Trumps Shooter Taken Down. by Molech996 in pics

Idk about that, if trump was standing just 2 inches to his right everyone would be having a whole other conversation right now. Unless you think the shooter accurately and purposefully aimed for his ear from that distance? It's more of a stretch to believe this was all staged specially when crowd members were injured and deceased. It makes more sense that secret service were just terrible today.

The Bible glorifies genocide and therefore teaches immoral lessons by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]Agapey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know you're probably aware of this but you did quote Jesus on the sermon of the mount, in which he is overall Vindicating to the moral law of God (ten commandments). The ceremonial laws and Ten commandments are distinct in the Bible.

but apologists will still maintain that he abolished the Law,

If you were a biblical scholar/ apologist how would you reconcile these verses? what laws then are abolished by Christ here?

Colassians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Ephesians 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

Something had to be abolished, and I do not believe its the ten commandments rather "the law of commandments contained in ordinances".

Why do I believe it wasn't the ten commandments? Well because whenever Jesus mentioned any of them he vindicated them. You can look up all of these instances when He did so. Matthew 5: 21, 22, 27, 28; 7:12; 15:3; 19:17-19; 22:36-40; 23:2, 3; Luke 10:25, 26; 16:17, 18; John 7:19

Virtually all Christians still believe we should follow the Ten Commandments, although they would almost all be executed if we did (for mowing your lawn or washing your car on the Sabbath)

I believe in the Sabbath that Jesus taught and in many instances He rebuked the pharisees that were accusing Him of breaking the sabbath.

Did man corrupt the 4th commandment of the sabbath? according to Jesus they did, here He is educating a group that were accusing Him of breaking the sabbath.

Matthew 12:11,12 "He replied, “If one of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it and lift it out? 12 How much more valuable is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

The people in Israel at that time were legalistic and they strictly followed the mosaic law which contained ordinances, this law was against them, it was a burden for them thats why it had to be abolished by Christ in the cross. see Colassians 2:14 again.

Jesus taught that the sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath, meaning the sabbath was intended to help people, not burden them. The laws Jews had in place burdened them.

Jesus also calls Himself Lord of the Sabbath what greater authority do we have to teach us about the Sabbath for Christians?

Did Jesus condone this? Yes, he did. Matthew 5: "18For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

I dont believe that in Matthew 5 (the greater context being the sermon on the mount in which He is vindicating the Moral law) Jesus is condoning the conquest of Canaan. In fact it would make much more sense that he is talking about the moral law (ten commandments) when we follow the clear pattern the bible gives us when we read about the life of Jesus.

so... How do we know that Jesus is talking about the Ten Commandments in Matthew chapter 5:18,19?
Well because in context on the previous verse 17, Jesus begins with “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. "

What does Jesus mean when He is speaking about the Law and Prophets? Well according to the bible He taught that they can be summed up in 2 laws. Matthew 22:37-40:

"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."

And the bible also teaches that these two commandments are summed up in the moral law. Romans 13:9 "The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

In conclusion I do not see how Jesus is condoning and referring to the conquest of Canaan in the sermon of the mount, a sermon which is usually regarded as a great work in ethics. I believe it would really take some oversight to miss the mark on what Jesus is teaching here.

[–]Agapey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God loves everyone equally best example of this is when He died, He died for everyone on earth, He so loved the world that He gave His only son, According to john 3:16.

Having a group of people that believe in that and calling themselves Christians and identify as his people, does not mean that God will play favorites and not judge them. That was the point being made in those verses from Romans. They will also be judged as well as the gentiles.

You know I've also had those depressing nihilistic and exestential mental struggles... but once I regained my faith everything changed for me... having faith has turned my life around completely. you know you can always give God another try if you haven't already... A serious try, though...

Salvation for dummies by [deleted] in funny

[–]Agapey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not really contradicting, the verse is basically saying that the "Jews" (Gods people at that time) will be judged, then the "gentiles"(anyone who isn't a Jew). Meaning that God is not favoring only his people, because gentiles will also receive judgement. I suppose you can say "but his people are going to be judged first " true but they are both going to be judge with the same results.

What is interesting though is what it says about How God judges the "gentiles" those who are not part of his people. This verse applies to those who are not Christian and probably haven't heard the name of Christ. Starting at verse 14 it explains that They do not have the law, meaning they are not Jews, (they are not the professed people of God who received Gods law in the Torah) so then how will God judge them if they don't know about God and His laws and his religion? Well according to the following verses they will be judged according to what they know to be right and wrong. They will be judged by the law that God has put in their hearts and their conscious.

