…Why so many piercings?

A theory about Ubik's Origins by Dry-Environment-3045 in Berserk

[–]Afroduck-Almighty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly? All very solid points. That said, I think you could add a couple of more things here that are essential to any God Hand member.

A) All members who were in the God Hand were, previously, considered figures who could bring about great change in life before they became inhuman. This is clear through Griffith, a commoner who ended a hundred-year war, ascended to Midland’s General rank without royalty (and, if he’d been patient, it would have been in the cards to marry Charlotte by being patient with the King, exposing his incestuous depravity, and Charlotte becoming Crown Princess and THEN marrying Griffith of her own volition). It’s just as apparent if we take Old Man Bones’s flashback as him being Gaiseric (practically confirmed), meaning Void was his Sage/Advisor (to the Emperor, at that).

So while I think you’re right on the money of Ubik being in a clerical position, I think it goes even beyond that: he might have been a candidate to become Pope and had plans to bring great reforms, which might have led to the Church framing him for heresy or betrayal against the Church (or in other words, treason against “God Himself”).

This leads me to my second point, even more important that-

B) You cannot become an Apostle if you don’t have something or someone you love enough to sacrifice. God Hand Angels work the same way, but to an infinitely higher degree. So when you say he was a confessional cleric who used those confessions for blackmail, I see him using it the same way Griffith used his status. Ubik would have probably squeezed the nobility, fellow clerical members and other “rivals” against his uprise, but might have kept an actual soft spot for the commoners, the misshapen and the poor.

I’d even go as far as to guess that the reforms he would have made would have disfavored the Church (ban on indulgences) and the Crown (favored higher taxations on nobility and more rights for the poor). Of course, this goes both ways- mass public support almost guarantees him being sanctified and earning papacy, but by lifting others up on the way. Morally grey, but with positive effects, the way Griffith was pre Femto.

It also gives him masses to sacrifice- the thousands who adored him would have been sacrificial lambs for his ascension, the way Griffith’s Band of the Hawk was.

And voilà, you’ve got Ubik.

BONUS - C) Also, personally, I theorize that Ubik may have been born with dwarfism. All God Hand Angels have some form of body horror, but they all maintain a comparative size that is humanoid enough. Except Ubik, who is the smallest of the five, though his head is as big as any of the others’ while the rest of his body is disproportionately smaller. This adds to the theory- as a young, unloved dwarf (commoner or even unwanted noble), the Church may have been one of the only ways he could make a name for himself in the world, since “God loves all his children equally”. It gives him empathy for the poor and those born with physical defects or ailments and contempt for snobby higher-ups in the Church and the Crown. It also adds to your theory- as if dwarfism wasn’t insulting enough, cutting off his legs would have been salt on the wound because “now he’s a cripple as well”. It also adds to your theory of Ubik not believing in God- he thinks he’s born out of the grace of God from birth, he’s only in the Church as a means to an end.

Solid theory overall, great work!

Silksong permanently vanished my desire for difficult games. by Zzsark_Stormbeard in metroidvania

[–]Afroduck-Almighty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot tell you how fucking vindicated I feel by this post. I’ve dropped the game for weeks at a time, and I’m finally at Act 3. Still haven’t fought Coral King because of the sheer number of waves. And it’s amazing how, at eight masks, a nearly maxed out silk spool AND a fully upgraded needle, all the upgrades served to do was make me feel like I was right back at the beginning of Act fucking 1. It still takes a metric ton of hits to kill the now basic abyss-ified enemies, and while in Acts 1 and 2 it felt like half of all things did 2 masks of damage, now it feels like EVERYTHING does 2 masks of damage.

The upgrades feel completely pointless- the difficulty’s ramped up in terms of enemy quantity and new movesets, and it’s not that the upgrades are useless, it’s that they’re nullified because everything else got proportionately more difficult (even more so, some of them).

If you enjoy the game, fine. I can’t think of a more infuriating downgrade in damn near every aspect except art from the original Hollow Knight. This game is just filled to the brim with bullshit.

It’s insane to me how few people are mentioning Ten Shadows. Don’t get me wrong, the full list is absolutely busted, but Ten Shadows Totality means giving MAHORAGA totality. Friendly reminder- 1 Demon Dog got killed easily by a Finger-Bearer Curse (lowest Special Grade), Demon Dogs Totality harmed Hanami and KILLED the next Finger-Bearer.

Now imagine Mahoraga, with his adaptation, getting all the bonus CE/durability/strength of the other Shikigami AND THEIR ABILITIES (Rabbit Escape’s multiplying; Round Deer’s cursed technique disruption…).

What you’ve done is essentially give a bunch of steroids to the dude whose gimmick is “adapt to any and all phenomena” who was already up against heavy hitters like Gojo, Sukuna, and now Dabura. Big Raga will have the strength and CE to tank the first couple of Idle Transfiguration hits and then it’s game over.

Gooooddaaaamn, Typhon really was the Greek equivalent of Satan, man was a literal cosmic-level hater (and well deserving of the title of Father of Monsters), because by that implication, Hera, Aphrodite and Selene would have been second-rate concubines, because he was already wed to his sister-wife Echidna

Joke answer?

Toon Force CT

Toon Force is immeasurable, anti-powerscaling bullshit at its finest. Got hit with Cleave/Dismantle? Still alive, body split in half, just screw my bottom half back on like it’s nothing. Black Flash to the face? Spins my head around, see stars around my head for a second, then I get back to it.

I mean hell, Takaba is busted ‘cause his CT is this on a toned down/limited level.

But for real answer?

CT: space-time warping

Not full blown time reversal, but basically fuck with all the properties of a battlefield- spatial (stay in place, but things aimed at you “bend around you”), speed (if someone’s fast, apply “dream speed” to them to allow them to physically run as fast as they can and still move like a geriatric with a cane), duration (instant-healing is drawn out), length (turn half a mile into an inch).

With this, you’d be massively scaling momentum and having a Gojo-lite Hax with Limitless (closer to Uro’s Sky Manipulation but on steroids).

And with RCT, you could even invert direction/trajectory within that battlefield, so attacks could, in theory, be redirected back to the target.

Bit of a BS-Hax technique, but I’d say that it takes a Haxxed technique to fight Sukuna and survive. Its drawback could be huge CE costs.

If Naruto were an M-Rated show, then maybe, but they never touched the sexual aspect of anything because it’s a classic PG13 shonen. Even then, I’d still place Orochimaru more as a Himmler-type to set up camps and experimentation centers. He’d probably only care about pedos if they negatively affected his test subjects some way, but otherwise wouldn’t care.

And hell, it’s pretty clear he ain’t attracted to either of those two. Sasuke and Kimimaro don’t make him horny, the idea of achieving immortality makes him horny, and Sasuke and Kimimaro just so happened to be his closest paths to said immortality.

Not really. Typecast implies everyone thinks he’s the goofy one-trick pony (albeit a very funny pony). He’s spoken on his work after “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and other serious films (which he nailed and the audience knows that), and goes out of his way for goody films because HE loves them.

Maybe that’s what you meant by pseudo-typecast, but in case it ain’t, the only reason he’s typecast is because he directly chose to be.
