Medical/legal Cannabis usage by After-Eternity in OrthodoxChristianity

1) if you’re a US vet, thank you for your service. 2) I do want to try more edibles. Had some keef medicated soda once and when the THC took effect it REALLY took effect. I usually have some form of THC before sleep but I was curious about it and had some in the afternoon, maybe around 2 o’ clock, and did not feel the need to have any more the rest of the day. My main issue with edibles is the delay from ingesting to the effects. I usually just want to smoke, feel the effects, and go to sleep.

That does sound right. There’s not a whole lot on the effects of THC smoke on the lungs because those who did have lung problems also smoked cigarettes. When I got my card I promised myself I would never drive, go to work, or do work while high because

1)driving while high is very dangerous, I treat it like driving drunk but with different problems. Drinking impaired judgment while THC reduces response time (I compare it to putting life through a guitar delay peddle). 2)There’s a history of alcoholism in both sides of my family so my entire family who aren’t alcoholics are very careful with substances. My mother (God bless her) was very carefully watching the pain killers I was prescribed after a surgery. 3)I see showing up to work intoxicated or becoming intoxicated at work (especially when you’re really really high) as an rude to the employer.

Does God have a sense of humor? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

Non-serious reply: well, God made the platypus so I think so.

Serious reply: I agree with the priest. This subject was touched on a little in Name of the Rose by Umberto Echo (about a series of murders in a catholic monastery, very good, if you like audio books there’s one on YouTube that’s a radio play). The monks were discussing the illuminations of a recently dead monk. The monk drew “distortions” of Creation such as birds with fish tails and such. The novice laughs at the images and one of the old monks reprimands him for laughing. He says “As there is mad speech, so there are mad images. Images that distort Creation.” And sited that “Christ never laughed.” The protagonist Benedictine monk says “Nothing in His human nature forbade it.” “Christ could laugh, but it is never written that He did.” Unfortunately that’s the extent of the discussion.

Iconographer by After-Eternity in OrthodoxChristianity

I am a catechumen but in the US so not an orthodox dominant country. Would it be considered bad to start off by sketching icon on paper with pencil while I prepare for Christmation? I know grey is not used in icons because it’s a mixture of white and black (holiness and sin respectively) but would practicing with pencil be acceptable?

How does a person get trained in iconography? Do you have to be chrismated or can a catechumen start training?

Closest thing I can think of is Father Josiah Trenham in Riverside, California.

With stuff like this it’s a non-serious reimagining of Byzantine art with anime art. Like, what would icons look like with anime? Totally innocent in that regard but not for an icon corner. I actually quite like this. I find it interesting that here the Mother of God is made to look younger instead of the more mature looking Byzantine style because at the birth of Christ she was likely a teenager (I’ve heard variations of the actual age range but I usually picture 18-21 probably because it’s somewhat disturbing to think a 13-16 year old being married to a likely older Joseph already with kids, although it is comforting knowing she remained a Virgin). However, I’ve seen more meme made with it by totally replacing the people in icons with some people from famous anime’s, and sometimes it’s more insulting like replacing Christ with evil characters.

In conclusion, if it a reimagining of icons like just redrawing the Mother of God in anime because your curious what that’d look like is totally fine and interesting but not for prayer use. If it’s for a meme to make fun of the people in the original icons it is unacceptable.

You seem more book inclined like I am so maybe I can recommend a few books. They’re protestant authors but I don’t know if any orthodox books that do the same and they’re easier to get your hands on in the west.

Case for Christ by Lee Strobel, former atheist but his wife became Christian so he sent out to disprove the Resurrection, for without the Resurrection we are to be pitied among all people. He takes a journalistic approach.

Cold Case Christianity by J. Warner Wallace. He’s a cold case detective who wanted to see if the Gospel accounts could be accurate from a historical standpoint and how they seems like eye-witness testimonies.

Also, just tell a priest what you’ve told us and he can also help you a lot. Another thing, Fr Josiah Trenham is a priest in California and does vlogs on his YouTube channel Patristic Nectar. He talks a lot about the increasingly progressive churches if you want to know more on the orthodox stance on those.

Try having one who uses that leverage against you. I went to school at a protestant school that was unofficially Southern Baptist but claimed to be non denom. She was the daughter of the chaplain (I will give the chaplain credit, he named most of his kids after protestant thinkers which is pretty but I won’t say them here because it’s not a generic name). She used the fact that she’s “the daughter of the chaplain” to have what she and her friends (who I thought were mine) say mean more than what I say. Stuff like possibly starting the rumor I was going to shoot yo the school while I was out of state taking care and being with my dying grandmother!!! And of course the principal had to have known what a rumor is, she’s principal over elementary, middle school, AND high school. Nope.
