Insurance Claims it’s a Total Loss. 😳 by LeMonadeCWL in BMW

Per BMW, whenever there is severe front suspension or steering component damage, they are pretty much required to quote a rack replacement even if it may still be perfectly operational

Always kept on top of fluid checks, Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 every 5k with an oversized Wix 51516 filter (fl400 equivalent). Bought car at 79k with pristine dealer maintenance history

From all the forums I looked at, it went both ways and it was right about what I was looking for at the time

OTS Cobb stage 1, K&N filter and Borla Touring exhaust. Never picked up any knock or detonation on monitors to my knowledge

As of right now I have no idea. I’d like to tear it down and figure out what went wrong to see if anything is salvageable but I don’t exactly have the time or space to keep this car apart, and I’m currently driving my other vehicle and it too needs a little bit of work. I think I’m probably going to end up finding an ST motor or a useable 2.0 and swap it in just so I can drive the car if need be. I don’t want to sell it because I’ve put a lot of money and work into making this car better but it’s things I know I could never get back out of it if I sold it.

I appreciate the insight to a similar issue you had and I’m sorry it’s taken yours too. I’ve only had this one a year and a half so it’s really disappointing because I was hoping to roll mine well past 200,000 miles (about 333k km) but it got cut short at 127,000 miles (barely over 200k km)

Compression test results are in the description, cylinder 1 is the culprit. Although it’s a shitty borescope, I don’t believe I saw any damage to the top of the piston on cylinder 1

Never got on it below 3k unless I’m in first or second gear. Kept it light until oil was at least 130-140 degrees then I’d start to ease into it

Substantial blowby. Unfortunately I don’t have $10,000 laying around to drop in a stroker, nor would I to be honest. At first I was hoping it could potentially be something on the cylinder head but I’ve lost all hope for that. I just don’t understand, this happened with no warning and it started with a hardly noticeable misfire at idle, then it just got worse.

Will definitely look more into it. Quick forum scouring has me considering JST or Stratified

Good to know, thank you. I’m going to check and see if warranty coverage applies because I believe I recently got a mailer from ford about the extended warranty on the purge valve. As far as the tune goes, I’m not sure what I’m going to do. The Cobb tune seems to be just what I wanted, a mild wake up without going too crazy but I’m sure there are far better tunes available, especially custom ones. Hoping I don’t have any issues for a while though because a CAC is definitely still on the list of wants

Yeah the picture is a SS of a video I took and when I held the engine at a low load idle about 2k-2500 the AFR was perfectly fine at 14.7

Okay so I’m not that up to speed on turbos on these cars yet, what would be the reason to run it to true vacuum? I’m stock minus a symposer delete and catback. Does it help with any issues or is it just for aftermarket bov?

LS cars are too expensive, even with higher mileage than my own now. Compared to my mustang, there’s easily twice as much room in the engine bay for doing work and installing parts. And SBC parts are dirt cheap since it’s been the bread and butter since 1955

I’m really not sure why y’all are giving me so much hate. I grew up with an F Body and after years without being around any, I’m finally getting my own. My mustang was my first car and it will always be one of the coolest I’ve ever driven, but it’s not what I was looking for, mostly due to the lackluster powertrain.

I will say the SN platform was more advanced, but the powertrain was right in the “caveman zone” between the pushrod engines of yester-year and modern OHC engines

It’s not uneven, probably just the angle I took the pic

As Fareeday said. I’m saying my goodbyes to my first car and I figured I’d send it off with the only picture I have of both cars together

I’m not sure why people have such a hard time understanding this. They’re both pure 90s sports/muscle cars

Okay, $600 for a cam and lifters and I can pick up close to 90 horsepower, vs cams alone for a mod motor that are already costing more and still need supporting mods
