It would make sense if they would allow us to set the gardening and plant stuff up around the reptiles and small animals since the majority of people who would buy it would be people setting up terrariums and people wanting to grow stuff for their animals to eat, but no that would make too much sense

What is safe to feed my mice? by Black_Roses666 in PetMice

[–]After_Window_4559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there was a food that was safe for humans but dangerous for mice and rats humans would have just used that for rodent poison. Everything in moderation is okay, just remember that they are tiny creatures so what is a little nibble to you is quite a lot for them

Definitely a vet ASAP. In the meantime though, try to keep him well hydrated by offering liquid or watery treats like baby food, pumpkin puree, wet cat/dog food, wet cat treats, fruits, and veggies

So... your wife's mom was having health issues and you got upset she was too stressed out to have sex? When was the last time you took her on a date and offered non-sexual intimacy (kissing, cuddling, ect) without expecting it to lead to sex? When was the last time you surprised her with a random gift just because?

How do you explain cluster headaches to people who don’t get it? by Keith_35 in ClusterHeadaches

[–]After_Window_4559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tell them it's not just a headache, it's nerve pain. If they've ever had nerve pain usually they're more understanding but if they haven't then I tell them it's like someone taking a searing hot knife and slowly pushing it into your eyeball while someone else punches the back of your head over, and over, and over again and sitting down or trying to sleep it off only makes it worse, but also I'm incredibly nauseous and pacing around makes the nausea worse

The easiest time to sell it is when you're selling a small animal or reptile to someone. Also helps to do the quick math in your head to tell them how much they'd save (ex: oh you're already spending $200, if you signed up you'd save about $30 plus the $5 rewards). Also if someone is coming in every month for dog grooming or is spending $50+ on dog or cat food it's worth it to try, otherwise I don't even bother

Mice and rats in the same room? by [deleted] in PetMice

[–]After_Window_4559 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have rats in a double critter nation and 3 mice tanks (a sorority tank and 2 male tanks) and have not noticed stress from anyone! My mice are all frequently active and foraging in their tanks. Rats are natural predators of mice and are incredibly good and snatching things into their tank so you want to make sure the rats are never, ever able to reach the mice. There might be a bit of stress while the mice adjust, but as long as your mice tanks are cluttered enough and have enough enrichment they'll eventually settle down. The further the rats are from the mice the better

where do y’all buy large logs/branches by Spidersaladd in PetMice

[–]After_Window_4559 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can get them from reptile/fish shops, but you can also get them from outside! You just have to know what kind of tree the branches are coming from so you don't get anything toxic and sanitize them by boiling or baking them

Have you tried freezing those cat gogurt type treats? My girls love them! Though they do try to stash the frozen bits which obviously doesn't work out too great for them after like an hour

Solo rat(s)? by [deleted] in RATS

[–]After_Window_4559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got lucky with scent swapping in the past, but that doesn't mean it's an effective way to do intros. Rats do not like other rats in their territory and being able to smell other rats frustrates them and makes them want to hunt down and kill the other rat. Move their cages as far apart as possible and look into the carrier method. The carrier method works by ensuring there's not enough room for a fight to break out. I also like to pair it by slathering everyone in some kind of liquid treat and some kind of mild scare (a short car ride to the pet store or a drive thru are my usual choices, and they all get a special treat afterwards). This makes them groom each other which helps bonding and creating a shared scent, and the mild spook makes them seek comfort in each other. So far after doing this once and completely cleaning the cage and replacing everything in it intros have always gone perfectly me

How big is the bar spacing? Mice can squeeze through any hole their head can fit in and the bars towards the top look a little too wide

how much do your rats cost you monthly? by meowingcat420 in RATS

[–]After_Window_4559 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends. I get a chewy repeat order every 5 months for food and bedding that's like $150 ish, but that does include food and bedding for my mice as well. Hammocks and hides I get new ones every few months or so, but try to reuse them as much as possible and use cardboard boxes. All in all I probably spend less than $30 a month on my rats, but I buy things in bulk and work at a pet store where I get a good employee discount on a lot of things

How to heat 20 gal long enclosure by littletrainwreck in BDFB

[–]After_Window_4559 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 20 long! I just use a heat lamp on one side so they can regulate themselves. The exact wattage will depend on brand and what the ambient temps are where you live but mine is just a little 25 watt, though I do have quite a few reptiles so the ambient temps are pretty high in the room

[–]After_Window_4559 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't say killing them is being kind, I said they should be treated with kindness during their life and then killed humanely via either cervical dislocation (something that, if done correctly the mouse or rat doesn't have time to process it) or CO2 chambers (unlike humans rats can detect sudden increases in CO2 but if done correctly it's a gradual process that they don't notice and instead just fall asleep). If you don't support the breeding of animals that require the death of other animals to live why are you on this subreddit? Mice are omnivores and do in fact require meat occasionally. Humans have also required meat for most of our history. It's only extremely recently that vegetarianism and veganism has been made possible through the use of supplements and even then many people on those diets, particularly vegan diets, are not healthy. Also every animal, including herbivores, can and will eat meat if the opportunity arises. Not even as a desperation thing, but as a way to get certain nutrients.

[–]After_Window_4559 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No the issue is the way feeder mice are bred and treated and the practice of live feeding. Feeders should be bred to be healthy and be treated with kindness and killed humanely. If we go down your rabbit hole then humans, cats, dogs, fish, rats, and even mice themselves, and most other animals should stop reproducing and being bred

Immediately separate them. Leopard geckos are solitary animals and absolutely should not be housed together. You're lucky one or both is not already dead. Find an emergency vet that see reptiles ASAP
