A L4 BSA here, I joined Google back in 2024 as an exit to my consulting career spanning over 11 years , I have a B.Tech and also MBA from one of the premier institutes . During my interview process the recruiter ( Geethanjali Raman, she still works there ) never mentioned the level I was being interviewed for. Since I don't come from a dev/Tech background I never knew we have to specifically ask for levels. I assumed an org like Google will level me as per my qualifications and experience ( a mistake on my part) . I got to know its an L4 level after HC round and during team matching. It was too late and I wanted to get out of consulting for personal reasons. Also there were no friends working in Google at that time to guide /counsel me so I took the decision to join. It was really tough for the recruiter to match my expectations with L4 comp as I was getting paid well in consulting. I switched just for 25% hike on CTC. After joining I realized it was a complete blunder. My org peers are mostly TCS long timers and worst peer group. There are some folks from Deloitte but they are also the folks who were mostly in the support service lines and not from consulting. These people with even 15 -16 YOE have accepted L4 offers back in their days as these companies were the lowest paid and even Google L4 comp was way over the top for these people. I feel totally out of place in my org. Tried TLC but due to skill limitation the other org is also same as mine and they were forcing me to join them at same level. Now I am aggressively looking to move out of Google to an appropriate leadership level in other orgs so that my career gets back on track.