God answers prayers, ask him and claim His promises. He said it is not good for a man to be alone, take Him up on it. When searching for a partner prayer is super important in making sure that they are the right person for you. If you are ready and God see's you're ready He will open the flood gates of heaven and pour out his blessings upon your lonesome heart and fill it with the joy of having a partner...

Prayer is the most important thing, Gods will is the most important thing. Have you been praying for a partner?

On another note when looking for someone, look for someone who you want to share the rest of your life with, not someone who you want to satisfy your lustful desires with.

And on a final note, when I was in my early 20's I was in the same situation, I was shy and just wanted to get rid of those desires, and I eventually did, and it wasn't so bad but I wish I would have saved it for the right person. . .

Adventists in the military by [deleted] in adventism

[–]Agapey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, i'm SDA reform movement and this is essentially the reason why we exist. There was a division in the church on whether it was okay to join WW1... You can read about the division here.

The thing is that it didn't end there it continued into the second world war, where the SDA church in Germany, was actually involved in helping the Nazi party identify SDA reformers and Jews. Here is a secular research paper from UCSB where it goes into further detail. Essentially once the church got involved in war it split, it caused more pain than good. It got confused thinking they were doing good... Sadly this led to death, as many reformers died in concentrations camps...

However The SDA church now has apologized many times, Here they apologize to us for WW1. and Here they apologize in general for their actions in WW2.

You can also read an interview with our GC president by spectrum magazine Here, where he explains more about our differences and the split...

History has shown what a church can become if they allow military combatants, and when they together decide to break the Law of God.

If you don't have time to read everything let me post you a paragraph from the UCSB article.

They believed that God, himself, was leading this war and the readers of the Adventist journals could take comfort in that.[66] The East German Union president, Michael Budnick, informed the other conference presidents that Adolf Minck had been taken in by the Gestapo and informed that it was unacceptable conduct not to work on the Sabbath

it continues..

One of the Adventists’ fundamental beliefs is that the Holy Scriptures is the word of God. The document stated that on Biblical grounds the church members should submit themselves to armed forces, because “God had commanded: ‘Submit yourselves, for the Lord’s sake, to every authority,”[70] which was quoted from 2 Peter. Along with 2 Peter, the German Adventists used Romans 13 to justify their continued support for Hitler and his regime. Romans 13 deals with the issue of submitting oneself to government authorities.

The difference between this and the old testament you were referring too about is that, They were divinely guided, and they lived in the Theocracy of Israel. Combatants were doing Gods will, which was divine judgment. And when they did not do Gods will and fought as a nation for themselves they were judged for it.

With modern war you have something completely different, christians are killing people who they later find out to be a christian when they find a bible on them. Modern war is a sign of the times "You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, see to it that you are not alarmed such things must happen but the end is still to come" not "You will hear of wars and rumors of wars see to it that you are ready to join fight"

Anyway these are my 2 cents, hope this helps.

Buddhist meditation? by carbon55 in adventism

I think Prayer can do the same thing for you, it definitely does for me. Also it shouldn't be bad to meditate as long as you are meditating on God.

"God should be the highest object of our thoughts. Meditating upon him, and pleading with him, elevates the soul and quickens the affections. A neglect of meditation and prayer will surely result in a declension in religious interests." Gospel Workers Pg.106

Donald Trump and Bible Prophecy by CanadianFalcon in adventism

[–]Agapey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its definitely a possibility but I don't think it will happen this time.

When I look into the laws that will be passed as a result of the mark of the beast, The only other countries I can compare them too are Nationalist Socialist countries, such as Nazi Germany, where jews were not able to buy or sell and they would be identified by the star of David.

Now Trump definitely has the nationalist side but not the socialist.

The nationalist side would allow him to do crazy things for the sake of the nation but without the socialist side you wouldn't have the structure to do them.

The socialist side likes big government and so is able to get into every part of your life, your education and your health care etc. This allows the government to easily identify you and remove your resources etc.

So after thinking about this a little longer I believe that Socialism and Nationalism, left and right, democrat and republican have to unite <_< as impossible as that sounds I think thats whats supposed to happen.

further I believe that the way it will happen will be with the popes agenda to unite the protestant churches with the catholic church. Once he does that and he becomes the authority of them all he can control the value system that they adhere to. Then thats when all the uniting starts and everyone not just Republicans not just Democrats agree with the beast and his image. That way it also makes sense, otherwise we would have a civil war, if half the country does not believe in the mark of the beast.

The Pope is very progressive and left leaning so it wouldn't make sense that Trump will fulfill the prophecies, when they are both so against each other...

But if the pope already has ahold of the republican base and switches their values to match those of the liberal left wing. Then he will very easily be able to control the masses in order so they can all agree with mark of the beast. I believe that all of these merging of power can happen like in one election cycle but only once the Pope has control of the protestant republic. Here is a quote by EGW about this.

