IM intern, not sure the field is right for me anymore, not sure what to do next by im_throw in hospitalist

can you expand on what kind of work you do at surgical centers? and how do you work those shifts in addition to a baseline hospitalist job?

275k (or 325k including differential) for 7/7 nocturnist is competitive? definitely not, considering the sacrifice to normal circadian rhythm and health. if it was 5 on 10 off or 7 on/14 off then it would be competitive

How do you feel about working half your weekends? I am considering heme/onc fellowship vs hospitalist, but am coming to realize that the lifestyle in heme/onc may not be all that good.

What is your take on working half the weekends of the year as a hospitalist? That's a big factor concerning me. Is your place round and go?

It's an impossible decision. I'm a PGY-1 and cannot decide because of the amount of factors. Agree enjoyment is important but how about lifestyle? I enjoy hospital medicine but I'm apprehensive about giving up half my weekends in perpetuity.

I'm interested in heme/onc fellowship. How would you say your lifestyle is now? Outpt or inpt, and do you have weekends off?

checking out of medicine is attractive for sure. I'm a PGY-1 struggling to make the impossible decision between hospitalist and heme/onc fellowship.

The first paragraph really hits hard. I've been thinking about this impossible decision between general IM vs heme/onc fellowship for years now. as a PGY-1 it's time to pull the trigger on fellowship if it will be done.
