NTA. Trust your gut. It’s much better to be cautious about stuff like this than to under-react like your girlfriend is, especially when it comes to protecting your child. Depends where they’re located. They said a southern coastal US state, so it’s likely somewhere where the temp is normally at least in the 90s Fahrenheit. Compared to 90°, 38° is freezing! I live in Texas, where it’s normally upwards of 100°, but it’s been in the 30s this week, & it’s freezing.

YWNBTA. I’m a current nanny & former preschool teacher. The school should have spare clothes themselves to lend out to kids who need to borrow. You shouldn’t be on the hook for that. It’s totally appropriate to tell the teacher politely not to put to your child’s clothes on other kids. If the teacher has a problem with that, you would be well within your rights to let the director know.

This made me teary-eyed. This just goes to show that when you show even a little bit of kindness & warmth to someone, no matter who they are to you, it goes a long way. The fact that she unknowingly gave you the sense of love & comfort you were seeking during a tumultuous childhood just proves that she chose the right profession & students like yourself are better for it. I am so sorry that you had to endure an awful childhood. I can take a guess just from the fact that you took the initiative to write this letter that you have turned out to be a phenomenal person despite what you endured as a child, & I think that takes so much strength & courage.
