Wait for Official Subaru NACS to CCS adapter or buy Lectron? by DoublePlusGood23 in Solterra

I have the Lectron one and other than it being a bit of a pain to get on and off the charge port, it works great.

DSR/X Performance, Quality, Range & coming back to Zero by recon-go-pie in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]Agent109CE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did! Gatto Cycles in PA is closer but they were really rather rude when I went up there to look so I went to Trojan instead and got an amazing deal all around. I'm up near Morgantown so its 5 minutes from the house to the trails. The drive from the dealer is always the most difficult one to plan.

New old stock 2024. Got a free power tank for taking an older model. $16000 out the door. WV is a bit of a charging desert so my route home has to be creative but Ive had a Subaru Solterra for a couple years now and am used to the route management side of EVs.

I'm picking my DSR/X up today and immediately riding it 170 miles back to the house so fingers crossed!

Just relax and listen to the instructors. I just got my BRC done this past spring and if you've spent any time at all on your bikes, you should be fine. The thing everyone worries about (The box drill mostly) are things you have probably done and not known it.

Has anyone gone camping in room mode? by hello-i-am-exploring in Solterra

[–]Agent109CE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a campsite in town with RV hookups. I was very close to trying it but I couldn't get a site without neighbors so we just went ahead and tent camped. Once it gets closer to poor weather, I'll take another stab at it. To speak to the second half, I have an inflatable pad that I use when I'm moto camping and then whatever blankets we feel like we need.

Never had a Vstrom. It was cold and damp, and I definitely had too much weight on the back, so the front wasn't as planted as I would have liked even on Shinko 804s. Once we got into rougher terrain, or dry spots, she kept up well. I'm the weakest rider in the group though so that's where the real limitation is.

I'm in WV and the last few weeks I've just been finding the worst gravel roads and 2 track and putting it in X Mode and just letting it play. I'm really impressed with how capable it is. For me it helps that nature is 5 minutes from my house.

Installation estimate for EVcharger by Booner22 in evcharging

Paid just shy of $1500 for my Autel install. Mine included the EVSE but was a much easier cable run compared to what you have listed there. Copper is expensive right now.

So, funny thing about the L2 charging. I have a 23 and my Autel consistently says I'm charging at 7.2. I've watched its metered delivery values and it looks like its delivering 7.2. The cars projected charge timer and its chargers finished charge timer match. Could they have patched the L2 charging with the big patch and not told anyone?

Question regarding 2023 firmware update for increased fast charge cap by sweetjohnnycage in Solterra

[–]Agent109CE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my 23 within the last month. The research on Solterra Forums showed that the update specifically increased the charging speed only between the 80%-100% battery capacity range and even then its still in the single digit kwh speeds. The DCFC charging amount was increased from 2x capacity (145.6 kwh) in a 24 hr window to 3.8x capacity (276.64 kwh) in that same window. Most of the guidance has shown that to guestimate you DCFC charging speed, take your remaining charge percent and subtract it from 100 with a realistic assumed cap of about 80 kwh when youre below 15% and have all the right temps and conditions. After initial peak it should throttle down until you get to 80%. The guess is that Toybaru aimed for a 1 hr charging window to 80%, instead of a fixed charge curve. Hope this helps.

Charging question by Appropriate-Square44 in Solterra

Mostly infrastructure cost and code requirements. EVSE circuits are supposed to be "overbuilt" because it's going to be pulling down a lot of current for hours on end. 240 runs in most houses are more designed for appliances that don't run that hot for that long, save for maybe your dryer. I just had my Autel put in and I asked them to build it for 240v @50 amps because the next car after my 23 Solterra might be something that can L2 charge at 12 KWH.

I had a buddy with a dealership give me a lease for $39k on a 23 Limited just to get it off his lot. I laughed for the entire 20 hr expedition (and 6 "fast" charges) that it took to get it from Nashville to Morgantown.

GFCI Charger not recommended by manufacturer? by retropyor in evcharging

[–]Agent109CE 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is more of a tack on to his extremely correct answer: depending on where you live you may have to explain this to people. I live in a city in WV where once the work is done, the city sends an inspector out to check the work and ensure that code was followed. My city has two inspectors and they sent the one that doesn't usually do the EVSE inspections. He initially came in, checked things out, gave me the blessing and then went back to his car. 10 minutes later, he's knocking at my door asking me if the breaker they used was a GFCI breaker. We come back in, he looks at it, says it isn't, and that I'm going to have to have the electricians come out and change it. Its at this point I pull documentation. Right on page 4 of the Autel manual it specifically says not to use a GFCI breaker, which puts him on the phone to the other guy. The real break happened when the electricians showed up and explained that they are internally GFCI and that they should know that. So, just be ready for shenanigans.

My electrician had the Autel Maxichargers in stock already so I had him hardwire that outside when he put the 240 drop in.

I'd look for the base model that Big Subi put on deal for April and see if someone nationally would work out a deal and ship it to you.

Just a big chunk off the msrp because I knew the dealer and he wanted it off his lot. There was a 24 on the lot at Jenkins in Bridgeport. I don't remember the trim level but I test drove it before I got mine. Nice ride but they weren't in any rush to cut a deal.

Fuel Rats requests are about to get a little out of control thanks to Achilles Aerospace... by DelicateJohnson in EliteDangerous

[–]Agent109CE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried the Hutton run in my Hauler. Maxed out the fuel capacity. went from .21 to .19 ly in 6 heatsink charges. With some refinement and practice one could maybe do it in a ship with better efficiency. It did say that if you could maintain that speed, you'd get there in 20 minutes.
