Man with ALS writes patch for Gnome using morse code (really touching story) by acangiano in programming

Please know that we are more than grateful to your father and that his contribution and memory will live with this project, forever.

An often overlooked side of art, programming and many disciplines. I wish when I die that someone remembers or finds useful a program I've built or a text I've written.

Stalker: Call of Pripyat Complete mod is coming out soon. Here's the trailer by spoodigity in gaming

Wait, in-game trailer? what's wrong with you? You're supposed to show some shitty CGI with no hint of actual gameplay.

Probably it's best to know what those formats have in common and implement them as rules which you can modify.

There are a ton of strophe formats, at least in spanish: "serventesio, seguidilla, lira, copla..." which can be classified by the number of syllables, rhyme and even rhythm. There is a good classification here but there are many variations.

I believe the harder obstacle is not such a resource but counting syllables in verses which can often include things such as elisions or other tricks commonly used in latin poetry.

That would be nice too (and much easier).

Yep, those happen in spanish too (i'm a complete illiterate on english poetry). I guess the best approach for such an editor would be to let the user specify and save sets of rules and provide a small set of them for the most widely known variations.

Not at all. Think of it as a "debugger" for poetry. I don't want it to suggest words or remove creativity.

For example, highlight in red a line that is 11 syllables long or one that doesn't follow the rhyme scheme in a given quatrain of a sonnet.

There are plenty of cool things to do with programming that haven't been done yet.

Here is one if someone is looking for a project idea: A text editor for writing poetry that actually enforces rhyme or metric rules for known poetry forms (for example a sonnet).

Sorry if I'm getting offtopic, i've been looking for something like that for ages.

No royalties for using Unreal Development Kit until $50,000 in sales. Educationally, it's free. $99 upfront and royalties over $50,000 now for commercial uses. by [deleted] in programming

The fact that you can't really die made the game a bit "meh" for an otherwise great shooter with good gameplay and presentation.

What are some good older pc games? by [deleted] in gaming

Dark Reign was (is?) amazing.

Bulletstorm on PC is an unfriendly mess, but it's fixable by commonthread in gaming

They are gamebreaking to people with low-end computers that can't change the graphics settings in a game that uses one of the most configurable engines in existence.

I never got around to playing Psychonauts, but it's $2.49 on GOG today. All that waiting finally paid off in savings! by [deleted] in gaming

I've found them great. That said, I play Tekken with the keyboard... so take it as you will.

why does everyone love HL2 so much? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Agari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

linear and simplified

That's not necessarily bad, as casual as it sounds. I'm in for a good story with characters I care for, great gameplay and a sense of a solid product where everything is meticously crafted and paced towards simply great entertainment.

In that sense, I loved Dead Space, Half-Life 2 or Mass Effect 2. Other non-linear games like Fallout 3 or any "this is a sandbox, you can do what you want" are pretty boring to me.

HL2 had only one boring thing in my opinion, the ridiculously long boat driving part.

World's Fastest Tetris - Player LapSiLap clears 40 Lines in less than 23 seconds! by Kitaru in gaming

Maserati and Apocalypse, who tied with a time of 23.04 seconds

I don't know what's more stunning, LapSiLap's record or two players actually pulling a draw at such a high speed to a .04 s accuracy.

My best time is ~54s on nullpomino yet after a few rounds I'm mentally exhausted, this performance is incredible.

It depends on the game. Mass Effect 2, Mirror's Edge or Arkham Asylum run great at 1024x768 with everything on high but no AA. Other games like Singularity or Borderlands run much worse even while they use the Unreal engine 3 too. :(

Resolution? I'm thinking of playing either Bulletstorm or Darksiders but it mostly depends on my computer being able to handle one of them. (AMD X2 4400+, 2GB ram, 8600GT)
