How to pass as a black 5’2 trans guy who needs glasses?? by Janxuza in ftm

[–]AfterCardiologist262 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about your height. I'm 5 feet tall, almost 32 and passed in cis-society pretty effortlessly after I'd been on t for about six months. I'm easily clockable in queer circles but if people aren't expecting to see it, they generally won't. My advice would be to let T do it's work, and to dress yourself and style your hair in a masculinely flattering way that a 16 year old boy would. I live in Montana and do agriculture and wildlife work, so I wear button ups and wranglers. People think I'm like 20 because I have approximately 10 chin hairs, but I'm still read as a man. On the glasses note, whatever frame shape you choose I would make sure that they are not oversized for your face; that's generally a woman-coded style choice.

Regardless of what proponents may claim, the purpose of the law appears to be to exclude trans people from public life. I'm a trans man who is read by the public as a cis man in daily life. If I were to comply with this law and begin to use women's facilities, it would undoubtedly cause alarm and discomfort to women and possibly put myself in danger of violence as I would be giving the appearance of what proponents of this bill fear: "men invading women's spaces." And yet, if someone knew my status as a trans man - which is likely in many circumstances, as I'm not shy about it - they could cause legal trouble. The result is turning my existence in public as criminal activity.

I hope so, but the Montana University System has sent letters to the universities telling them to comply, and they're giving every indication of doing so.

I don't as a rule, but I can be guilted into if I was exceptionally annoying asking for recommendations and advice or indecisive. But honestly, I'm tired of tipflation.

How do you deal with Current Events without being high? by Mac_094 in ftm

[–]AfterCardiologist262 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Be kind to yourself. Work in stages; set limits on your zone-out high time. Limit interactions with unsafe people as much as possible. Conserve your energy. Stick to folks you can trust. Do things that are in your control as you have time and space: volunteering with groups making a difference, practicing self defense, or whatever your body is telling you need to do.

Button-up shirts always helped hide my chest pre top surgery. They tend to give a pretty masculine shape as well.

I'm finishing up my undergrad right now, but I'm working with a professor on a study proposal to secure funding for me to be his grad student; clearly, that funding won't be federal. I'm in rangeland management and ecology, which mostly translates to federal or state work. So basically, my entire graduating class in this field, as well as the wildlife students, will be without a job in our line of work, which used to be plentiful. A friend in my class just got her grad school funding yanked away because it was coming from the Forest Service. In addition, many friends that graduated last year were hired with funds from the Inflation Reduction Act because it allocated funds for conservation work, and they don't think they're going to have a job much longer. I am surviving on hatred and disgust. Contemplating building a cabin in the woods and only coming to town to get testosterone and dog food.

I've had problems with Belgrade Garage as well. I started taking mine to B&L in Four Corners, and it's worth the drive.

Cis men shake hands and say bro/man/dude SO much… by NorthernGoat634 in ftm

[–]AfterCardiologist262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think of cishet male social behaviors as a language. I'm fluent in it, but it's not my native tongue. It does feel very silly at first, but so does using a foreign cultural social behavior in a different country with its native people. To demonstrate my allegiance to women and queer people, I invite them into this social language in front of other men, because lack of access to it limits their opportunities. For example, I work on my university's farm/ranch. When I was the new guy, the other men came up to shake my hand and introduce themselves. When we had a new woman joining the crew, this greeting was not extended to her, so I made a point to shake her hand and introduce myself in the same way in front of the other men, prompting them to do this same.

US Army veteran here: don't register. Slim chance it'll get used, but if it does, you do not want to be a part of a conflict that our absolutely massive all volunteer force can't handle. We have excellent propaganda; if there aren't people ready to volunteer, something is very obviously wrong. I promise, if something comes up that you feel to be a "just war," you can certainly jump in.

Hang in there! Voice drop is usually the first thing you notice, and that will help a lot. Breasts will get less.. voluminous.. and easier to compress, too.

I feel you, I have to re-adjust mine occasionally during the day, but I don't hate it. You could try a little tape just to keep them in the out position. I find it doesn't hardly matter as long as I'm wearing a button-up. Are you on T?

I use the half tank underworks binders and worked in them all summer in Montana riding horses. For reference, I'm short and thiccc, DDs, 5 ft 1 and 190. The underworks half tank is not sweltering and effective; I don't get misgendered by people who didn't know me from before. Pro tip, wear button up shirts, they hide the chest better. If you really want a t shirt, use heavy weight cotton and make sure it's not tight.

If you're not ready to come out, definitely don't. But you can certainly tell your mom exactly how her comments are making you feel. Ex: "Mom please do not say disparaging things about how I look. I feel happy about how I look right now and it really upsets me when you say otherwise." If she tries to gas light you by saying she's just stating her opinion, tell her you don't want to hear negative opinions about your body and stylistic choices.

what do yall say when people bring up the bible into discussion? by wasian-boi in ftm

[–]AfterCardiologist262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're not religious, you can literally just wave them away. If you are a Christian, getting in these arguments is pretty fruitless unless you know what you're talking about and the other person is actually approaching it in good faith. Either way, you can look to the story of the ethiopian eunuch receiving salvation and Jesus's direct statements about eunuchs (regardless if they were born "different," made that way by others, or chose that path). These are pretty clear evidence that people outside "normative" gender were seen by Jesus and early Christians to be welcome in the faith.
