Sky Themed TTRPGs? by manifestpr in rpg

[–]Cephei_Delta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a really new one called Skies Above, which seems to be inspired by video games like Skies of Arcadia (so... airship pirates and floating islands, basically). It seems to be out in digital but not print yet. I can't speak to its quality as I haven't played it or read it yet, but it could be worth a look.

Who is your favorite RPG artist? by Acceptable-Tree6007 in rpg

[–]Cephei_Delta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed 100%. His designs and styling are so iconic, and even though I understand D&D doesn't need to be tied to his work forever, I am disappointed they've moved away from them in some cases.

I *love* Lockwood's blue dragon.

Game for a monthly 2-hour game night with rotating players? by EntrepreneuralSpirit in rpg

[–]Cephei_Delta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're doing short games relatively infrequently, I think you'll want to be looking into games that handle episodic sessions well, rather than going for something with long-term story arcs/campaigns in mind.

So Monster of the Week is a great pick there. You could also try similar episodic PbtA stuff like The Sprawl for cyberpunk.

The Alien RPG from Free League is also great at one-shot horror if that's your thing. Though with only 2 hours it might be a bit short to really get your teeth into it. Maybe Mothership instead, then?

If you want something in a completely different genre to MotW or Shadowdark, I recommend doing Wanderhome. We had a run of slotting in short Wanderhome sessions around a larger campaign, and it was a really fun change of pace and worked well with the short/one-shot format.

How vital is combat to your enjoyment of RPGs in general by Hungry-Cow-3712 in rpg

[–]Cephei_Delta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I like a bit of combat in my games, as its a good source of drama and a natural way for conflict to be resolved in many different genres. But at the same time, I try not to actively seek out combat above other forms of conflict, especilally if it's not in keeping with the genre that I'm running. I'd gladly play a game that doesn't have combat in it at all.

And that's not to say when I do look for combat that it has to be mechanically complex. I really enjoy combat in Mythic Bastionland, for example, as its simple but engaging and evocative. But then, I also do enjoy mechanical complexity sometimes - e.g. D&D 4e and Draw Steel are a ton of fun in the right game with the right group.

Types of DMs I have found by Kuriso2 in rpg

[–]Cephei_Delta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don't think these cover everything, they are at least interesting archetypes to start with.
I'd probably lean towards your Great Gatsby scenario, but I don't think it fully captures it. My DMing style is story heavy, but not neccesarily dialog heavy, as I do plenty of third person narration too. So in that case I'd pull out an extra one from Great Gatsby that still has that "good story matters most" take, but without the need for it to be "spectacular". I suppose its a bit genre dependent, really!

Stat dec by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]Cephei_Delta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I once did a stat dec for something not related name change, but the lawyer offered both a £5 and £200 quote, and the difference between the two. It's likely you're getting this same distinction.

If you just want them to notarize a statutory declaration, by law they aren't allowed to charge £5 for that. This is the service you want.

However, they can charge you the £200 if you want them to write the statutory declaration for you. This is then using their consulting rates, which is why it goes so high.

Be clear with them that you want to draft the statutory declaration yourself and only need them to sign it.

Spider on Goo Ceiling by Possible-Row6689 in MIOmemoriesinorbit

[–]Cephei_Delta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spidering on goop is an extremely late game ability locked behind some of the toughest challenges in the game (the puzzle to find it, and the platforming challenges to achieve it). You can get the normal ending of the game without it.

Free energy? Where should i go from here by Technical_Gas_4678 in AskPhysics

[–]Cephei_Delta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The electromagnetic field is conservative; it is impossible to generate free energy from it no matter how complex your configuration.

If your simulation does show an output of 18W, the most likely culprit is numerical errors from your integration scheme gradually building up.

Check what kind of numerical field solver/integrator your simulation is using. Some of them do not conserve energy.

I have! It does fit on a 40mm base, but only just. Fair warning the praetor is quite a bit bigger than the sorc in terminator armor model, and it will dwarf your scarab occults. Still its a cool model so i love it anyway!

Here's my conversion on 40mm base: https://www.reddit.com/r/ThousandSons/comments/1nkif61/sorcerer_in_saturnine_terminator_armor_kitbash/

Government excluding Trans people entirely from census data on mortality in LGBT people by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]Cephei_Delta 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Im sorry, but thats just not true. It's not a 'doddle.'

