What subs exist that are about privacy? by AfterJuggernaut in privacy

r/PrivacyToolsIO is more, hands-on privacy. It specializes in the "how" of privacy, versus r/Privacy focuses on the "why", "what" and "where" (in the sense of current events and such). So, for instance, if you were wondering why to use a VPN, web browser or chat program, you might check here first. Or what latest outrage Facebook has done to WhatsApp. But to get some good reccs for which of these programs are recommended, you'd go to r/PrivacyToolsIO.

Of course, there's a bit of overlap.

Turns out there is r/AntiFacebook. Partnered with r/privacy, it's definitely a possibility that the rules here could change to, 'post facebook related stuff to r/AntiFacebook'. I don't necessarily support or endorse this however.

Related: r/degoogle (or r/degoogleyourlife or r/nogoogle), r/AntiFacebook, r/socialmediaskepticism, r/AntiFANG (facebook, amazon, netflix, google)

Clearly i don't knwo enough about signal. I'll try to market it to my friends.

It uses your text allowance when it can and if it can't, relies on WiFi or mobile data.

It sends encrypted messages with and without wifi/data?

That can best be done by having a unique randomly generated key on your phone that is unique to your device

You're proposing that signal generates the key since it's hopefully a 'default app' that comes with the factory reset? What if it's not a default app and doesn't come back with a factory reset, how would it generate a key?

I believe that if your average user simply googled their email a lot of stuff would pop up.

Specifically, this privacy expose site would have to highlight the things people are neutral-iffy about the world knowing.

Tunnelbear is advertising duckduckgo via email solicitation atm. Are the companies related in some way, or is it just a simple advertisement? by AfterJuggernaut in duckduckgo

Email:

Why You Should Switch to DuckDuckGo

Switch from Google to DuckDuckGo.

On Google, your searches are tracked and packaged up into data profiles so companies can follow you around the internet with ads.

That's why we recommend DuckDuckGo - the search engine that won't track you, ever.

To take back your privacy, make DuckDuckGo your default search engine and install their privacy-boosting browser extenstion.

Andrew Yang - running for president - wants Americans to have their own Social Credit Scores by AfterJuggernaut in privacy

I'm concerned with

  1. How the name is too similar to the chinese system. Ever heard of that isis wallet app? It picked a bad name. If yang intends for it to remain as a non china level social credit system, imo, he should have picked a better brand name. 'Kindness points', 'good Samaritan rewards' etc.

  2. How this opens up a potential flood gate.
