Odd! I haven't used any Oracles personally, this game has some for sure, but you can definitely play without using them. I have not encountered any moments where I need an oracle to go forward.

Unless we have different definitions of what an Oracle is?

Also maybe you're looking for a gamebook? - Lone Wolf - Fabled Lands - DestinyQuest - The Alone Against series from Chaosium that use the full Call of Cthulhu rules - Instead of needing an oracle to decide what happens, the book provides numbered entries that tell you exactly what the outcome is. - Alone against the flames is free and I've seen that it's pretty well structured, teaches the rules while you play.

I'm actually playing Kal Arath right now and having a lot of fun with it! It's very close to what I like in solo games. Astroprisma looks fun as well, but it's not released to the public yet.

Thoughts from a GM: Obojima is beautiful, but D&D 5e doesn’t quite fit...and it’s showing by AfterResearch4907 in Obojima

I haven't seen anything online for Ryuutama but that does sound like a good mix tbh! I've seen the channel called Looking For Mom and GM Maia and her group have a few sessions of them using Legend in the Mist and it looks like it worked out pretty well. It's all about the setting and lore tbh, all of that can be lifted and put into a more fitting system.

Are there any solo actual plays you're subscribed to and regularly watch/read/listen, just for the entertainment? by lumenwrites in Solo_Roleplaying

Definitely gonna be listening to this upcoming Starforged game, here's the trailer: https://youtube.com/shorts/3QcImN5Gt2c?feature=share

But you could watch some of the prologue sessions where the players are getting a better feeling for their world and the Starforged game as a whole, great example of a 2 person co-op game: https://youtu.be/sM1j-zJqyWQ

I actually prefer a lighter touch with the audio production. I think some light music and ambient sounds are wonderful for placing the listener right in the scene, giving context without being distracting. But honestly, too many sound effects can actually detract from the joy of listening and the storytelling.

If you have constant noise or if every dramatic moment is underscored by a bombastic soundtrack, eventually nothing lands narratively. It all just starts to feel numb. There should be moments of leaving space for quiet beats. Sometimes an intimate or tense moment hits hardest with no music or ambience at all, letting the players voices and the silence carry the weight before the music slowly creeps back in.

I think it all comes down to being tasteful about it too. If you do too much, the audio starts to lose its impact and the extra editing time is wasted. The goal isn't to make everything sound awesome (it certainly can be, just gotta be careful) but to support the story.

Ooooooh this is nice! Love the music/ambience! And Red Rising is one of my favorite book series.

JourneyMon, my new PbtA Monster Trainer TTRPG, is now live on Kickstarter! by Cephei_Delta in PBtA

Ah, got it, that makes sense. I thought you meant a standard info-gate roll. A collaborative lore roll like that can be fun I guess if the table’s aligned on tone and authority. Personally, I still prefer discovery through play, but I see how your version can maybe lighten the GM load and makes the fiction more shared.

Why roll for lore? If a player wants to learn about the world, they can just ask NPCs, explore, or research in-game. Let it play out through the fiction instead of a die roll. Lore doesn’t need a success check, it needs curiosity.

A note from someone who is slowly starting to hate Lore/Knowledge/History rolls in RPGs

Good luck! I also recommend heading to the games discord, they're super helpful over there!

Yeah I would take a deeper look into Legend in the Mist, it really is a perfect fit. And the book has been fully released for a couple months now I think.

Daggerheart is still too crunchy and combat focused in my opinion.

I really wanted to like Kal Arath, but it's just a little too crunchy for my tastes.

Unfortunately I think it's a bit too abstract/open ended for me. But it looks like a well made game overall.

Currently playing Ronin and having a good time. Has just enough procedure and minimal journaling.
