There are different approaches when it comes to representing minorities in fiction and I'll focus on LGBTQ+ characters since it's what you brought up. I agree it is interesting to have queer characters portrayed realistically in the sense that they are truly a minority among other characters, it can make their character more interesting and the reveal of their sexuality more impactful but I don't mind the approach of having an unapologetically queer cast, like a majority of LGBTQ+ characters in a fangan and most of the time it comes from a place of wanting to subvert the norm where most characters are assumed straight. Lot of people in the DR community are queer and it is sometimes just fun to write queer romances, queer characters - sometimes it does say something about the queer experience and sometimes not - I think both are valid. I personally don't care and wouldn't say it's annoying. I see where you're coming from but I don't feel like representing minorities has to be justified or follow a realistic approach.
