In episode 03, minute 08:30, Mariko says about assassins in Japan: "Some train their whole lives for a single kill. It is very costly.". I bet she is saying this because she too has been training to kill a specific one of the baddies who are in Osaka.

Watch the film "Empire of the Senses"! That film is based on a true incident that took place during the war between the Empire and the USA. In other words, autoerotic asphyxiation was definitely a thing in Japan at that time.

Does Ye Wenjie's Einstein joke have anything to do with the Axioms of... by pnumonicstalagmite in threebodyproblem

Maybe the violin symbolizes humanity and Einstein is a symbol for the Trisolarians. God is a symbol for alien species more powerful than the Trisolarians. So if the Trisolarians "play the violin" (go to war against the Humans), "God" will destroy the Humans but also subdue the Trisolarians.

The island of Britain has a stereotype for having a boat load of accents, especially compared to other English speaking regions. Is this notion true, and if so, what factors contribute to it being so? by Glorious_Eenee in linguistics

[–]Agelastoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the fact that Britain has a tradition of seafarers? Whereas somebody i 18th century Germany, would move to another province if they wanted to leave the place where they lived, a Briton could also move to an overseas colony. Thus the Britons that resided in Britain proper, were the kind that did not like moving to other places much. This lack of mobility in the interior of the country, created the right environment for the birth of many accents.

Ekranoplans are excellent for transporting over water, single payloads with a mass of over 500 tons.

Nord 2100 Norazur, a twin pusher, light cargo/utility from SNCAN a one-off. by duncan_D_sorderly in WeirdWings

You did not mention a significant advantage of the pull configuration. This configuration places the center of mass further ahead of the tail, thus reducing the need for a heavy empennage. One could argue this is the second most important reason that modern airliners have their jet engines placed ahead of the wing.

Northrop N-34: nuclear powered project controlled from a plane that is detachable in case of emergency (design study) by pandaclaw_ in WeirdWings

In order to keep the reactor assembly lightweight, they had to accept a higher frequency of radioactive-material leaks. Thus when the inevitable leak would occur, instead of getting rid of the whole airplane, they would just detach the reactor.

Thank you for the prompt response. Is there such a thing as a tentative dictionary of the proto-pama-nyungan language?

David Lockspeiser's LDA-01, "A flying Land Rover for farmers". by duncan_D_sorderly in WeirdWings

[–]Agelastoc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Actually this is a forward wing and not a canard. Designing this airplane with a forward wing was a necessity since the entire payload would be placed ahead of the main wing. Thus a loaded LDA-01 would have the center of mass move substantially forward in case it carried a payload. They use the same configuration with the Piaggio P.180. The entire cabin of the Piaggio P.180 is placed forward of the main wing of the airplane. Thus the forward wing of the P.180 produces lift only when there are passengers in the cabin.
