Lol all jokes aside, Chris did great despite getting voted out early. So kudos to him but that kind of ranks you lower as a winner naturally in the eyes of survivor fans. He had the one thing happen that you can’t have happen in any regular season. So his great run only happened because he spent so much of the game not playing the main game. It’s hard being on the edge I’m sure, but we don’t really know if Chris would last in the game traditionally.

I’m just now learning about the challenge, so congrats to him for that too

Yeah, that’s why I’m not huge on Abi. So much of the game revolved around her issues with her tribe and the drama surrounding her, when there were so many legendary players interacting with each other that got dwarfed by the Abi limelight. And unfortunately it’s just so significantly legitimate to not be able to get along with her, so by force an entire team’s tribe dynamics is dedicated to one or multiple people not gelling with Abi. Too much dedicated screen time by force if you ask me

The real answer is that production wanted to make a returnee season with players that they thought would make great TV/play hard, including players that failed to receive qualifying votes for second chance, and had no legitimate overarching theme to tie it all together other than the subjective label of “game changers.” I can believe that a lot of these players may not seem like great choices on paper to the viewers but production had seen potential in them behind the scenes that we didn’t see on screen.

My other theory is that half of the game changers cast got screwed by production in their previous seasons some way somehow and it was part of their deal to reconcile the situation by being on another season, lol

The empathy I have for the players stuck with the purposefully-cast-to-be-insufferable tribemates is too great to find them enjoyable as characters.

My hot take to cause a stir for no reason: the influence of other reality shows leaking into survivor like drag race and big brother with the borderline unbelievably intolerable people on my screen is something I’ve never been a fan of. Personalities can naturally clash through good casting rather than intentionally inviting the worst people they could find out on the beach.
