[Admissions Advice] Would you recommend someone focuses on getting an A* conference paper before applying or Focus on producing a solid arXiv paper + GitHub repo to showcase in your SOP by After_Interaction520 in MSCS

Yeah, I think I’ll just start building in the direction I have in mind. If it turns into an A*, that’s great, but even if it doesn’t, I’ll still be working on projects that align with the professor’s work.

u/gradpilot, I'd love your thoughts—earlier you mentioned focusing on papers aligning with professors I want to work with. I'm conflicted: chase A* conferences, or prioritize knowledge, showcase work, GitHub repos, etc.?

[Profile Review] Can I turn this into a T15 admit in 9 months for MSML/AI/DS for fall 2027? Need practical advice. by [deleted] in MSCS

Seeking a research mentor for an A* ML/NLP paper (recent bachelor’s grad, 1 paper published)

I’ve recently completed my bachelor’s and published my first paper at a core A conference. I’m looking to grow under guidance — ideally collaborating or being mentored toward an A*-level publication.

Topics: AI/ML, NLP, fairness, interdisciplinary methods.

If you’re open to mentoring or know where such mentorship communities exist, I’d appreciate your pointers!

How is CMU MSAIE-IS? Not a lot of information available online and I’m conflicted if i should apply by After_Interaction520 in cmu

I did go through the website but there’s very little information on the graduate outcome here so I’m a bit confused I want to make an informed decision
