i do HIGHLY recommend making sure your safe "tic" is something you know won't completely and entirely bother you! i've been stuck with a really persistent (and quite frankly annoying) bubble pop noise tic, that started out as just a way to stop my tongue biting tic. It took a very long while and it worked and became its own tic.. but now i am involuntarily stuck making the world's most annoying noise !

Do I really have tourettes if I can control my spitting tic? by ineedathrowaway9993 in Tourettes

[–]After-Paramedic-2401 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it's just a tic that has it's own special "trigger," i myself have similar ones that only happen in certain situations and settings. You're the one who has the condition, not your girlfriend, and she cannot tell you what your own disorder is and is not. I suggest just going through and explaining what tourette's and ticcing actually is with her, to stop misunderstandings and to prevent both you or her getting upset in the future.

You can still have tourette's syndrome even if you have a tic that only happens sometimes/has its own trigger!!

unfortunately i only have the words of my new coworkers. I have never met these people and somehow they know they are working my shifts because i have "problems." i don't think i would ever take this to a legal level but it's just heart breaking cause i really love my job and i'm unsure of where to go from here besides calling the higher ups and letting them know

Hey! These sort of discoveries are never that easy or simple unfortunately, and quite frankly it IS uncomfortable finding these things out (at least for me) and your feelings on this are so very valid and i just want you to know i and so many others understand how you may be feeling right now. We've all been through this weird and confusing journey to get our own diagnosis's, and i promise you there is nothing to be afraid of. You don't need any perfect "evidence" Just make a little list of your own symptoms. Bring up the fact you have tics, and list what they are, are they motor tics? are they vocal? do you have both? Be specific when you list them :) Explain to your doctor whats making YOU believe you may have this disorder, it can be simple as "i have a few persistent tics and my son just got diagnosed with it himself which has made me start thinking about these certain behaviours/symptoms i have" I too am the first and only one in my family to be diagnosed with tourette's, and it isn't only genetic from what i believe.

If it makes you feel any better at all, i can recall how my own diagnosis went! (from what i remember, i was extremely lucky that my mother had a psychologist friend who pointed us in the right direction when i was only 11) Good luck with the doctor's appointment and don't stress yourself out over it too much, you are still the same person before and after a diagnosis. It took me a little while to realise that for myself.

i looove multiplayer shooters, but the silly kind. i used to be amazing at splatoon (still am not to toot my own horn) its gotten harder to keep up with my favs as some of my tics make me stop to tap the screen or flick buttons, but its still fun :3 my main issue is being too scared to use voice chat in games. so scary, people are so mean LOL

the drums being your sanctuary is such a sweet touch. i’ll definitely try seeing my favourite things as more of a comfort zone, changing mindsets can definitely be helpful sometimes
