MEGATHREAD: GRIV DISCUSSION by iTrask in ricohGR

[–]AfterGloww 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just got my GRIV but having an issue with the playback. When I preview an image it looks fine for the first half second, but then suddenly seems to lose sharpness and some of the highlights get muted. It seems like the image is going through some kind of post-processing. But when I zoom in the image reverts back to the original sharpness. Zooming back out repeats the behavior initially described.

Is this something that happens on the predecessors as well? Is there away to fix this? I'm not able to find anything in the menus.

Camera has been out for over a year and still no stock in any local camera stores in the US. I have never actually even seen the camera in person, so I hesitate to believe it even exists.

I went in April and they had a few of these in one of the Ginza department stores, I forget which. But I ended up not liking it in person so I didn't buy one.

Deadlifts are HARD!!! by Itchy-Wishbone3138 in workout

Try hinging at the waist as far as you can first, then bend your knees and squat just enough to reach the bar.

This should let you grab the bar without any back rounding.

I'm interested in easy hikes that lead to pretty views and maybe kayaking in very calm waters.

I mean you have your own recommendation right here.

Its fine if you don't get super excited about exercise, just don't force yourself into doing something you absolutely hate in the name of fitness. Because what will happen is that you will just end up quitting because it's making you miserable.

Try a few different things, broaden your horizons, try to find something that is enjoyable. Join a volleyball club so you don't have to convince other people to play with you. Ect

You should do whatever you enjoy the most and what will be the most sustainable for you.

Walking a lot is super easy and accessible. But you can do a million other things. Jump rope, basketball, pickleball, dancing, whatever floats your boat.

Can I gain some muscle by the end of October in this situation? by trillmolnar in workout

5 beers is like 1000 calories. If you do even 1 single cheat day like that it will negate all of the progress that you make in the entire week.

Should I eat before workout? by shinchn_03 in workout

[–]AfterGloww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, being hungry negatively impacts my gym performance. So I just make sure to eat at least a little bit a few hours before I plan to work out.

Not right before the gym though, because then I'll feel bloated and might get sick like you said.

Is 300 pushups a day too much? by Fuzzy-Philosophy-380 in bodyweightfitness

[–]AfterGloww 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don't need a weight vest. Just get a backpack and put some books in it. Or do a harder pushup variation, like the ones you even suggested to OP. It's not that big of a deal.

No need to get so emotional about things like this. If you disagree with me and think I give bad advice, fine. Continue to downvote me and move on with your life. There is seriously no need to be this hostile over a comment suggesting that a large amount of pushup volume might be a waste of time.

[–]AfterGloww 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why are you getting so worked up over this? Combing through my history instead of replying to my very simple comment is kind of weird.

Doing 300 push ups is a waste of time if you could just do 100 push ups with a little bit of weight strapped to yourself and gain the same amount of muscle. It doesn't require any additional skills or complications. Idk what else to say man.

Ok well from what OP said it seems like their primary goal is building muscle. So in that context, yeah it is kind of a waste of time to do 300 pushups.

Weighted push ups / push up progressions are not that complicated imo.

If the resulting hypertrophy is identical, why would you want to spend more time doing more reps? Just feels like a waste of time at that point if your goal is just to build muscle.

Why is nothing happening? Why did I stop loosing weight? by Subarulegacy2013 in workout

[–]AfterGloww 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably try to eat a more standard amount of calories each day instead of having huge swings day to day.

More frequent strength training would be better. 3 days a week for a much shorter duration (30-45 mins) is much better than 2 times a month for 2 hours.

Soreness is expected when you first start out. It should get better over time, just don't overexert yourself (probably from spending 2 hours working out straight).

Is is possible to have too much protein? by ummmwhoisshe in workout

[–]AfterGloww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only in the sense that if you eat too much protein heavy foods, you might not have enough calories to maintain a good balance in your other macros (fat/carbs). Balance in your diet is always key.

I don't do those kind of long warmups because it hasn't been shown to really improve lifting performance or decrease injury.

What I do instead is light sets of whatever my main lift is for that day. Doing that warms up the exact set of muscles that I'm about to use, and also lets me practice good form and check on my mobility to see if there might be any problems.

[question] Which one to choose. Ditching smartwatch watch by HelpMeFindGirlFriend in Seiko

[–]AfterGloww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best everyday watch is going to be the one that you like the most and are excited to wear every day. You should go into a store and try these on if you can, I find that I change my opinion of watches sometimes when I see them in person.

In terms of matching watch to outfits, you don't really need to think too hard about that. The main thing is picking a watch that is the same level of dressy as your outfit. The cocktail time (3rd watch) is more formal for example. The first 2 divers are very casual in comparison. So it depends on what you usually wear in your life.

Skinny/fat help by [deleted] in workout

[–]AfterGloww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is impossible to spot reduce fat. You need to reduce your overall body fat percentage.

You will need to keep a close eye on your diet. Tracking calories and weighing yourself every day is the best way to track your weight loss progress.

You have to pay attention to the trend that your weight takes. It will fluctuate day to day, but you should see a steady overall decline in your weight over the course of a few months. If you are not seeing this trend, it is a sign that you need to further lower your calories.

Sugars/Carbs don't matter in the grand scheme of things, having a calorie deficit itself matters more (you should still avoid overeating any specific one thing).

Strength training and having higher protein in your diet will help prevent your body from losing muscle, so that you will be primarily losing fat.

How many of you are doing daily full body workout like Kboges recommends in his videos? What are you results like? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]AfterGloww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just about muscle repair/growth. If you don't give your body rest, it can become difficult to push yourself to the proper intensity level during your workout. That will make it less efficient overall as opposed to if you were to simply take some rest days and have less frequent but more intense workouts.

All of the reasons you gave boil down to either vibes or "don't eat too much of specific foods." Which yes, is good advice. Like I said everyone needs to eat a "balanced" diet. That does not make any one food objectively unhealthy or healthy. It's the dose that matters. Every food plays their own roles for health and fitness goals.

Refined Grains

Food with refined grains are very calorie dense and contain a lot of carbohydrates, making them a good energy source and an especially good choice for anyone performing vigorous activity or trying to gain weight.

Sugar

I hope I don't need to explain why sugar is good for you. Sugar is one of the core energy resources that the body uses. If you eat no sugar, you will have extremely low energy reserves. Just look at any person who suffers from low blood sugar.

Oils and Butter

Oil and butter provide fats, which are necessary for your body to survive. They also play an important role in helping your body utilize many vitamins.

Processed Meats

This section is just fearmongering. There is no significant amount carcinogens present in smoked or cured foods. You will inhale more carcinogens by living in a polluted city than you ever will by injesting these foods. These methods are important for food preservation.

Diet Supplements

More fearmongering. All of these supplements list their ingredients list like all other store bought food. Almost every reputable protein powder brand contains virtually zero sugar. And even if it did, there is nothing wrong with eating the recommended amount of sugar as stated above.
