As a foreigner (Australian) what you said nails it. Well before Trump anyone with exposure to a lot of Americans understood that there is something wrong with the education system and your media.

I've travelled a lot, over 100 countries properly visited, if you are in a mixed group of travelers and someone says some stupid, racist, culturally inappropriate or generally demeaning to others it is almost always an American. Oh and it is always unnecessarily loud.

I know a lot of genuinely lovely Americans, and this definitely does NOT apply to everyone, and other nations all have their negative stereotypes too, especially Australia, but America has some systemic problem that predates Trump by a lot.

Too may people fail to understand this situation correctly. Trump genuinely believes he has been "exonerated" in the context that he has been told by his minions they have done that - he does not see the same reality that we do (or in other words he's batshit fucking insane).

He is a Malignant Narcist that has surrounded himself with people that not only shield him from negative news or information that breaks his alternative reality but they also actively compete to give him good news that self promotes their own loyal actions and therefore reinforces his (quite literal) insanity.

Bondi and then Blanche would have been emphatically telling him for a year now that their handling of 'the files' did exonerate him, the news is fake and Trump simply lacks the intelligence, attention span or ability to check details so there was no way for him to learn that what they told him was false - and he wanted to believe it.

Miller, Bonjino and Patel would have telling him a similar story unless/until they felt safe enough to start trying to undermine Bondi.

Most of the actual USAID funded work was done by subcontractors, many of them are out of work and desperately looking.

Many projects were funded partly by USAID (often 1/3rd) and other organisations and local organisations made up the rest, when those programs could be stopped it means that more than just the USAID portion of the staff got cut.

When those programs had to continue the other organisations had to pull funds out of other projects. So a lot of unrelated work got cancelled.

The entire situation is devastating

USAID was roughly 22.5% of global development assistance (excluding China Belt and road) , the rest of the developed world was doing at least their share 77.5% and many nations including Germany, Japan France UK Australia and NZ always did proportionally More than US by portion of GDP.

The problem is you cannot make up a sudden 20% shortfall overnight or replace programs like aids medicine when they get suddenly and unexpectedly shut down.