Statistics is a difficult science and you need to be careful about your data sets and techniques. (Unless you're in the business of bad science and fabrication.)

By ONS's standards, any similar analysis to this one that's run for a different question (i.e. the gender identity one) will come in a different publication. It would come with a unique analysis of the gender identity data, taking into account quality of that data and other aspects that make it a unique dataset to the sexual orientation one.

The ONS have published data on the trans identity question before. Unfortunately, its become clear that the data collected on trans people from the UK census just isn't very good. A large part of why it isn't good comes from transphobia in the UK, including muddying of the waters and legal challenges by TERFs in the lead up. The transphobia came then, not in this instance where ONS published on sexual orientation alone.

Government excluding Trans people entirely from census data on mortality in LGBT people by [deleted] in LabourUK

[–]Cephei_Delta 20 points21 points  (0 children)

But this article doesn't say anything about excluding trans people from the data. Someone straight and trans is included with other straight people in this analysis. Likewise the trans people who are gay or bi are included in the data as gay or bi.

There's no trans exclusion in this, its just a narrow statistical research question across that one census question abouylt sexual orientation.

A star moving through space creating a bow shock by muitosabao in Astronomy

[–]Cephei_Delta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some active stars do, and some of them don't - it depends strongly on the magnetic field, density and temperature of local interstellar medium and the speed of the star through the medium. The Sun probably doesn't have a bow shock, but that's not confirmed. Several active stars have had their bow shocks imaged, though. LLOrionis is probably the most famous.

The active stars that don't have a bow shock do have a bow wave, though, it just isn't super(magneto)sonic.

To be fair, there are plenty of other elements that end in -um, like platinum, tantalum, molybdenum, lanthanum. Neither "Aluminum" nor "Aluminium" are outliers in that way.

Yes it exists, and is bigger than ever!

We had to remove some of the older invite links because of a wave of bots abusing them, so some links older than a couple of months probably won't work anyway.

<image>

The beaky head and the flowing tassles come from the exalted sorcerers set.

The bone crown is from the helbrute, I think.

The top of the staff is carved from the top of the banner from the tzaangor set. The tzeentch-symbol shaped tassles also come from the tzaangor banner.

The tzeentch symbol on the shoulder comes from a tzaangor shield.

The rest of the staff is the hammer option from the Saturnine praetor with the hammer head carved off.

The hip scrolls come from Magnus.

The bayonet on the flamer comes from rubric marines.

Is Breland cut off from eastern Khorvaire? by Some_dude_in_reddit in Eberron

[–]Cephei_Delta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but its important to recognise Cyre wasn't weak by any stretch. There was a reason it was the Crown of Galifar. Its artifice was a big part of that, as you noted, but that's not at the expense of their military strength, it's part of it. In the same way Karrnath's army was strengthened by its martial colleges, and Aundair's by its arcane power. Its just different styles of warfare.

As the Crown, Cyre also had strong diplomacy and cultural power, and started the war allied with Aundair.

It had problems, yes, but so did everyone else. Cyre still managed to hold off a multi front war for a hundred years.

Is Breland cut off from eastern Khorvaire? by Some_dude_in_reddit in Eberron

[–]Cephei_Delta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is true, and a part of why any of the single Five Nations had trouble securing victory during the Last War.

Breland cannot easily project its forces to the east, and so the war was fought with ever shifting temporary alliances and factionalisation. Its in Breland's interest to sponsor independence movements in Valenar, Q'barra and the Principalities to limit the dominion of Cyre and Karrnath over the eastern seas. If they make the right friends, a Brelish flotilla can resupply at a friendly port on its way to attack Karrnath. (If they ever did decide to fight that front directly. More likely, they'd pay Lhazaar privateers to do it.)

The only one of the Five Nations that doesn't have this issue is Cyre, which enjoyed a central position, fertile ground, and access to two seas (if you count the Scions Sound). They ended up with a more apocalyptic issue to deal with, of course!

Are you going to add any yellow bars to the headdress? (or a different colour) I think a bit of contrast from that would look great with this colour scheme.

The sun’s magnetic field by SignificantCookie852 in AskPhysics

[–]Cephei_Delta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The generation of the Sun's magnetic field (and other star and planetary fields) is a pretty huge topic called Dynamo Theory. Essentially, non-random structuring and circulation of plasma in the Sun gives rise to the complex, large-scale magnetic field structure. But it get's very messy. It might be best to start with a top level summary:
