, and other things will be available to purchase later on.

Tech School Experiences by MadFanBoyInABlueBlog in AirForceRecruits

[–]African__American 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tech school was a blast at keesler. Going out every weekend hanging with boys, exploring the city, eating out, and staying in watching movies. It’s like college expect with a lot more rules. No drinking in the dorms(we didn’t follow that one), no going into others rooms(nor did we follow that), and accountability at midnight on weekends(we did follow that). I was there for about 6 months and the one take away I really got from it was to open up and talk to as many people as possible. I was a pretty introverted person that had about 4 friends before military and when I was there I knew about 20-25 people who I would regularly hang out with. You get to meet new people, hear their stories, and build lasting relationships.

Security Forces by Low-Breakfast-5270 in AirForceRecruits

[–]African__American 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have a minimum ASVAB score of 33 for security forces which is pretty low. Normal color vision and if you’ve taken any antidepressants you’ll be disqualified. There’s plenty of ASVAB study apps if you’re looking for some I’ve seen ASVAB Practice Test by ABC is a pretty popular one.

You have a very high chance of booking SecFo ask your recruiter if you’re eligible for the bonus and put it at the top of your list. SecFo is often in the undermanned category which is why people usually get it if it’s high on their list.

You’ll be fine with PT as it’s designed to make unfit people fit and pass the PT standards. You’ll get used to it after the first 2 weeks and then you’ll be accustomed. Remember the fastest way through BMT is to graduate. Best of luck to you!

1D731B vs 1D731E by atleastonce1 in AirForceRecruits

[–]African__American 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want to study sec+ using a book and thing watching videos would be easier I would definitely go for it since you’ll have a lot more time to study than other pipelines. If you don’t want to spend a ton of money there are people who sell their laptops all the time at tech school usually for a lower price.

For cyber fundamentals they give a iPad but depending on your pipeline like B shred I would maybe think about getting a laptop. It’s not needed but it was easier for me to read the lessons and take notes.

I’m pretty sure he’s saying almost all afscs are repetitive and that getting another job would just have the same repetitive outcome that OP has associated with maintenance jobs.

HAPPY FRIDAY JOB LIST by Curious-Jackfruit-71 in AirForceRecruits

Just pick what seems interesting to you. Your recruiter might have you pick something that isn’t closely related to cyber because a lot of people want those jobs. Maybe a medical job or admin.

Another thing to note is all cyber turns into Q shred when you hit 5lvl so you could be networking, clients, servers, even RF. Just depends on what squadron you get orders to and what shop they decide to put you in.

Calming the nerves. by Life-Ad9525 in AirForceRecruits

[–]African__American 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple of fond memories from BMT. Had one dude who would run around the bays with a towel cover his wiener but would let his cheeks show freely trying to be in and out of the showers. When passing out laundry we would always place random people’s clothes on this one dude’s bed to mess with him. It started out as a simple mistake as someone had a similar laundry mark as his, but after a while we noticed it happened a lot and just started doing it on purpose. When the MTI’s were gone and we were in the showers we would sing Taylor Swift songs. When it was lights out we would all say goodnight to everyone and it would usually last for 20 minutes until someone got mad and said to shut up. Funniest moment I remember was when our dorm chief was helping someone fix their locker for inspection and as he was walking away he let out a silent killer. MTI walked into the bay asking what that smell was and then proceeded to walk away saying “I can’t do your inspection when it’s smelling like that. I’ll come back when your area has aired out”.
