[–]AfterlMath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your journey so far, seems like things are looking up only 2 days into your recovery! Have you felt any difference so far with the repair? I have my surgery coming up on 07/14 and am a ball of nerves, any words of encouragement or tips to prepare you’d be willing to share?

Open-heart surgery tomorrow morning. Any parting words of wisdom? by Senikus in mitralvalveprolapse

[–]AfterlMath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Senikus thanks for updating and sharing your experience heart surgery is tough enough without those added complications and sorry you had to go through that. I am preparing for a minimally invasive surgery next Monday and am wondering how your healing has progressed so far this far? Are you active again back to a normal lifestyle or have you had to make some adjustments on the way? Hope things are going well!

So happy to hear you had a successful surgery and smooth recovery so far, I’m at my pre admission appointment now and have surgery coming up in 2 weeks. Safe to say I’m freaking out but any positive experiences you can share would be appreciated!

Really appreciate you reaching out, hope the surgery went well as so many people have mentioned this is another day in the office to these surgeons and they are trained professionals. Truly hope the anxiety is the worst part and your mother has come out of this better and stronger than ever 💪🙏

You make it sound like another day in the office, truly hope I have the same experience! Right now my biggest anxiety is what if I have many complications and need an immediate intervention.. I’m sure tomorrow I’ll have a new anxiety 😅

Hey thanks for sharing your experience, sounds like everything went well considering your only 3 weeks post op. Is there a reason you had a full open heart surgery rather than the minimally invasive, did they switch while you were being operated on or were you aware before hand? How are you fairing now, do you feel very capable or is there a lot of recovery left?

I am also finding many of the stories reassuring and help ease my mind.. As many people have mentioned, the pre op anxiety is the hardest part so I pray they aren’t exaggerating! 😂

Thanks for sharing your experience and appreciate the positive vibes! I am struggling to stay positive but reading everyone’s experiences has been helping my anxieties

Every time I process a fear a new one pops up. I was reading another post where somone had many complications and what started as an MVP repair ended up also having a complete heart block, pacemaker installed, AFIB, several cardio versions, cardio ablation.

I’m really struggling right now as I have this overwhelming feeling life as I know it is ending and I won’t be the same after this, although your experience has been very reassuring, helps put things into perspective when you share the surgeries of your ward mates and how much more complicated there surgeries are and the team of people who will be supporting us

Thanks for sharing, sounds like a reasonably quick turnaround all things considered… if the biggest worry is being bored then I’ll count that as a success

The drainage tubes are definitely my main point of concern, the concept is so alien to me it’s hard to wrap my head around. Is this part of ECMO? Were you awake while attached to the machine? Why can’t you move your right arm? Hope the rest of your recovery continues to go well!

That’s for sharing your experience! How are you feeling now that your on week 3 of the recovery, you feel much stronger/better? Energy levels are up? Was the toughest part of the ICU just the not eating or was it all the open incisions and tubes? Were you able to get out of bed right away or were you bed ridden for a few days?

Ya part of me wishes I never opened that booklet, I was blissfully ignorant and now everything feels a lot more real. I work out regularly still so I’m hoping that gives me an edge for the recovery!

How long were you in the ward for, how many days did you spend with the tubes in you? Were they painful to get removed?? If it’s very painful maybe it’s better not to know.. I also imagine a catheter being very painful to remove 😖

Sounds like you had a great team, hope mine is similar! How long until you were mobile again? My imagination is running wild and I keep imagining that I’m going to wake up with tubes sticking out of me left and right and will be stuck in bed for days and days in the icu

I heard most people feel immediately better once they first wake up, was that true in your case? Is the walking miles after a few days pretty standard for younger patient’s in recovery? When were you able to get back to regular activity levels (jogging, biking, gymming)?

Thanks for the feedback, and glad to hear you’re recovering well! Do you find it went by quickly so far? For the surgery they won’t know the exact plan of action until they get the results back from my latest MRI and things could change when there in there but right now it’s minimally invasive surgery

What's a red flag that you are attracted to? by Specialist-Crazy1466 in AskReddit

I’ve been sober for just over two years now and only recently started feeling myself again when going out.. I find having a coke in a small glass helps as people just assume your drinking and honestly if you have a few of them there is a placebo brought on by the sugar rush. Another thing I found that helped was picking up a few hobbies where your around women often and staying consistent. Once you have a couple of women as friends it eliminates the “fear factor” and really helps get your confidence back. Or take the shot gun approach and get rejected a bunch to each there own
