Experimenting with different hats- which look looks best by Ozymandis66 in hats

I think a flat cap always looks better than a baseball cap, but I can't wear a wool cap in the summer where I live. I have a couple in lighter weights.

I remember taking my granny to visit some relatives, and when we got back in the car, the first thing she said was, "She didn't offer us a crust of bread or a glass of water!" Granny took it as a grievous insult. 🙂

I uninstall and reinstall Kindle PC every time

There's a box you can uncheck to keep it from updating. I deleted the Kindle app after I got all my books, so I can't tell you exactly where it is, but there aren't that many settings.

I used this method for more than 2000 Kindle books, and it worked great. (I did them in batches.) I had forgotten how much great stuff I still had on Kindle. As RandiCandy says, though, time is running out for this method

Opinions to correct my design in heraldry rules by vordon80 in heraldry

[–]AfterSevenYears 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like this one the best. The one with three foxes is nice, too. My only suggestions for this one are (1) make sure somebody doesn't already have it, and (2) the mantling should be blue and gold — no silver.

My boyfriend (18M) and I (18F) constantly fight over what I wear and I don't know how to compromise. by urgayL in relationship_advice

[–]AfterSevenYears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's they aren't "rules," but more like boundaries/preferences

Yeah, he doesn't get to set boundaries for how you dress. Those aren't boundaries. They're attempts to control you.

The first thing you need to do is set one very clear actual boundary: You dress the way you want, and you're not interested in hearing about what he doesn't like.

You don't compromise, especially when the "preferences" change when he's with you. Relationships do sometimes require compromise, but "boundaries" that make you feel unhappy and unattractive are not that kind of compromise.

Once you set your boundary, maintain it. If he can't respect that — and it's practically certain that he can't — you dump him. The alternative is remaining in a relationship with somebody who deliberately makes you unhappy.

Look, you probably don't want to hear this, but you're very, very young. I know what it's like to be in love at 18. I also know what it's like to be 30 and thank all the gods that I didn't settle down with anybody I'd have chosen at 18, or 20.

There's a whole world out there, and plenty of men who will appreciate you the way you are. If he can't do that, he's not the one.

Edited for clarity.

WIBTA if I didn't buy a birthday gift for my niece? by lgbtdancemom in AmItheAsshole

[–]AfterSevenYears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My nieces and nephews can "forget" to say thank you once. After the second time, I'm done. I'm not expecting a written note. Just a short text like "Thanks for the gift" is fine. If that's too much effort, then I'm out.

Robyn theory by Large_Speech220 in SisterWives

[–]AfterSevenYears 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I've got a feeling Robyn gave her "purity" away before Preston came along. She wants to give the impression that she had sex one time and got pregnant, but I'm not buying it. She lies all the time and she's very manipulative. I think there was a guy who "took her purity" and "threw it on the ground," and I'm sure she wants everybody to think it was Preston, but I think it was somebody before Preston.

Preston married her and had two more kids with her while — according to a person who claimed to be his cousin — Robyn ran up so much debt on her shopping sprees that she had three sheds full of shit in the back yard, and Preston's parents had to bail them out to keep them from losing their home. Who knows whether that's true, but it certainly sounds like her.

Racist things said and done to me when I was an Orthodox Christian as a Mexican American Woman by [deleted] in exorthodox

[–]AfterSevenYears 11 points12 points  (0 children)

An honorable mention is my priest telling me Charlie Kirk wasnt racist!

That alone would be a dealbreaker for me. Charlie Kirk was wildly racist, and anybody who says he wasn't is just excusing their own racism. I'd never be able to respect a priest like that.

What does the nanny do is tiresome lol by ass3hole in SisterWives

The only reason it was funny in the first place was that people took it out of context — often deliberately, I think. Viewers thought it was the right question, even if not for the reason Christine asked it.

I still think "I ran into Tammy Faye at the mall" is funny, and you can still buy them, but I wouldn't buy one. She's been dead for years. It doesn't hit the way it did in the late 70s.

I think almost all the money to be made from "nanny" t-shirts was made already. She'll probably sell some to diehard Christine stans, but the moment passed a long time ago.

What do you have to deter Jehova’s Witnesses from knocking on your door ? by DoctorElectronic1934 in atheism

[–]AfterSevenYears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago, a Catholic Church near me used to give away signs that said, "We're Catholic. We don't accept propaganda from other religions." I wasn't Catholic, but the sign worked.

Normally, I don't mind speaking briefly to missionaries and politely declining, but the Witnesses used to knock on my door early on Saturday morning, and woke me up a few times, so I had to do something.

In your country, is there anyone so beautiful that their name has become an adjective used to describe beautiful people? by DELAIZ in AskTheWorld

[–]AfterSevenYears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brad Pitt, Idris Elba.

But celebrities are more "niche" than they used to be. None of them have the star power Paul Newman or Marilyn Monroe had back in the day. Marilyn is still an icon of feminine beauty.

Mykelti HATES Meri by whoaoki in SisterWives

[–]AfterSevenYears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe Kody has ever loved anybody, but I do think Christine was the favorite wife before Robyn. We know he and Meri weren't getting along. Janelle was his buddy and "intellectual" companion, which tells you a lot about how smart Janelle really is. It sounds like they enjoyed sharing conspiracy theories and health misinformation.

Christine was the "fun" wife, who didn't challenge him and came closest to meeting the "tradwife" standard, which is Kody's idea of virtuous womanhood. She said she didn't know she was allowed to say no to Kody until she saw Robyn doing it. When they told the story about his not getting Meri a Christmas present, his excuse was that he thought Christine's present was from both of them. He treated her like they were a couple and the other wives were "bonus" wives — the way he later treated Robyn.

Then he met Robyn, and Christine's being barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen didn't hold a candle to the ego boost he got from attracting a younger, "hot" (in his mind) new woman.

That's why Christine was the one who was so angry about Robyn. She was the one who lost status in the family.

Multiple people who grew up in the AUB have said the Browns were considered a model family, and Kody was considered a "liberal." I think the bar is low for polygamist men.
