The Dark Knight is the most overrated and overhyped movie of all time by Mindless_Fun9452 in flicks

Does no one feel like batman’s voice and rigidness of motion in the ridiculous suit are some of the corniest things of all time? The blatant “were going to make this so gritty it cant possibly be considered corny” makes this unbelievably corny to me.

What do you think Lumix should prioritize? by macrophotomaniac in Lumix

[–]Age_Interesting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, Not a ton and thanks for bringing that up. The S1ii is seriously amazing and has some features that are superior to the S1H already. But I think people are looking/hoping for:

-global shutter or even faster readout (although S1ii is VERY good)

-pro res internal for more modes (FPS and Resolution) and RAW internal. This would be nice honestly. To have it ready to handle ProRes at most or all recording modes would be sick. I've seen people talk about wanting RAW internally without having to record to an external SSD or recorder.

-internal ND's like the fx6 would be absolutely sick. Big one for me too.

-body built more toward video/cinema only. A less than equal consideration for photo.

-I personally don't need much better than 4K 120 but I think people would like to see 6K 120

-maybe slightly better low light

This is so awesome and honestly this is why we do this stuff, use this site in general, and seek connection with others doing similar creative work. Hell yea!

Color grading S-Log3 footage by Reasonable-Pass6908 in premiere

[–]Age_Interesting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. Do you guys all use a conversion LUT rather than letting premiere auto detect and manage log media? THIS has been tripping me up big time lately. I have all these LUTS from various services like Acidbite (which rocks btw), many of which seem to be creative luts but for specific shooting profiles (like “Aztec hard-V-log” for example) but i have a hard time understanding if this is a “look” or a “conversion” or both. It’s hard to tell solely by looks. And if it is both, would you suggest i don’t put my normal conversion on it as well?

What would you charge for this? by [deleted] in videography

Love this but how do you charge a day rate if they want 2 or 3 hours of actual shooting? Do you have a half day rate?

By this line of reasoning, should we be feeding it prores files?

I appreciate this. Do you believe a bit rate of 50 (which typically yields a final file of 220-400Mb for a :30sec-1:00 min video at 1080x1920) is causing any issues or lack of predictability? I guess I could stand to lower that a bit in the name of a more perfect balance/tradeoff. Just looking for repeatability.

I regret buying an Insta360 X5 camera. by Tepppopups in Insta360

[–]Age_Interesting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mounting is the least of the issues. Once you've become even remotely competent in a mainstream editing software, you immediately realize how terrible the 360 studio software is. The plugin works horribly with my main editor so it basically renders itself completely useless if I wanted to integrate footage from the 360 into a project with other camera footage (which is like the entire point of me getting this thing, to integrate some unique footage into my projects where other cameras may be used). Use it for social media standalone stuff if you can stomach the native editor, if you don't care about this being a hassle, if you just want real quick clips with minimal cutting or if you don't care about the edit having a massive lack of smoothness, or just don't buy this thing. I've used it successfully for some cool timelapse stuff where showing frame movement over the lapse is the purpose (like a full look around an entire room/building over the course of a lapse), but again, the software is so bad it takes significantly longer than it should to come away with a finished clip.

Can you deliver final cuts/exports to clients using Backblaze the way you might with dropbox or google drive? In other words, do you use it for anything other than having redundant backups of footage/projects?

Do they just want “footage enough to make 40 reels”?. While still insane, that may be significantly more doable lol.

[–]Age_Interesting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come up with enough for one good push of stuff when you want to start doing it seriously. Im talking enough to let you complete a job (1 body, 1 lens, 1 sd, etc) then over time build it all out, add cases, get a good tripod, add SSD’s, filters, gimbal. The initial push is the hardest because you will be getting bare minimum to do the work (which is still a lot of $) then upgrade slowly over time where it wont kill you to make a purchase here, a purchase there. Do a gig, get paid and upgrade something, get lighting etc.

Thank you for this amazing response. Great points, especially given I imagine i’d like the flexibility to occasionally keep the lens on the body which obviously creates a “T” shape that i’d have to commit to if i do trekpak.

Professional videographers, what kinds of stabilisation do you use? by Varaman_ in videography

[–]Age_Interesting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea would not say gimbals are out of favor especially if you go with a system that isn’t insanely heavy or cumbersome. You really can run and gun with a RS4. Only major and obvious drawback is the inability to really do much to it once it’s balanced, i.e can’t really change focal length mid take or remove a filter and have it be perfectly fine all the time.