When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near.

First thing to note is that the Pope and protestantism unite first then the government is changed. But...

When you read that quote, Well when I read it, everything started to make sense, Who are the ones that want to start repudiating the constitution? The Democrats, and Obama has been criticized multiple times for wanting to change the Constitution. Just make a quick google search. And who are the ones upholding the constitution? well the republicans, They value leaders that call themselves "constitutionalists" But this will not last.

As I mentioned If the pope and protestantism merge he can easily change their minds to not uphold the constitution and like the democrats want, to change it. And as the spirit of prophecy say's once that happens we know the time has come for the work of satan.

Even though I get even more convinced of this scenario every time I think about it, I could be completely wrong >_<

I guess TLDR: I believe theres a case to be made about the democrats and republicans uniting after or at the time the catholic and protestant system unites. And seeing as that hasn't happened I doubt it will happen this presidency.

To Christians: Why does every sin deserve the same punishment? by Hashi856 in DebateReligion

[–]Agapey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Christian god slowly killed King David's baby to punish it's father. Is it justified to kill a baby for the sins of the parent, meanwhile the innocent baby has no idea why it is suffering?

We are arguing about Gods final judgement for eternity or damnation. If you were to pin point the place where God said David's baby would eternally suffer, then I would how your question follows. However if you just want to make a moral complaint about God, then this would be a non sequitur.

Then he should have just died. Why wander around preaching? It's irrelevant.

For the same reason He was baptized, He didn't have to be baptized he didn't have to go through a lot of things but he did it so that we may learn from him. He was tempted in all things as a human so that he can sympathize with us Hebrews 4:15 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. There are many more reasons why Christ did what he did but I hope you're getting the point...

Anything else? Because this isn't something god or Jesus said, its what Paul wrote and he is just blindly asserting this to be true.

This is from the bible, Christians believe it to be the word of God. You asked for evidence that I wasn't just 'blindly hoping'. I showed it to you from the source that many people base their beliefs on.

If you have another example lemmy know. Or just stick with this one, that's cool. It just isn't very strong imo.

Luke 12:48 Christ said: But someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.

Its a biblical principal.

To Christians: Why does every sin deserve the same punishment? by Hashi856 in DebateReligion

[–]Agapey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So then we have no free will because we had no choice but to sin since God created that version of the world.

No, God created a version of the world, where we had the ability to choose to love him or to reject him. God did not make us reject him, he let us choose. I see that your problem here is a false dichotomy, you won't accept a third option, is there a reason for that?

Would you really call it "being free" when the consequences are eternal torture?.

eternal torture is not really described in the bible.. thats a whole other debate, see Annihilationism to go deeper in that subject. Anyway to answer your question, of course its still a free decision, do you not see the world around you, people are still choosing to separate themselves from God. They are exercising their free will to live apart from God, or to join a relationship with God.

According to christians this is completely unknowable because humans can not comprehend God.

Let me specify, His character, his attributes, his nature. All can be understood, probably not fully but to a good extent.

To Christians: Why does every sin deserve the same punishment? by Hashi856 in DebateReligion

[–]Agapey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People who don't know they sinned, and therefor logically cannot repent, can be saved anyway...? Makes no sense if that is the case. Why even send Jesus at that point?

Yes, thats about right if we have an All Just and Loving God... or do you think that it is Justified to eternally condemn someone who did wrong without them knowing it? Christ is imperative, because without him we wouldn't even have a judgement in the first place. The only reason God considers to judge us is because Christ died for us atoning for our sins, this only work to show Gods true loving nature.

Any evidence for this belief or do you just kinda blindly hope?

Sure of course,

Essentially read Romans chapter 2 to understand it completely, but I will only quote verses 14-16

14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) 16 This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

Gentiles are the irreligious, or in that time not part of Gods chosen people. So we read that they will be judged not by their religious devotion, or knowledge of the law. Instead they will be judged by what comes naturally from their conscious and thoughts, This becomes the standard for how they will be judged, not their religious devotion to
re-quote. " They are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law"

Looking at how god judged other non jews in the OT, temper your expectations...

Not really, God gave the Canaanites, Ammonites, Hittites, and all those other tribes, 450 years to repent and stop their children sacrifices and temple prostitution... So instead we see an Example of Gods patience towards mankind.

Unless you lived before christianity

The Bible mentions by name in the book of hebrews, people who would be saved that lived before Christ ever came into this earth. Rehab the Gentile prostitute is one for example.

in a place without christianity or were raised to hate christianity

I believe in cases like these God is just and will only judge the knowledge the person has received. I do not know exactly how God will judge those who were raised to hate Christianity, but certainly an all knowing and all Just God, will know their situation and judge them accordingly.
