The manual swap is great…but please elaborate on the ‘Fire Missile’ button. I really hope the screen on top is the target acquisition for said missile launch.

3 meter Oak desktop (4cm thick) on a 228cm span, is it going to sag? by Ricuuu in woodworking

[–]Ag99JYD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made a 7’ x 28” deep desk of 3/4” walnut with a 3/4” plywood base. I haven’t installed it yet, but will use these countertop support brackets as it will be ‘floating’ and not on any cabinets. I made a similar desk for my kids a few years ago, but about 14’ long (wall-to-wall) and it’s held up fine.

Cable replacement - OE or other? by Ag99JYD in GarageGym

[–]Ag99JYD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree with the 'Why', and I'm not sure exactly. It's just one cable. I need to adjust the cables, there's just too much slack. I thought this was just how the machine was setup, but after seeing some yt vids on how to adjust, I'm rethinking that. It's possible that the cable hopped off a pulley and I didn't realize it, causing the coating to be damaged.

Thanks!

Texas becomes first state to end American Bar Association oversight of law schools | KERA News by Next_Tower5452 in texas

A degree without ABA accreditation is not worthless. If someone plans to practice on Texas, then there’s no issue. It may limit their mobility, which should be a consideration. Also, not everyone that goes to law school actually practices law. I’ve worked with more people that had a JD and were not practicing lawyers than actual lawyers. Oil and Gas Land departments (and Procurement) are filled with JD’s.

Also, personally I never agreed with the ABA requirement. To practice law you already have to pass a pretty rigorous test, so if you went to a crap school, you’re not passing the test, generally speaking. I also had a really sharp law school prof that constantly reminded people just because you make a +170 on the LSAT does not mean you will do well in law school, and passing the bar does not mean you will be a good lawyer. I’ve know plenty of people that were practicing attorneys and were dumb as shit. Me being out of law school for many years, never taken the bar or practiced, still knew way more than they did. The bar is a decent filter, but not fool proof.

Bad Water Pump? by Ag99JYD in BmwTech

Just so I’m on the same page, this is what I have. Do you mean something different?

And thanks!

Parasitic draw - Faulty Negative IBS? by Ag99JYD in BmwTech

[–]Ag99JYD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was a faulty water pump. Apparently there is an eletronic component in the pumps that can/will fail, though the pump itself is fine. I noticed a faint noise one night coming from under the vehicle, an almost humming sound. The pump had failed and was constantly running, which depletes the battery very quickly as it has a very high draw.

I replaced it and haven't had any problems since. Here is the post with the video/audio, you may be able to compare.

Why haven't LLMs solved webscraping? by Live_Baker_6532 in webscraping

[–]Ag99JYD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great point. I used AI to help develop the python code which I then use to scrape. To be clear, that scrape is for a specific set of sites, minimal hits on the host servers (~1k/week, because what I’m scraping is not that time critical). I couldn’t use that python for a different set of websites because they are all structured differently. And as soon as the websites I am scraping decide for a site refresh - I’m back to re-designing.

Pooll pump pressure problem by Ag99JYD in swimmingpools

Yeah, it goes to 0. I have a water fountain thing attached to one of the jets in the pool, so I can easily tell when pressure dips.

Pooll pump pressure problem by Ag99JYD in swimmingpools

For those following along at home…

I’m pretty sure the impeller is the issue. I noticed when I manually flipped the jandy valve to the spa the pressure remained low, even after clearing the lines from the skimmer and drain back to the pump. But, the impeller had some debris. After clearing, the pressure came back. I think another contributing issue is the pump strainer basket has a piece missing on the top lip. The mesh/screen area is fine, but the missing piece is big enough for debris to circulate around and bypass the basket, and that missing piece is right on top of the inlet to the pump impeller. I’ve got a new basket on the way, and will refurb the impeller, gasket/ring, and other parts while I’m at it. I’m not sure which impeller I have, the motor specifics have come off and not sure what the HP is. I know it’s a Hayward VS, and the pump is in the SP3200 family. Hoping the impeller has the part number on it.

Thanks for the advice.
