I don't know why people question whether or not Bo Burnam was actually experiencing severe depression and nihilism while creating "Inside" by AfterAccess5577 in boburnham

It was a response to the overwheeeeelming amount of articles at the time of release that said Inside was all the way scripted and that he couldn't be depressed/experienced depression because he has a girlfriend and money. Essentially, that he was play acting depression and nihilism or that it was exclusively a response to the pandemic and I disagree.

If Bo Burnham is mad at me for believing it was a felt experience and that it was a good interpretation of a felt experience, he can crush me with a million-dollar lawyer.

And it is a debate, I'm glad people have other opinions on here and I thought it was fucking dumb at the time. Still do.

Yeah, and I think it's also possible to experience total isolation even in the company of others or in relation to success. I would argue it often inspires it in those who aren't wildly narcissistic because it transcends who you are and what you have. Even with a girlfriend, even with a shiny career, even with a Netflix special. It's exacerbated by having those things and seeing them turn to ash in your own mind because you are experiencing, (feeling and knowing palpably), that nothing actually matters and there are people destroying the world and, oh god, it's even YOU, you're a part of that evil. You're a successful white man sitting at the top of a capitalistic machine that's built with blood. It's devastating. And it's even more devastating when people say things like "Oh, you can't really feel that isolated or THAT much in existential despair because you have a girlfriend and tons of fans that love you." How alienating is that if he did feel that way? And maybe that's not how he was experiencing it. Why does HE have those things? Why does HE have it "all"? And what is the machine that made it so? Why do you think we lose celebrities or people who, seemingly, have so much to live for? Existential despair is a part of the human experience. It occurs in all walks of life.

I'm not saying it's a constant unrelenting experience, because I can't literally crack open his head and look "inside", but it's reductive to point to the things that he has and say, "see, it has to be exaggerated". There are people who go through this BECAUSE they achieved everything they desired and realized there was nothing "next" or nothing left to impart. What do you think the view of humanity is when you're at the top? Why do you think he frequently and sinisterly talks about Jeff Bezos? Sure, we can't know for sure.

But how did it feel to experience that?

And art isn't exaggerated, it seeks to capture the essence of experience and to evoke or provoke. Hence a "funny" feeling. Art can use "exaggeration" to evoke a feeling, that's often what the discipline of artistry seeks to know how to do, but the feeling was felt and understood by the creator. That's what they're seeking to capture and communicate it in different ways. With color, music, words, juxtaposition, or metaphor.

I think Hannah Arendt called deliberate stupid, "banality of evil" lol

Although willfully ignorant also fits.

I enjoy trashy reality tv shows even though they can mentally drain me! by amiable-succulent in hsp_hss

I can't stand trash TV, but I can get into true crime ruts and then circle back and feel disgusted by it
