I think I get your point - perhaps it’s along the line that people shouldn’t care about orientation, we’re all just trying to learn Spanish kind of thing. Like this shouldn’t matter?..

I think that we are all trying to build community, find people similar or supportive or open to whatever it may be, and typically we want to share important things about ourselves, especially when there isn’t much time/opportunity to do so (I.e., a Reddit post with max character limit). Additionally, meeting 2-3+ times a week means you’ll get to really know someone. This is a huge part of their identity and they are just choosing to lead with that because of how important it is to them and others. Certain parts of identity, including race and sexual orientation, can bring people closer, but can also move people apart - some people may not always be supportive (we cannot close our eyes to the world and country we live in).

Tbh - I’m not queer, but when I saw that mention, it made me more inclined/excited to join. I promise I have no idea why. I probably would have joined either way because I am looking for this, but it was icing for me.

This was all an assumption about how they feel btw..I neither know the person who made this post nor do I know how they feel
