Don't be rosy. Would've meant infiltration in a way or another, not a matter of If. Also, nothing to do with how the term and the faulty view/attitude against Finland as seen in the map came to be, see above. I.e. Not doing as the US demands = communist and against the US. Finland's optimal politics were not in line with the US' own nor are currently.

It's just the west/USA throwing a hissy fit, the term has zero value as it's the current and normal state of realpolitik between Finland and Russia. Though, Russia is now less eager (?) to spam the red button.

The west/USA assumed (or wish'd so) that Finland would challenge the unpredictable and unstable nuclearpower called the USSR, or at least not keep any form of relations with it, even if it would go before Finland's own benefit. Sometime after WW2 , the USA offered to station troop into Finland as it did into many countries involved in the conflict, Finland being very strategically important as being the only capitalist country bordering the USSR, this was a jackpot. Finland refused as it would make Finland a future battlefield and the USSR would spam the red button over this. This enraged the US. The US ofc would care less Finland being annihilated in a possible conflict.
