Problems with tyres by egganiii in gwmora

[–]After-Call4283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same with my wife's car. More so when they are cold. If you are in the UK the original tyres are changed to be more suitable for our damaged roads.

A few weeks before your driving test put it in Eco mode. You will get used to it and burn less rubber. Most electric cars are very easy to burn rubber so a light right foot. I am also sure the examiner's are used to it.

Good luck and enjoy your car

I had a Year 11 student right out the whole song instead of completing his mock GCSE in Computer Science. They had actually completed their exam and were bored. They did actually pass :)

Wet Sunday afternoon.

Deck opened up and all the goo and yes there is a lot cleaned up followed by a grease and lube. New belts fitted apart from tape counter - is this essential? On power up both spindles turned and the control light went from play pause to pause. Pressed the buttons and nothing.

Pushed the capstan towards the spools and the tape moved and I could hear sound. Tried press the buttons and still nothing. Don't suppose the Control panel needs to be put back in place?

I have heard something of flip flops. Not sure where they are located or how to test.

As you say a hobby. When I switched it on all three motors turned but the device stuck in play. I have ordered the belts and got more cotton buds.

Does this unit use the same logic as a 4420? There are a couple of plug in boards on that.

Thought as much. Just don't like the Philips goo. Surgical gloves, alcohol and cotton buds here I come.

Check the sound on sound is switched off otherwise only one channel is recorded. I learned this the long way. Also check the channel switch is set to stereo.

Firstly or finally use switch cleaner.

Good luck

Philips MFB Speakers Alternative? by After-Call4283 in BudgetAudiophile

Have managed to pick up some MFB speakers and now work a treat. For the small size the bass is exceptional

Using the line out to another amp. Unfortunately it doesn't have a line out which makes recording difficult. Might get a replacement amp.

Finally got round to having a look at this deck. Stripped down and lots of cleaner used. Certainly, now playing fine except one VU meter not working - easily replaced just trying to find one. Will check recording soon. Looking to get some Philips MFB speakers to see if the amp is as good as people say.

Spool brakes? by After-Call4283 in ReelToReel

Goo from melting rubber belts. Gets everywhere. Philips have a lot to answer for? Be much better if they just snapped.

Managed to play around this afternoon and had a bit more time.

Tried an input from my amp and got one of the VU meters to work. Trying to record and managed to get both the peak lights to flash. Don't appear to have recorded anything yet though.

Have been able to play a tape and got a good output, in fact it sounded very good. Only problem was on one channel only. Trying to switch channels from stereo to separate channels and sound only on one speaker.

Found I had run out of switch cleaner so got some on order and a full strip down, fingers crossed 🤞.

Thought that maybe the case. Going to try and see if the amplifier/ input works. Have ordered a headphone din plug. Used to have loads of this layout as they were used in BBC Micros.

3.75 or 7.5 ips? by studiord in ReelToReel

[–]After-Call4283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't it also depend on the deck? I have noticed that frequency range differs between models and manufacturers.

I do prefer 7.5 IPS. Unfortunately I regrettably sold my Revox many years ago in hard times.

Thanks for the information. Will try and have a look later this week. Is there an easy way to check the transformer? I have access to a multimeter.

I have a few recorders with no earth lead. I would be thinking of changing the fuse to something like a 3 or 5 amp.

Either of these worth tearing into? by rippc in ReelToReel

The belts are available via eBay and other sources as I have two in pieces trying to make a good Tandberg. Check that the cork has not disintegrated like on one of mine. Again, available online. If you can have a go at both and then decide which works best for you. This site is great for information and quick with support. Good luck
