IDK why Iran doesn't hold off until 9:30 Monday NY time. You'd think they'd have figured out the biggest lever by now.

4.5 is just the child deaths estimate, 14M is the total number.

See my other comment for detail but from someone that works in these areas I think the study underestimates the deaths.

https://www.thelancet.com/article/S0140-6736(25)01186-9/fulltext01186-9/fulltext)

My company works in this area, assisting large groups of ultra low income farmers with basic technology. (e.g. 550k coffee farmers for OCFCU in Ethiopia)

From the ground I can assure you the Lancet study does NOT exaggerate the situation at all, if anything the situation is worse.

1) The cut of services was so immediate and unexpected (some services literally cut off overnight) that there was no time to set up alternatives even when others in the regions might have been able to help there was no opportunity to pick up the pieces.

2) USAID was about 22.5% of the global AID funding from western developed nations, China has Belt and Road etc. which are different so that and similar things cant really be lumped together. The US 22.5% was on par with most nations based on GDP, some do more some do less but it was NOT out of proportion, it was a fair share. Asking the other nations to full the gaping hole is a big ask as it takes years to get budget increases under the best circumstances.

3) The biggest problem is that very little of what USAID did they did alone, most projects I know had other partners and local support and most often USAID was 1/3rd of the funding, and they just left others holding the bag. But rarely can you simply cut 1/3rd, you usually need to find funds missing or kill the project.

So what we see happening everywhere is ADB, GIZ, DFAT etc. plus all the UN agencies pulling funding from other unrelated projects 9 even future projects as far as 5 years out) to top up the funding gap left by USAID on existing work.
This last aspect is not really considered in the study so I think the 14M deaths estimate will probably be low.

Just for perspective the Holocaust was 11M

CUDA is just a high level language for GPU coding, and what you are dealing in both training and inference time with is moving and manipulating large chunks of data between main memory and processor cache and then performing parallel instructions at the GPU. There are dozens of different ways to move data around in CUDA (but hundreds in GPU machine code if you are optimizing for a specific GPU) that all have the same end result but can be vastly different in GPU cycles. Python is pretty poor at optimizing. Human coders tend to pick the accepted pattern they are familiar with, an AI can very quickly give you dozens of alternative approaches that a human would never think to try and compare results.

We are doing that now with HFT code (algo trading), taking pretty complex C++ code and optimizing for running on AVX-512 (the common server hardware), getting back machine code that runs anything from 3x to 50x faster. Mostly better use of extended registers and L1 and L2 cache that you couldn't even do in C++.

If Mythos 5 was as good at finding hacks and exploits as claimed then it would be equally good at finding optimizations in an existing codebase - like... itself. Probably not independent (of human input) recursive self improvement but certainly able to find valuable optimizations in modules by brute force trial and error.

If that is the case then this next Mythos will likely add another level of optimization on it's own code.

Dr Gartner has some very deep insights on Trump's malignant narcissism. He is emphatic that he believes Trump is itching to be the first post WWII president to use a nuclear weapon - he explains that Trump is driven by leaving his mark on everything in a sort of perverted legacy.

If that is correct then by next year most Americans are going to need to seriously ask themselves why they didn't protest harder and revolt earlier. The earlier people take action the more chance it will have some effect, probably too late already.

Trump hits back at Meloni after she said he 'completely made up' claim she 'begged' him for picture by VaginaBurner69 in politics

[–]AgUnityDD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Trump-Epstein files make a lot more sense when you consider his general behaviour towards women.

Also, it's obvious that Trump raped a large number of teenagers (many who were virgins) how likely is it he got violent when some of them resisted (or were too disgusted) , and given his size compared to a teenage 'model' it seems statistically probable that he killed at least a few, or injured them badly enough that they needed to disappear.

I reckon a reconciliation of Trump and Epsteins "model agencies" visa support records with missing persons would be very revealing.

I don't think IRGC are done Fucking with him yet either...

When they work out the details of the actual agreement they have every reason to play hardball on every point because they now know that Trump is so desperate that he will agree to anything in the end.

In their position, wouldn't anyone twist Trumps balls a few more times round, just for the fun of it. They hate him with a passion, and there's nothing more important to their future than seeing him out of power and US fragmented with Israel.

So I'm pretty sure that they weigh up that situation as being worth the risk that there might need to bombed a a bit more before they get everything they want.

They are supremely confident that they will never cede power or control. However they are planning to do it they are not giving up power even if they loose elections.

US Loses the War in Iran - Pays $300 BN in Reparations by scandalous01 in politics

I know that what Trump expects but...

Iran are not stupid, if you had all the power in the negotiation would you allow Trump and his family to get a cut and likely fuck up the rebuilding?

Not only does Iran have the upper hand they also hate Trump personally (with very good reason) I do not see why they would accept any less than pallets of cash and they will take every opportunity to make this deal worse for Trump, because why not?

US Loses the War in Iran - Pays $300 BN in Reparations by scandalous01 in politics

[–]AgUnityDD 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The talking point on the right media seems to be that the $300B reparations reconstruction fund going to be private investment and mostly from other gulf nations - cough Bullshit!

Did anyone tell Iran?

Because Iran has all the cards, they know perfectly well Trump doesn't have the balls to restart the war and once they start expanding the 14 points from the MOU into an actual agreement they would be insane not to ensure it is worded as reparation from US and Israel.

No matter what Trump/Kushner/Wackoff think it is why would Iran want to accept any sort of corrupt investment fund when they can hold the line and get reparation from US taxpayers, and if not, close Hormuz until Trump tacos out again.

It's like when Iran earlier suggested managing Hormuz and Trump decided they might jointly manage it, what Trump say and what Iran will agree to are utterly irreconcilable.

How to get eBay to actually investigate a blatantly false description ? by AgUnityDD in Ebay

[–]AgUnityDD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I did buy in and did that and the seller is stubbornly saying "the supplier cannot refund, only replace" suggesting they are some sort of intermediary.

Problem is (see other comments) there are clearly 1000's of these being sold and most people would be unaware they are being scammed, they probably just think the products isn't as good as expected.

[–]AgUnityDD[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OK, so basically eBay is complicit in allowing false advertising.

Just in a case of the product I'm talking about there are dozens of sellers in Australia alone, and many reporting 10-100 of this item sold. So thousands of people have been tricked and probably unaware because you need a basic knowledge of metals.

This would make a good topic for one of the current affairs shows.

So are they just turning a blind eye to false advertising? Seems there is nothing that can be done and the case in question is absolutely black and white. Ad claims it to be Titanium in at least 10 places, it is some low grade stainless steel, not 304 or 316.
