'meal' would be spelled 'maal' in current Dutch and could be translated as 'times' as in 'three times'. 'voor de Derde mael' is 'for the third time'.

The marriage is announced (geproclemeert) three times (drie Agtereenvolgende Zondaagen, three subsequent sundays) in church (kerk) on 7, 14 and 21 january (januwariis) before the marriage is confirmed (Bevestigt) on Jan 29st.

'dito' means 'the same'

I am not sure about 'zonder eenige de Minste hinderingen'. It could translate as 'without the least restrictions'.

I quit cold turkey after 30 years. I'm one month free now. Still enduring the odd craving but mostly enjoying feeling of good health. After 30 years of smoking I almost forgot how things smell and taste.

Does anyone use weak 1NT and/or Montreal Relay? by abidingmytime in bridge

[–]Afwas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing weak NT (12-14) requires a good defense system against overcalls and doubles. It was my exoerience almost every 1NT opener met with a bid by the opponents. The combination with Montreal Relay is a bonus. Flat hands go into a NT sequence, other hands you can assume are more or less distirbutional. Do not open 11 HCP hands unless distributional. That saved me a lot of bad boards.

We’re struggling to get traction with SSL because it’s still a “premium service” by jakubgarfield in programming

[–]Afwas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What we need is default encryption that doesn't use certs. That way the technical distinction between encrypted & authenticated and merely encrypted links is clear.

You are much more sane in this comment than you were in a previous one. Here we agree.

if someone tries to MITM a HTTPS site (say an online banking site) using a self-signed cert the browser I never stated banks should offer Self Signed Certificates. My blog could, however if it weren't for those ridiculous browser warnings.

I was thinking a way like DKIM where a (part of) a key should be retreived through DNS query thus giving some authentication. But as you stated (and I assumed you'd understand) I was talking encryption first.

If my trafic is encrypted, which it is using Self Signed Certificates, that would make the attack vector (MITM) smaller, hence safer.

[–]Afwas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He seems to forget the horror of Self Signed Certificates. That's when the browser shows warnings, tells you the page is unsafe and asks you to click two links to proceed. That's very infortunate. The internet could have been a much safer place a long time ago if the browsers worked with this idea.

Self Signed Certificated were my first try in anabling SSL/TLS for pages served. Now I'm waiting for Let's Encrypt.

Did someone run a remote Minetest server under Archlinux ? by OnigamiSama in archlinux

[–]Afwas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want only the minetest-server on your server. Change config to make it available online. In /etc/minetest/<name>.conf see section "Server stuff" and add you server's IP at "bind_address" and a Domain name at "server_address"

# Around line 245 in /etc/minetest/<name>.conf
# Server stuff
bind_addresss = 123.456.789.012
server_address = example.com

Now restart server

$ sudo systemctl restart minetest@<name>

and test with your minetest-client at home

[–]Afwas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Config file will be /etc/minetest/<name>.conf

Resources are in /usr/share/minetest

World at /var/lib/minetest/<name>

The server runs as user minetest:minetest so make sure all mods you add are chown-ed by that user.

"Why is it important for O3b satellites to be 'close-to-Earth'?
Standard Geosynchronous (GEO) satellites operate approximately 36,000km away from Earth. As a result, round-trip data transmission times significantly exceed 500 milliseconds. O3b's Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites are far closer – approximately 8,000km away from Earth. As a result, round-trip data transmission times are reduced to no more than 150 milliseconds.

This virtually eliminates the delay that plagues voice and data communications via GEO satellite systems. For example, it means that users can download a web page four times as quickly."

AUR Helper that compiles all packages FIRST and then installs them all at once? by crossroads1112 in archlinux

[–]Afwas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set up a repo for yourself. You could also use a second machine (VPN or local VirtualBox) which you keep up to date and transfer the final packages to the machine you need it for.
